Really tough call...Dom I say TA2, but ww is the wild card.

TA2 is the safe bet though. But will be rooting for SW7.

Star Wars

No

No

Don't care about KH, though I think Marvel would be more interesting gameplay wise

Star Wars will make more money I THINK.

Which movie will be better? I don't have a clue. I neither love nor hate JJ or Whedon. They're both ok directors.

Don't forget the teaser for Star Wars is the most watched trailer of all time. It smashed the record held by Avengers. That is a good indication of hype.

I went back through the thread before its first bump in February and the bump from today, and it looks like this:

The Force Awakens over Age of Ultron, 95 votes to 50.

Most of the 50 votes for Age of Ultron seemed to come with a "easy" or "hands down" or "not even a question" attached to them.

I will hope and pray it's Star Wars. Those marvel movies are so fucking stale and RDJ as iron man drives me crazy.....

Also, it's a new STAR WARS.

There are 6 Star Wars movies, and only 1 Avengers movie so far...

Avengers movies don't happen in a vaccuum. Avengers is the fifth movie in a series started by Iron Man, and Avengers 2 will be the 10th in that same series.

It took 30 years to accumulate six Star Wars movies. Marvel got to 10 in seven.

The Star Wars name has a lot going for it still so I think it will make more money. We've had loads of Marvel movies so the thirst isn't as real as it is with Star War which has had a decade hiatus.

Better film is a tough one, the best answer is that they'll both be great most probably, so a draw.

Which one would I see if they came out on the same day? Star Wars, because I've barely watched any of the Marvel Universe films (just Iron Man 1 IIRC) whereas I've seen all 6 Star Wars films.

James Bond and Metal Gear Solid 5 will come close to revenue.

Get as much variety into Kingdom Hearts as possible!

Right now, I actually have Star Wars level or ahead of Avengers (at least domestically). Novelty factor of Star Wars (first movie in 10 years) puts it ahead. Not sure crowds are going to be that hyped about Avengers 2 as they were with the first one (and the fact that we now have an annual "Avenger" movie)

Internationally, it's a different story - depends mostly with how exposed China has been historically to Star Wars and if there is genuine interest there.

Not only is Avengers 2 going to make more money, but it will be the superior movie in every way. Bet on it.

I think Star Wars will make more money - it's a global institution. There's a reason that one trailer alone has over 60 million views on YouTube. People are hyped for some new freaking Star Wars, especially because it's Han, Luke and Leia again.

December is going to be nuts.

I'm hoping both will be so good that I won't be able to choose.

And Star Wars will make the most money because most people have either been salivating for a good Star Wars movie for over three decades, or grew up on the kid-friendly prequels.

Placing all my
imaginary
bets on Star Wars. I'm way more excited for that than AoU even though I love the Avengers.

I say Avengers 2 will make more than The Force Awakens. Does it really matter, though, since they are both Disney properties. Whichever makes less, Disney will still make a lot of money on both movies.

While Star Wars nostalgia is tremendous, I don't think it'll be enough to overcome the Marvel train at this point. I can see Age of Ultron hitting 2 billion. Star Wars? Avengers numbers or higher - 1.8 billion?

Star Wars for both. I guess it just has a massive fan base, that spans decades.

Yeah, Star Wars by a good margin.

No Star Wars film has opened since the explosion of the OS market. Episode III has the largest OS share at 55.2%. It will be interesting to see what it does.

How do you know that? Pre-sale numbers?

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-03-10/disney-s-new-avengers-film-could-smash-record-forecaster-says

(Bloomberg) -- Walt Disney Co.’s new “Avengers” movie could have the biggest feature-film debut of all time when it’s released May 1, helping keep movie profits up at the world’s largest entertainment company.

“Avengers: Age of Ultron” is forecast to collect $217 million over its opening weekend in the U.S. and Canada, according to researcher Boxoffice.com. The first “Avengers,” in 2012, generated $207 million and -- at the moment -- holds the best-ever opening weekend ranking.

"the number and intensity of positive posts have been the strongest Boxoffice.com researchers have seen for any movie since they started monitoring the site."

I feel like Star wars will pull just ahead in terms of profit, just from adult geeks dragging their kids to the film.
Jesus christ, I just remembered Disney owns both properties. GAT DAMN

This won't be happening with Avengers?

It's not like the audience base for the two films are that drastically different: They're both basically four-quadrant pictures in every way.

Avengers did not track anywhere close to its 207M OW. Its midnight gross was only the 8th largest of all time (far below Harry Potter and Twilight films). Actually it didn't even have the highest midnight gross of 2012 (TDKR, Hunger games beat it).

Just think about how many views the next trailer is going to get.

I just feel that Stars wars has a bit more childhood cache than Avengers, but regardless Disney stay winning.

Dunno I feel like stars wars has a lot more mainstream hype, although personally I couldn't be less interested.

I had really low expectations for the first avengers but ended up loving it, and once again I'm kinda cynical about age of ultron even though the trailers have been good, so hopefully history repeats.

why you guys talking about which one will get more money

Disney be like

Yup, they have 2015 covered with the biggest movie of the summer and the biggest movie of the winter. It is hard to say what will come out on top. This summer doesn't look as congested as 2014's, so that may give a little more leeway to Avenger's box office numbers. But Star Wars is going 'James Cameron' by being released in December. A month where there is going to be almost zero competition.

Marvel I would think has way more cultural clout with the younger generation than Star Wars these days just due to pure output of merchandise, marketing, and TV shows.

There may be a lot of fans of Star Wars dragging their kids to see the film, but Avengers will have that as well, except it will also have more of the reverse with kids dragging their parents to the movies.

I thought the next trailer was before TA2 on 4/30?

Star Wars Celebrations is the 16th, and Kennedy/Abrams are showing stuff on that day specifically.

Trailers are often "attached" to movies and premiere on the internet days or weeks before that movie opens. Being attached to a movie doesn't really mean a trailer will debut with that movie anymore. It just means if you see that movie, you're going to see the trailer.

But most of the time, you'll have already seen that trailer, because it went online the week before as its own viral thing.
