What is the consensus among Souls veterans regarding the difficulty of this game compared to the souls games?

I've always considered myself sucky at these games and I just finished Bloodborne in 20 hours (did pretty much all the side stuff, although I'm assuming there is some more stuff I missed, and I got the
"true ending"
) and I found the game pretty easy with the exception of the second last boss.

I'm thinking I should go back to the souls games now (probably wait for the new version of DS2).

The Souls games you play AFTER your first are always going to be easier. By that time, you know what to expect, you know you have to be careful and have patience, stamina management etc etc.

Demon Souls was my first and hardest as I didn't know what to expect and how to approach the game & enemies. Now I do, so yeah, the rest are always going to be easier.

Yeah it's a very annoying system and it's always been weak in From's games, but this is the worst implementation yet.

Try Reddit's guide if you haven't read it just to see if that helps.

We tried this to for about 40 minutes. We were able to get two people into a game (as we normally can) after about a 6-7 minute wait. Waited another half hour and the other person couldn't find us.

I have noticed that 90% of the time I ring the bell and wait near the lamp, I find players, in private or public sessions, quite fast. If I don't wait at the lamp, I have no luck at all either.

We do this too. It works with two people, over stupidly long waiting times, but we can't find the third.

The crappy thing is that all three of us can find people in less than a minute if we just search for strangers. It's just the password part that is broken for us.

Defiled Chalice beat! Goddamn that was nasty! I don't know if I'll ever run the Root variant of that bloody place.

Now I need some Red Jelly...

Quoting myself again because I really don't want to miss any huge missable items/quests/areas/lore etc on this first playthrough.

Have you
sent the prostitute to the Cathedral Ward? If not do that. Nightmare Frontier really isn't that hard as long as you don't try and fight in the poison. I suggest you give it another go because the end is worth the trouble.

Is there a capeless version of the crow set? It's already super cool, but it'd go better with my top hat without the cape. >.>

Also, random thought:
Has anyone tried using Make Contact on other stuff in the game? Master Willem maybe? I can't because I killed him, but might be worth a try.

There are a lot of them. And I can't even access the defiled one because I need materials. :|

I'm not a huge fan of them either.

Stats depend on weapon. Some are better with strength or skill, and it seems like you're using axe which is strength so I'd go for that.

Well, have upgraded my Vit to 30, and Str to 20 then. Hopefully I won't regret! =p

Yeah, they're shit. I get copies of the same room in a single dungeon constantly. I think there's only like 20ish rooms you can spawn.

There's this specific large square castle room I can't stand. Has an upstairs reached by an elevator and a middle raised platform, it's sooo overly large and tedious as hell to get around. I keep getting it, lol.

Not sure who
the prostitute is. Was she the woman in the lower area of the Cathedral Ward? I told a lady down there to go to Iosefka's Clinic which I have since assumed to be a mistake as everyone I sent there is, I'm pretty sure, dead. And I planned to play Nightmare Frontier, I just thought it was a "later" area, is it recommended to do now or just whenever?

The password co-op system is a freaking mess. If I'm lucky enough to even have it work we have to sit through search times of well over five minutes. We just spent over an hour attempting to get a three person team together with no luck.

I liked Souls already, and have been generally enjoying Bloodborne solo, but there's no denying that the password/private co-op was the headlining reason why my friends and I bought the game together. It's infuriating that this convoluted password/bell system has to not only replace a far more standard invite/host option, but that it doesn't work for us. Anybody with luck getting this together have any tips to make this actually work?

No kidding bud, I'm was in the same boat. My one buddy gave up and just stopped playing BB and my other buddy is picking up BB today so hopefully, we don't have the same issues.

Managed to kill BsB at last, on my third attempt.

Also a little bit of a story: I Killed VA as well, and jumped to Hunter's Dreams and returned to the Cathedral Ward.

Here's the thing: the fact that everything suddenly changed made me pause. Like, usually there's a couple of dudes patrolling on the area outside the left door, and now all of a sudden they're gone and that alone was enough to make me pause and feel very atmosphere. And then I looked on the sky above... man........

I explored the Healing Church Workshop, found myself a Radiant Sword Badge or whatever... almost got killed by that blasted Wheelchair guys using Flamethrower (I honestly didn't expect that combination), found a hidden path towards the Old Abandoned Workshop, snagged that lovely Doll costumes...

...lit the lamp, and continued on.... fast forward, I got killed by a large dude carrying a bag and all of a sudden I was transported to the Hidden Village................................... filled with those large bag dudes everywhere.... they're so ridiculously strong and capable of two-shotting me in good hits....... FML. Managed to lit the lamp there though, and as I wandered around (managed to kill a few of the inhabitants in-between) all of a sudden I stumbled upon the DP Beast................. FML, I resigned myself at my fate and didn't even try to fight back, LOL.

Fuck that Hidden Village, I teleported myself back to the Grand Cathedral and in the end found myself traveling to Forbidden Forest afterwards. Such a strong Resident Evil 4 vibe... all good, all good though, especially with my newly bought and reinforced Ludwig's Holy Blade (holy shit this weapon is incredible.) I admit I panicked a bit after that mandatory fall, and when I managed to accumulate Echoes to the tune of about 40.000 wandering around without a lamp on sight... my heart beat faster and I panicked somewhat.

IIRC I also found a hidden path that led towards what seemingly a shallow lake..... filled by numerous giant humanoid things wandering around, the type that I have never seen before. I NOPE'D so hard and turned back the way I came, lol.

Ludwig's Holy Blade did a wonderful job accompanying me throughout my sojourn on the village part of the Forbidden Forest... and then suddenly I got one-shotted by a goddamn cannon. Thankfully managed to get back the echoes, but I got killed again by the same thing... decided to just carefully ran from house to house on the next run, and killed the cannon guy with extreme prejudice afterwards (with my echoes thankfully returned to me.)

Continuing on..... and all of a sudden, now there's an enemy with snakes bursting out from his head....................................... urghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Managed to kill two of them with quite a bit of heart-pound (THANK YOU LUDWIG'S HOLY BLADE!) and found the shortcut...... goddamn what a relief.

Decided I had enough for the night and wanted to just explore a bit forward with no serious attempt at actually progressing... I wandered upon this maze-like areas filled with goddamn snakes, giant snakes, giant pig, and those head bursting whackos. To my surprise though I did well; I even managed to get around 25.000-ish echoes without dying... as I tried to go back however, the maze-like structure of the area was successful at messing me up... I just wandered around aimlessly... although in the end thanks to the lucky stars of the cosmos I somehow managed to stumbled myself back at the beginning path........ My God that area was extremely annoying.

And THEN I found that I should have gone to that area filled with Witches first to get that Rune Equipping tool... yeah, I'll do it tonight.

Just a bit of a Bloodborne tale from Laughing Banana, hahaha.

Too fucking late. Wow, thanks, guy. Now I know who the last boss is.

I already have my suspicion with all of that blood stain everywhere in the Hunter's Dream
. But I spoiled myself after stupidly open a spoiler with a clear end game sppiler warning

Servers have to be busted today, right? I've gotten like one invasion per 45 minutes in areas where I could invade constantly yesterday, and those I invaded reported not being able to invade/co-op either. It's not the rest mode bug or DNS.

Has anyone been able to connect to others often today?

She's in a dead end path on the way to Vicar Amelia. If you don't save her before fighting Rom you miss out on a certain item.

Nightmare Frontier can be done whenever, but the boss is awesome so I want you to fight it now.

You can actually do that yourself. I did it with the katana as I didn't realize it would actually kill me and I was checking out the moveset, lol.

So I just beat
the Witches
and am unsure of where to go next. I've run around all the areas I remember not exploring and can't seem to catch a break. If anyone can point me in the right direction without spoiling too much I'd really appreciate it. :-)

halp

It's just a huge shame. After sinking a bunch of money into starting my own business I haven't been able to buy games very often, especially at launch price. Between co-op and Chalice Dungeons we were under the impression this was something we could enjoy together for a long time and thus far that is not the case.

I see thank you for the help. I'll give it a shot when I get home in a little bit. I explored a bit when I first found it but got intimidated and left. Level 45 right now.

I spawned in Central Yharnam to farm some vials and apparently
the guy coughing in that room turned into a werewolf and I had to kill him.

Got the Platinum, was a rough ride, but I loved it.

Hardest trophy was definitely the
Chalice
related one, unfortunately NG+ is a joke in a Bloodborne.

9/10 game definitely, wish there was more content. Any news on DLC plans?

Nothing yet but after both Dark Souls games I imagine we'll be getting some.
