Would someone mind telling me where the shortcut from BSB to the top of old Yarnham is? I somehow managed to kill it first go
"dem beast blood pills"
but can't find the short cut :(

In the building that the werewolf jumps out from breaking the door

Forbidden Woods just entered
how far in is the lamp in here? I'd like to get it settled before I venture in, as I've heard this place is a fucking maze.

I dropped down under the church workshop.

killed the fire casting demon.

made my way through the streets. Ended up in a dead end. Found
tentacle head goblin
killed it, now what ? Dead end ? Need to take elevator to get out ? But there is no way to come back here without playing the dangerous drop game in the tower ?

Cathedral Ward: how did you guys handle the
two hunters
to the right of A
melia's
door?

I was able to kite one away from the other and that really helped- took down the shield one first and the more aggressive one second. I was far too low a level to be battling them lol

I might be over leveling cause I just killed VA on my first go and all I was doing was
staying close and dodging to the right, never to the left

edit: cleared up my wording

Sadly it is the only way down.

That's a dead end. The elevator will get you back to the catedral ward.

When you're on the lowest part of Old Yharnam before the boss, a wolf beast will break through a door to surprise you. Go in that building and up the spiral stairs.

Quick question. Do you need to return to the hunters Dream after opening shortcut gates for them to stay open? Like if I open one then continue on my journey and die, will it still be open?

Piece of shit broken invading. What's the point of the
PvP covenant
if invading is fundementally flawed? So pissed. Cracks starting to show in the game.

Sometimes the game is totally unfair just like Demons Souls was. I am still on the first level and some pretty dumb stuff already happened.

The fact that an enemy can hit me through a fence and I can't hit them is bullshit. The fact that I scoped out the entire area and after I killed the mob an ogre came out and demolished me with no way to get out was bullshit.

Sometimes the game just makes itself harder by making it unfair, that's my only issue with Souls games. No matter how careful you are, no matter how much you play the game ready to get punished for your own mistakes, when there's something that is just completely out of your hands you just end up getting fucked over and have to start from the beginning.

Tbh you might not pay enough attention. I don't remember being killed out of nowhere/without any escape possible a single time since I got the game.

Well I think I'm stuck.

I have two options atm:

  • Give guy a password (which I don't have)
  • Fight the boss in Hypogean Gaol.
I think I can buy a key to bypass the password guy. but I don't want to do it the cheesy way.

As far as the boss, idk... that seems like the wrong place to be. Boss seems much higher than my level. I cleared the area up to the boss, but it was kinda tough, and I barely scratch the boss with my heavy attack. Idk... just feel like I'm supposed to come back there later.

Kinda stuck on what to do atm. There's a
hunter guy
I could fight, near a certain nonfunctional
lamppost
, but he kicks my ass every time. Like, badly. He also killed
bird lady
. :(

God I don't even know where I am now! I found a shortcut but I dropped down to find some
hounds in cages
so I ran as quick as I could and now I'm in some house. Why aren't there more lamps! I'm bricking myself, I keep getting ambushed D:

If you have the whip you can hit through fences/gates.

It's pretty funny I just killed Father Casgione but from watching streams I thought Cleric Beast was the first boss. I kept thinking, when do I fight the Cleric Beast? Then next thing I know it's a really pissed off dude with a blunderbuss and hunter axe (I died once to him because I rolled and got stuck on some tombstones. Pistol made it simple to parry his attacks and I finished him with molotovs after I used my last bullet). I heard that there is an item to beat him. I obviously don't need it now but where was it? I feel like I need to backtrack because I think I skipped a bunch of stuff haha.

Edit: to some post in this thread about backstabbing, it actually is still in this game, but you have to land the charged R2 attack on their back. It's much harder to do and usually only happens when they are unaware.

Same thing is happening in my game right now. . I thought I could
save them
.

And
apparently there is a guy you can get to come to the ward, but he didn't believe in me

Spoilers obviously.
If you get the guy in the forbidden forest to go to the chapel... suprise he kills two other people. You probably should of have guessed this as he's feeding on dead people when you find him (I killed his ass because I didn't want to send him to either place, but my friend sent him to the chapel).
Also when the
whore dissapears
go down the ladder where you came up from Gascoigne.
she should be there, if she isn't, go back to the lantern, go to the dream, come back and go down again. I'll let you choose what to do

Just spent the last two hours in literally the very first area. It was frustrating at first, but once I got the hang of it it became fun. Tomorrow looking forward to getting a little further past the bonfire.

Did you fight
Vicar Amelia
yet?

Yeah those are some very strange absences. Having to wait through the loading screens between teleporting to the hub and the next area i want to go through is a bit annoying. On the other hand, I do like some of the major gameplay design choices in comparison to Dark Souls that really changes how the game plays.

The lack of turtling behind greatshields (the wooden shield isnt much help), the lack of backstabbing, the faster enemies, the increased reliance on movement, countering, dodging, etc. It really makes the game far more intense and challenging.

I definitely understand why a great deal of people see this game as more difficult than the previous games, especially newcomers.

That are clear design choices with a purpose, which i have no problems with . This game is not supposed to be Dark Souls III or Demon's Souls II.
But something like stats comparison should be a no brainer.

Not really. Trying to get rid of the adds can easily get you killed, and besides they have such a slow wind up time that you can ignore them with hit and run.

How? I never once got killed while getting rid of them... They are super easy to avoid. Ignoring them on the other hand can lead to nasty surprises (for starter they can get in your way when you avoid an AoE) and is reliant on luck (if the boss teleports right next to its previous position you'll have to deal with two lots of adds at once).

are there any illusionary walls in the main game? press X or swing variety?
read the eurogamer review
and i guess they are in some of the chalice dungeons?

Can anyone help me figure out where to go after
Hemwick?
I beat the boss and can't find where to go next, I can't get through the door on the other side of the
Grand Cathedral,
and I can't find any newly opened paths.

So where do you need to go to open the gate at the beginning of
Forbidden Woods
?

I beat the boss and feel like I've thoroughly gone around the area, but can't figure out where that comes out at. Or is that not accessible until later on?

Anyone?

Would yo guys recommend level Arcane a bit?
Sitting at lvl 7 right now, using the Saw and Ludwig.

Arcane is actually a pretty good all around stat. Many weapons including the cane whip have decent arcane scaling and you get gems that allow you to change physical to elemental damage which scales from arcane.

Not to mention sweet item discovery. If I do another fresh playthrough I'll go arcane. still haven't found anything that let's you respec so...

50 hours in & I only beat six bosses & the first chalice dungeon, this game is beautiful, I can't stop exploring, so far I've re-visited all the areas after every boss, it was pretty cool, I was also helping out other players, but I think I'm lagging behind everyone else, should I accelerate my playthrough?

I'm having fun either way but I want the scythe sooooooo baaaaad, all the dex weapons suck in this game, everything about the twin blade is awesome except for damage & range, it's awesome to use but so useless functionally.

I guess From's idea is that skill gets possibly the best weapon in the game
the scythe
, but can only be accessed in NG+, while strength gets the early cool weapons, but nothing extra special for NG+ (I think?).

I was avoiding spoilers like a plague, but unfortunately I was possibly spoiled on twitter regarding arcane
that there are pseudo-spells that scale with arcane
, is it true?
