Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin announced for PS4/XBO/PC - April 2015

Is the PC version not out anywhere? I can't believe we've still seen nothing of it. Though I'm sure it's safe to assume it just looks like the PS4 version.

Yeah. My expectations are pretty much zero when it comes to graphical updates. I think the new requirements have more to do with more enemies and maybe more complex AI routines.

I really hate the release date for this game. I don't understand it. I feel Bloodborne would cannibalize some of its sales.

I skipped DS2 because I was hoping a remaster would find its way to PS4; I just didn't think it would happen two weeks after Bloodborne. I'm real deep into BB now, and I'll be playing it for months, so I don't know when I'll be getting this remaster. I'll get it eventually, but damn, shitty date.

Dynamic contrast looks a bit odd, before they enter the tunnel to FotFG it's all bright and then it goes dark when they enter :lol

I think it's great. Gives it time to go on sale. :)

That's their solution to the lighting downgrade? Ugh, c'mon From.

This game will never be on a technical level what it should or could have been.

Guys, I'm intrigued by this remaster as I'm currently enjoying BB a lot. What I like about BB is that the customization of my character is easy to do and not very complicated. Is DS2 the same? I don't like over-complicated customization in RPGs.

don't wanna watch cuz i wanna be surprised. but is that a good or bad LOL for loading? its not bloodborne bad is it? :\

I was wondering the same thing. I mean, on PC (an SSD though), load times were like 3 seconds. So I can't imagine that it's near BB levels, even on a normal mechanical drive.

It's not more complicated - there's just a lot more variety. If you get paralyzed by indecision, then that might be an issue. However, I don't think it will actually be a negative. I preferred the more extensive loot that DS2 offered over BB's meager scraps at least.

Currently on Bloodborne and will be hard to play it since I ended the game on 360 but never played the DLC , so is worth to get this remaster just for the DLC?

Holy heck yes, yes and YES.

The DLC is some of the best stuff in the game. Best bosses, best areas. Hell, I'd even rate the areas as some of the best in any souls game. The way you get to actually play around with level geometry is really cool and the design is far more intricate than prior DkS2 areas. It's a lot more similar to BB in that respect with ingenious short cuts. No duds at all here. Seriously, I'd rate the DLC above Artorias. Sure, no boss fight is as good as Artorias but it also doesn't have a single bland area (and the woods in the DkS1 DLC were only really cool from a lore perspective).

Absolutely worth it I'd say. Only issue is that you need to defeat certain bosses in the base game in order to access them. That necessitates a few hours of replaying for some. Not much if you've done it before but enough to be slightly annoying.

What's wrong with the load times? Are they awful again?

The loadtimes are about 2 seconds long, like the old PC version.

They'd be insane to just throw the engine away, I'm certain they'll implement it for Dark Souls 3. But yeah it's kinda silly, but I remembered that Dark Souls 1 did exactly the same thing.

How does DS2 DLC work? Do I need to finish the main game first?

Nah, you can access it as soon as you find it, which you will do by just playing the game normally.

Nope. All entered from areas throughout the game. Easy to find. This may have changed the conditions, though.

I'm wondering if they took the oppurtunity to implement them into the actual flow of the game. Would be kinda cool if that were the case

Okay the game appears on my Steam account when I click on "account details" but it does not appear in my regular Steam list.

I'll try contacting the Steam support.

Not at all. Each new area (and there are 3) is boss specific. You can access the first one after beating The Rotten. After killing each of the primordial souls (or whatever the special bosses are called), there was always a bonfire in the middle of an empty room. Now, that room usually has a door for the DLC.

The next one is found after beating the boss in the fire castle. Can't rememeber the third one. The point is though, you can access the DLC as you play the game for the first time, you don't need to have finished the game first.

Thanks guys. And since it releases tomorrow in Europe, maybe we'll get a DF report on it before it goes on sale in the US.

Does it specifically say when you enter a DLC area? I'd rather play the DLC after beating the main game and not be playing it while im on the main quest.

So guys, I haven't been really following this remaster, but does it have all the bells and whistles that were promised before the original game was released?

Talking about the lighting and all the other neat graphical effects that eventually didn't make it into the game.

Sorry if it was asked, but what does the new balancing tweaks entail?

"- Enemy and game design adjustments (Only included in next-gen versions of SoFS)
- Various balancing tweaks (Included in all versions of SoFS, will be added in the 1.10 Patch for existing users)"

Nope. Legit copy bought at the store.
My retail copy does not appear in my Steam list and I have no idea what to do except waiting until 2025 to receive an answer from the support team.

Online is blocked until April 1st (US) and April 2nd (EU) iirc. Maybe they've intentionally blocked it in steam as well? But I seem to recall some streams already being up of people playing so I'm not really sure.

EDIT: no leaked copies it seems, except for this german one playing on PS4 and they seem legit.

I guess it's possible but usually in those cases the game sits in my Steam library and the content is locked.

No.

Only thing that'll make me purchase the game on PS4 is a new set of trophies, and thus platinum.
If it uses the same one as the PS3 version, I'll go with X1.

Plus PC no matter what, of course.

Oh, then it's probably not gonna be visible in your library until it's up on the Steam storefront, I wouldn't be too worried if I were you, especially since it's a retail copy, worst case scenario you'll have to email shots of the box to someone or something, box+key+disc
