How do i know if a Chalice dungeon is finished?
Optional area. You can leave if you find the lamp. Optional boss there too.
Hmm, opened a door in a Loran Chalice Dugeon and a dozen summoned spiders (from a bell maiden) rushed me, they were basically walking into the door while I opened it. Unfair.
No Ludwig's Holy Blade?
if i leave, can I go back there? Or is it a one time only type deal?

Had the same thing happen before. Another door was a wolf immediately attacking.
5 per shot would make it waaaaaaaaaaaaay too broken. If anything, it should be more than 10.
The boss in the choir,is some huge bullshit.Ebrietas
Ridiculous turn speed -I guess they heard the people complaining about DS2 and decided to say 'fuck em'-, huge radial attacks, and a telegraphied attack that will still hit you if you don't dodge precisely.
Besides the boss inflicts the always funny frenzy effect, that keeps filling up even after one hit.
May do some chalice dungeons and return for her later because fuck this, this is just stupid design.
I have a giant werewolf in the room before the spiders, when I fight it the spiders come rushing in. Fuckers can chase me all the way to the lamp. The bell maiden is 2 rooms away, but there's another giant werewolf in the room right before her...
This. I beat the game with the Tonitrus and I still love it, but I didn't know that the Holy Blade had such insane goddamn stat scaling. I have 30 Strength and 40 Arcane so I could've been doing so much more damage!
You can come back.

Oh wow, STR and Arcane huh? Most people went for STR or Skill or a STR/Skill combination... I am curious, what level are you and what is your stat points distribution in the end?
Also what kind of weapon setups do you most favor? What do you consider as the easiest/hardest boss to fight against with that kind of setup? Sorry for the questions![]()
Isn't there a rune that halves QS bullet costs? I remember someone mentioning a video where their cannon only used 5 bullets per shot.5 per shot would make it waaaaaaaaaaaaay too broken. If anything, it should be more than 10.
That's stupid. I think 2 shots per run is not enough and it's fun to use.
Can you parry with the canon as well?
My first character has Str/Skill/Arcane around 30 to 40 each. Ludwig plus the enchant is so damn good.
I saw a lot of people listing Mas a favorite boss and I wondered why, since I thought she was one of the stupider, more trivial bosses (and there is a lot of competition here in the second half of the game, from my experience). All she ever did was flail directly in front of her and eat L2 greatsword attacks from behind. Then I looked her up on a wiki and learned that it actually does stuff I never saw because Ludwig's Holy Blade even stupider than the Hunter's Axe in PVE.ergo's Wet Nurse
Can someone explain to me how chalice dungeons work? What lvl can they be done at? I'm level 40...
Beginner's Guide to Starting Chalice Dungeons
Alright, I've never done something like this, but I'll try to keep it concise and to the point for anyone asking questions about chalice dungeons. If I miss anything important, and I probably will, let me know. Please don't laugh at my pitiful attempt.
What are Chalice Dungeons?
Chalice Dungeons are optional content you can start doing as soon as you receive your first from the Blood-starved Beast. I would recommend starting them as soon as you can, because if you wait until end game, you will end up going through the earlier depth dungeons at a much higher level than intended.
Chalice Dungeons come in several forms: Standard, Root, Sinister, and Defiled.
Standard dungeons can be thought of as the "story" portion of the content. You will need to do these first to obtain better chalices and progress. These are pre-made dungeons by the devs that always have the same loot and bosses.
Root dungeons are randomized in layout, loot, and bosses. This is where you will find things such as uncanny weapons, runes, and powerful gems.
Sinister dungeons are a variant of root dungeons. These dungeons contain bell maidens that summon other players to invade your dungeon. IIRC, these must be purchased inside a standard dungeon of the same depth.
Defiled, well, I think there is only the one, and it is required that you do it while progressing. This cuts your HP in half, and is in my opinion, the most challenging.
In addition, the higher level chalices will require materials that you need to gather inside specific chalices. Eventually, you will be able to purchase most of these through the insight vendor. There are also additional rites that require rare materials found in chalice dungeons. These basically make the dungeon more difficult by spawning certain enemy types or buffing them in some sort of way. I believe the purpose is for better loot, because these enemies generally drop high level gems.
How do I start?
Simply go to any altar and choose to create a chalice. You will also be able to use other players codes at an altar to enter their chalice. You can remove these from your altars at any time, so you have plenty of room to store several favorites if you like sharing. Don't bother sharing standard dungeons, though, as these are the same for everyone.
When inside, your goal is to find lever on each layer to delve deeper. Sometimes in the hallway between layers, you will find a side dungeon. These side dungeons are generally more lucrative, and you will want to do them for the materials that you can find inside chests, especially in Root dungeons. Each layer ends with a boss, and the first 2 are usually pretty easy. Sometimes, the dungeons can go up to 4 layers, with 4 bosses.
Watch out for illusory walls. You will notice some walls seem out of place, and you can attack them to reveal the illusion. You can leave at any point, and your progress is always saved. You won't have to redo bosses, but enemies will respawn.
Why Do Chalice Dungeons?
There are several reasons I would recommend doing them.
1. Some of the best, and most challenging bosses, only appear in there, especially the final boss.
2. Uncanny and lost weapons.
3. HIgh level gems.
4. High level runes.
5. Key Items you can use in the main game, for example, a ring that allows you to propose to the Vileblood Queen.
6. Apparently NPC's are inside, so if you like lore stuff there's that. I've seen spider-patches inside and talked to him.
7. Well, I think it's fun.
Common Questions
How do I use the Makeshift Altar and what is it for? You need a key item to use it from I believe, Hintertomb Depth 3. It's for quick searching co-op and pvp in chalice dungeons, and also for finding a random dungeon for you to do.
What is depth? Depth is like a tier of difficulty. D1 is very easy, and D2 is not much more difficult. D3 ramps it up a bit to about level 60ish I'd say at the very least. D4 is about NG+ and D5 is a bit higher than that.
How do I get X Chalice? 3 of them are from the main story, and they drop from these bosses: Blood-starved Beast, Ebreitas, and Amygdala. The first Hintertomb chalice is looted in Pthumeru Depth 2. Any other chalice will come from progressing through the "story".
What is the difference between uncanny, lost and normal weapons? They have different gem slots.
What happens to my chalice dungeons when I start NG+? Nothing. They will remain as they were and you will lose nothing. Think of them are being completely separate from the main game.
I tried to use a chalice glyph but it says I don't meet the requirements, what do? You need to create and finish the dungeon type you are searching for first before you can join another. I don't think you need to finish Root dungeons to join random ones.
To be fair like 75% of BB bosses are poorly designed and uninteresting.MWN is indeed awesome. First time I beat her she never did any of her cool moves! I thought it was a shitty boss. Then I played against her 2 or 3 more times.
Oh and does anyone else just LOVE posts from people who claim a boss's design is shitty because they can't beat it? "All the other bosses were okay but THIS ONE is just bad design!" I swear every boss has at least a dozen posts from people claiming that about them :lol

Definitely one of the most difficult fights in the game for me. Wear some Frenzy resistant armor andattack her head.
that's not better than hunter's axe either. nothing is.

Feel free to answer the same questions as well
I am honestly very curious!
One shot Micolash, though I spent 10-15 min getting lost trying to figure out how to get to him in phase 2.
then
one shot Wet Nurse as well. WTF does this game get easier right before the end? I also did Castle Cainhurst, and THAT boss was tough. Amygdala in frontier was easy though. Now just gonna knock out the two bosses in upper cathedral ward before taking down the endgame 2.
When do they give it to you? When I knock now in that area, all I get are wild screams. You know how some houses allow you to talk to NPCs as indicated by an orange light in the window?
Find any house and talk to the NPC. They should give you a Tonsil Stone (you might already have it). There's two houses near that area that you can go back to and check out. Right near where there were two hunters.
ButIS bad design though...Ebrietas

Hell no, it's a great fight. The only unfortunate part is that she doesn't know how to deal with a particular tactic.
It's interesting to look at the trophies so far and see how many people who bought it can actually complete it
Only 25% so far have beatenso farrom
What?? I honestly only had trouble with one of her moves,Grabbing her ass, which murdered me twice.the magic laser
When do they give it to you? When I knock now in that area, all I get are wild screams.
Just beat VA and then BSB, by the way.
I've been trying to do that; also, using the gun to get her to do the head attack so I can wtfpwn her.
But once I get her under 40% too many things can go deeply wrong and she just ends up killing me either of frenzy, or with the lazors. Running low on sedatives and the lecture hall guys only drop one every other time.
Heh. Same here.so i beat the, went back to the church, went outside.. new enemy that i have never seen before shows up... kind of a grim reaper looking one... kills me... cutscene.. now I'mblood starved beastIs this supposed to happen?in an prison?
Am i screwed?
What does that even mean "supposed to happen"? I'll find out as I continue along the story I guess. It's not supposed to happen, per se, but it can. You aren't screwed, though.
Heh. Mr.2HKO? Only if certain things happen. Thanks guys..
well... I wont be leaving till I slay that boss 8)
Is the insane difficulty a sign that I shouldn't be here? And does it befit me in anyway to kill the boss here anyway. As many eons as that would take. You can go back there, however: (slight spoilers)after a certain story event, the area is drastically different.
On further investigation, it seems only certain houses give you the item.
I'd check this page for exact locations: http://bloodborne.wikia.com/wiki/Tonsil_Stone

I had no idea multiple NPCs can give it out! I've only ever gotten it from the same NPCS in every play through.
