Bloodborne |OT2| Praise The Moon

I am new to the Souls games and as much as I love Bloodborne I also hate it. I have played at least 3-4 hours and am still stuck in the first area of the game. I will play for about 15 minutes make a mistake and get sent back to the same damn checkpoint WTF. I have not encountered the first boss yet and I must really suck at this game. I never make it very far and keep getting placed back at the first checkpoint, what am I doing wrong? I would love to progress but can't seem to get out of this area. Any tips or advice? Because at this point I am ready to get rid of this game.

Also read this article and it pretty much sums up about how I feel not quite there yet but pretty damn close.

You need to explore to unlock shortcuts back to that checkpoint so you have shorter to go to progress, eventually you will get a new checkpoint.

Dodge and wait for safe attavk opportunites and run away if you have to. Luring enemies to pick them off is good too.

You're not missing anything, that's the only checkpoint (besides the one at the very start) until you beat your first boss. The key is to open shortcuts. Have you made it to the bridge with the big dogs? If so you're close to reaching a shortcut.

This the one where there all in cages? If yes I am past there and just entered a building with guy in chair?

It's not a glitch. Enemies sometimes have your blood so you need to kill them near where you died.

Edit: I quoted wrong, this is in response to lost souls.
Do you honestly think that I wasn't aware of this mechanic? What me (and many other people in this thread) experienced was a glitch. I fell down a big tower, the game didn't know where to put my blood stain so it got removed from the game. I killed every single enemy in that entire zone.

Was 1 hit from losing 450,000 echoes

Don't get greedy lol.

Typical souls moment when you die from the easiest enemy or fall from somewhere while going back to retrieve a bloodstain.

Still know how i went with big balls through NG+ in Dark Souls with everything maxed only to get gangbanged by the torch hollow guys in undead parish (way to first bell). Same as i tried to retrieve the stain there... lost alot of souls that day...

wait are your hands free with the lantern?

Yes but it has probably only 1/3 or 1/4 of the torch shining power. Still better than nothing.

Okay, so I used the brooch and it gave me a red blood gem which is now in my inventory. How do I use the gem? Or do I gain the bonuses just by having it in my inventory?

any tips on how to play coop with a friend? We have different region of the game (but same id region), he's level 48 and my level is 40, we set passwords the same and still every time we try we cannot find each other.
It seems multiplayer hasn't been working for many of us (here at least) in the last day or so.

anyone else doing a noble scion/blood tinge build? started my new run and wow, bullets actually make a dent in enemies.

I could see this working OK (I can do pretty decent damage with throwing knives as a skill build), but there aren't that many bullets in the game. I guess you could just use the d-pad up thing that gives you 5 fake bullets and then blood vial every once in a while.

I'm definitely going to try either a blood tinge or arcane build after I get through the game with my existing dude.

I wonder if lag could be the issue. Were you playing

I was indeed online. Really strange glitch. But I was convinced that I hadn't lost them forever so I kept searching as far back as possible and I'm glad I did in the end.

Also, I've discovered a few more locations, and lit lamps at said locations but can't seem to warp to them from Hunter's Dream. is this normal?

EDIT: Nm, just realised the other headstones at Hunter's Dream offer different locations. Well, damn.

If you ignore the hard enemies there's a few enemies that are easy to kill there and give you a ton of souls.
There's also quite a few of those spiders that drop twin blood shards near those easy to kill enemies, and the giant pigs are just backstab magnets that give you thousands of souls. Ignore the santas though, they'll kick your ass
But to answer your question, yes you're not supposed to be finishing that area yet. The next area
is accessed via the chapel and is easiest to access if you buy that 10,000 soul emblem from the shop.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Yeah, it seems like these big guys are one/two shotting me, so I'm going to get out of there for the time being.

megaton. well, miniton since its weaker than the torch. but still, its only 2k souls

Going to roll blood tinge next for Chikage (and to see if guns are viable). Currently doing arc/str using kirk and tonitrus.

WAIT A MINUTE.

Are you supposed to fight
Cleric Beast
before
Father Gascoigne
? Because I stumbled upon the latter before meeting with the former and he fucked me up real good and when I turned to Youtube to see how others deal with him the guy whose video I watched say things that suggest he is actually the 2nd boss and not the 1st one.

Aw I just went up to Gerhman (sp?) in the dream and
he was calling out to Laurence and saying he was too old for this :((((((
Can't wait for some lore videos from the usual guys.

You can get like 10-14 vials per run if do the Father shortcut run.

It takes like 10mins to buy 99 at mid-game.
And there is a better place than Father route early game.
Buy the 10k key for the Grand Cathedral, warp to the Ward, and go farm those 3 giants+2 nearby brick guys.
And those giants give more echos=more vials...or level up.
That would net you almost 16-20 vials without doing a giant loop.

I was just driving around and went in Best Buy. I'm now home with a ps4 and Bloodborne...

wife: Honey did you bring the milk i asked you to get?
you: well ...

I met Father G first (because these two wolfes who lead to cleric beast said "Nope" to me when i asked them to get out the way.) and there is no real first or second. Most ppl face cleric beast first because the way to him easier to find.

Okay, I think I need a little push in the right direction. I just beat a boss (
Vicar Amelia
) and now something is different (
It's night time now!
). I'm pretty sure there are only three ways for me to go but they are all locked off in some way.

1.
The Healing Church Workshop tower has a locked door all the way up the top that I can't get in to. There's also a door that seems impossible to get to in the bottom part of the tower where you have to drop onto planks to descend.

2.
Off of the Cathedral again, out the westward door (from the lantern starting position) and up the stairs to the right, then immediately through the gate to the left. All the way to the right of this area is a staircase down which leads to a chest with a locked door next to it.

3.
Finally, the courtyard right outside the starting area has a gate that is locked by a contraption that I can't figure out how to get to at all.

If any of these are on the right track let me know, otherwise if I could just get a hint at where to go next that would be great. I've also beaten the following bosses:
Cleric Beast,
Father Gascoigne,
Blood-starved Beast,
The Witches of Hemwick,
and finally
Vicar Amelia.

Thanks!

Me too. I feel like they set up a certain early area just for the purpose of farming health packs, you can easily get 2 + 2, and buy 2 more with your souls = 6 per run. If you do it perfectly, anyway. You can even get your bullets back nearby.

Basically, I just did this run 6 times last night for some breathing room.
It really sucks.

The first area is just for healthpack grinding?
Why?

where? that just happened to me too, maybe the online is screwing up the game (couldn't find a single soul and couple hours earlier was busy as hell).

Yes. Next time continue along the bridge before heading into the sewers.

I never even found CB on my own. Seems like there no reason you HAVE to go that way?

(Found him will watching ENB's videos).

You're not supposed to, the Cleric Beast is completely optional. Gascoigne is the "real" first boss because you have to beat him to continue

Woah easy there, was just trying to help. No need to bite my head off >_>

not me. looking through this thread it seems i missed out on a lot of stuff my first time through.

Yeah, I've missed a good bit, too. I'm trying to explore as much as I can before I move on any further.

Wait, was that it?

Upper Cathedral Ward

The end reward was a gesture, right?

That appears to be true, btw. welcome to the club. :)

I met him while i was looking for the first boss, after horribly losing my way in that labyrinth named Yharnam ... still haven't found the first boss, maybe today!

so what's the best way to farm blood vials?

these pvp and co-op sessions are draining me.

I've found the loop starting from cathedral ward going up to cathedral and down where the
giant with ball chain whip
is to be fruitful. Around 10+ each go. Can take the giants down in 3 hits. Plus end up buying vials with echoes farmed.

Yesterday i was at the
forbidden forest
. I was tired of running all the way to this place since i hadn't found a shortcut yet. So i decided to just run ignoring enemies. I got lost. Got lost HARD. It felt like walking through a nightmare. The enemies get really
weird.

Anyway, i had some really nasty framedrops while traversing fog gates in the
fordidden forest
and
byrgenwerth
. Slide show style.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?

I could have sworn I investigated areas and such.... Huhhhh well this is mightily surprising....
