Bloodborne |OT+++| ...and so the Nightly Hunt continues

You ain't completing the game otherwise.
To say anything would spoil large portions of the game. Just know, you're in for it :)
Oh, I already know that there is one mandatory boss that is
a spider
. I have no intention of letting that stop me. :)
There's a building at the top of the
Nightmare of Mensis
that has them and I don't think you can really avoid going through. Fortunately once you open a shortcut there you don't have to pass through there again.
Cheers, so
Nightmare of Mensis
has them. Any other location(s)?

Oh boy, there's a couple of areas later that's gonna be a bit hard for you. Honestly, I ran past the worst of it in the mandatory section but you're still gonna have to kill a few. There's an optional area that has some spider like creatures that you're probably best to avoid entirely. You can run past them and get indoors without engaging if you want to do that section. *shudders*
Thanks. What's the name of the optional area?
I'm not a literal
arachno
phobe, I just think they're creepy and disgusting and unsettling. It's not gonna stop me from playing the game, I just want to be properly prepared. I feel like games can be pretty good exposure therapy. Usually once you've fought these kinds of creatures a couple of times in a game the effect wears off, as you start "seeing through" the fiction and focusing on the gamey aspects of fighting them. It'll be good for me to have to face this and toughen up a bit. :)

We are born of the butt, made men by the butt, undone by the butt.

It's not at all inappropriate. A shot = a try and it's a completely appropriate term to an RPG like Bloodborne, which like MMORPGs, where it can take many attempts and reps to kill a boss.

Also given that you generally don't shoot things to kill them in Bloodborne and are usually hitting things to death - One Hit Kill, OHK, seems more appropriate.
And the fact that you can one-shot enemies, also possibly with exploiting the BB system, one-shot bosses?

I'll just have to agree to disagree with this "one-shot, one-try" stuff.

Man, both the Cleric Beast and Father G gave me such hard times. I'm starting to wonder if I'll be able to tolerate the game further as I hear those two were chumps in comparison to what is forthcoming.

I must have died over 20 times on CB and even more on FG. I just couldn't time my dodging and attacking right. Eventually with FG I had to "cheat" with that music box but even still I had to fight several times over before I could kill him as his final form just kept pounding the shit out of me before I could do anything.

Though I'm sure it needs not to be said, but the Loading times are probably more frustrating than the amount of deaths.

Her death
has no connection with that.
Maybe there's a rotten apple among the people you invited there.
She was
alive until I killed the fetus, though, so I thought that I had accidentally hit her in the process as well
... The only "people" still alive were
the creepy robed thing and the guy who keeps calling me a liar
.

Well I finished it. However now looking back at least 2 of the bosses bugged out on me
shadows never changed stages, once fireballs guy dead other two were very easy.
and
wet nurse was a joke. Just did slashes and teleport with slashes
.

Been playing mostly blind so wasn't even aware till reading up on the bosses after finishing.

I thought
micolash
might have bugged to
he was so damn easy but reading up he only has two attacks. He never did spell but I stayed in his face so might have stopped him.

Shame such a bug exists. I quit to main menu before ending a session just out of habit but I guess you gotta force quit app to ensure bug doesn't happen? Guess a lot of people will get effected by it.

Enjoyed the game a lot despite dissapointed with the few bosses bugging. Looks like I only got 4 of the optional bosses anyway so will save all that for a second play through sometime. After bug is patched and maybe some dlc is out.

NPC: dude that is sleeping
Where do you recommend me to go then?

The one that is sitting in the chair? It isn't necessesary but you get a rune for killing him.
Well I would recommend to
save/tell everyone to go to safe place
and just check every other place. If that is only place open though go for it.

Since it's my first time playing, should I go out of my way to get the true ending, or just let whatever happen happen?

fwiw I'm not planning on playing NG+ Getting my ass kicked once is enough for me :P

The True Ending is pretty easy to get, so you should go for it. Especially since you don't plan on playing NG+. Though frankly, NG+ is a lot easier than the first time through.

Probably my 15th try on A
mygdala
now, whenever I am underneath it trying to hit its arms I am getting crushed. Even behind it. Did they change something about this boss fight with the update? Strategy videos on YT look so easy...

You're going to love the Defiled Chalice dungeon.

It depends on what you want to do. If you don't care about the circle-jerk PVP meta game on like gamefaqs and reddit where people are trying to decide between level 100 and level 120 builds specifically for a PVP community then just keep going with your current character.

Both Strength and Skill are good for almost every single weapon and you shouldn't worry about how high level you are. Every stat (except Endurance) is worth taking to 50 if you use weapons that use it.

Personally, I went 50/40/50/50/50/50 just so I could play with every weapon and item.

Every weapon except for the Blade of Mercy (Skill only) and Logarius' Wheel (Strength only) use both Phys ATK stats for scaling and it's good to have both. Bloodtinge is good for guns, especially the Cannon and Evelyn, and really important for the Chikage.

And Arcane, well personally I feel that Arcane is total garbage. The weapons with +Arcane damage innately barely get any bonus ATK from it and turning your weapon into a Arcane/Bolt/Fire weapon and using its Arcane scaling gives you *far* lower ATK than pure Physical weapons. The Arcane items also are pretty bad, imo. Especially the one that requires 40 Arcane to use - it's completely useless. The best one is the Arcane Buff item that works like Fire/Bolt Paper and only takes 15 Arcane to use.

Having 209 base Item Discovery at 50 Arcane is kinda nice though. 430 with all 3 Eye Runes equipped. Enemies almost always drop stuff at that high.

leveling vit past 50 is actually pretty usefull. I would not do it until you are 50-40-50-50 though. But with runes you still get 10-12(15 if you stack) per point which adds up and helps a ton in the defiled chalice.

Oh...I just defeated VA sort of by accident. I meant to go and do a run for some souls to buy more Fire Paper, but autopiloted back to the boss fight. Figured as I was there I'd get some practice in before my next proper attempt and accidentally killed her instead.

Question

I've beaten
3 Ninjas @ Forgotten Woods and then Rom. I've yet to beat Unseen Village boss (where I'm at now). I don't think I've ever been to Cainhurst and I'm L71. Did I miss it or is it ok to go there after this village boss?

There's a cave in the forgotten woods you missed (should be on the left by the houses). Take it.. it'll lead you somewhere. You'll find an item, read it and you should figure out how to get to cainhurst

Found a weapon called
Tonitrus
today. Put some blunt runes on it and levelled it up to +6 (when will I get my first chunks?) - this feels like a really cool weapon. Let's just hope enemies don't start to become resistant to bolt damage anytime soon! This will supplement my Ludwig's Holy Blade quite well I think. Just a question, what does the L2 do on this thing? It's a buff I suppose, seems to last maybe 10 seconds, but what's the tradeoff? Why shouldn't I have it buffed at all times?

Also, killed
Paarl
today, first try. Felt great, seeing as the last boss I killed (
Amelia
) was a roadblock for me yesterday.

this is my 4th playthrough and I screwed it up the previous 3 times (1st 2 times I killed her in
grand cathedral after Rom
and 3rd time I completely forgot to talk to her)

This time I just killed BSB on NG+ on my 2nd char. I spoke with her prior to FG. I have also kiled the Gatling Gunner and the other NPC hunter at the base of the tower.

I do not think that messes up her questline on my run with her I killed the gunner too, I would check the
Tomb of Odeon
now and if she is not there, check again after the VA fight.
On my run she was not a part of the fight in the Grand Cathedral after Rom, but rather she was outside laying on the stairs bleeding out. I killed the gunner too so you might be in good shape.

And the fact that you can one-shot enemies, also possibly with exploiting the BB system, one-shot bosses?

I'll just have to agree to disagree with this "one-shot, one-try" stuff.

Just because you can do both doesn't mean that both aren't appropriate. Both are widely and commonly used in games you can do both in and neither are incorrect. I've heard tons of people use to term to mean both for decades. Using one-shot to describe killing a boss in one attempt is normal to a great many people and complaining that they're saying an extremely common thing that they're used to saying and is a completely correct thing to say is quite silly.

Jezus does cleric beast just has a ton of health on NG+ or is my damage output to low?
Probably the latter. Slaughtered him on NG+.

in normal gameplay = Easy enough if you avoid the adds and do run & hit tactics.

R

in Chalice Dungeon = OH GOD? WHAT HORROR IN HELL IS THIS?!!?!
Haha I know right? The pillars can be used as cover but the mobs are so annoying and it seems he spammed the projectile more than in the regular game, but I don't know if it's just my imagination or more insight or what. All I know is that I got him on first try in the regular game but he took me several tries in the Chalice Dungeon.

Welp I think i understand what happened now.
I used the "shortcut/glitch" in the beginning of the game to get to the forbidden woods. Because of the that I defeated Rom before fighting amelia. So when i returned to fight Amelia the moon dissapeared. So there is NO WAY for me to advance anymore and i have to start all over again... So yeah, be carefull not to fight amelia after u defeated Rom.
Wait what? How do you reach
Rom
without the password?

Npcs in Dark Souls 2 sucked ass.

Worst is the girl, that obviously is the daughter of the black smith but after she moved in front of his shop nothing happens for the rest of the game.
They're still way better than NPCs in Bloodborne. Vengarl, Lucatiel, Gavlaan, Shalquoir, Licia, Navlaan, Straid, Creighton, etc. are all much more memorable than anyone in BB.

So this just happened to my friend. Weird right?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rE6...m-upload_owner
Hahaha wow.

Can anyone tell me if the Blade of Mercy is any good? The idea of dual blades sounds awesome, but I'm already level 60 and I was kinda doing an arcane build with Ludwig's.
I used them for a good part of the game. They're very good. Fast and powerful.

And now for the Chikage, which requires a bit more of an explanation.

Chikage - E in Strength, B in Skill. 1H mode only uses these two stats. It also has a S in Bloodtinge which gets added in in 2H mode. On the character screen it only shows the 1H mode Atk.

Now, even though the 1H mode Atk isn't the highest in the game given equal Blood Gems, and 50 in all stats and at +10, Chikage's 1H mode and 2H mode both hit harder for their base swings than any other weapon in the game. 1h mode vs a 1h mode and 2h mode vs a 2h mode of course.

For Example: Using 2x Phys ATK UP +20.3% and 1x Phys ATK UP +19.8% Gems my Chikage +10 has 184 base and +378 Phys Bonus. So it has a ATK rating of 562. It also has Blood Bonus of +432 which gets added in 2H mode for a total of 994.

Now using the exact same Gems on my Ludwig's +10: 200 Base, +617 Bonus for 817 Total. (I have better gems than this, but Ludwig's and Chikage use different types and I wanted to make them identical for this example).

Despite Ludwig's ATK being higher, Chikage's 1H mode hits harder than Ludwig's 1H mode by a bit. And in 2H mode Chikage obviously hits harder with its much higher ATK total.

So, Skill is definitely really important to Chikage's damage.
Thanks for the explanation. That's consistent with my experience as well, I'm a SKL build with low Bloodtinge, and I use mostly the 1h moveset and I do pretty damn good damage.

By far the most tedious with this game is the constant farming for blood vials..
If you git gud, you won't have to do that... ;)

Keep at it. Father G gave me more problems then any other boss so far and I'm 6 bosses in. You will get better and the weapons do as well.

Beat the game, including all optional bosses - what an absolutely amazing ride! Loved it, absolutely glorious. Between the atmosphere, art and game design I really love almost everything about this game.

(one bit I don't really like that much is how hard it is to get the blood stone chunks, NG+ with a weapon anywhere under +9 seems like a chore - hopefully I'll be able to get some in chalice dungeons because I haven't really done those yet :)

I beat the game on saturday and I immediately There are so many bosses I haven't faced, I'm just starting chalices, really haven't messed with pvp. I just want to keep playing. 66 hours in, and it has ruined my hype for the witcher and batman, it's that good.

Well that was dissapointing.
I got 40 insight so I can see the big spider dudes hanging on the buildings. Went all around Central Yarnham, Cathedral Ward and Hanwick Charnel Lane trying to see how many there were. I found 2, 2 that I already knew about because I'd run into their frenzy attacks. Guess I won't feel bad about spending my insight at the messengers now.

Question...
what is up with that big invisible spider that guards the doors? How do you kill it and inflict potential damage to it? Do I skip him and move on or am I missing something? He also grabs you when you are near the door...
(it is after you defeat a hunter and acquire a bolt paper then make your way down to the big door)

just looked it up, it appears she
is outside the cathedral ward lamp
, I think this is the step I kept missing. You talk to her there and it sounds like she talks about the
tomb of Odeon
. Will check there. I was concerned because I saw someone say
the gunner
is a part of a questline.

Can friends organize pvp? I'm looking for someone to destroy so if anyones interested im a level 96 seeking some puny mortal who's willing to eat my ludwig.

PM me :)

You are not supposed to go that way yet. :)

I think I'll need help on the cainhust boss. I'm trying to kill him but ... Agh! Any tips? (Level 81, cane)

you can stagger him and get a vicious attack, just practice your timing. He'll become super easy. Make sure you shoot the sword he stabs into the ground too.

I don't think I've found a single chunk in the chalice dungeons. I've found a couple of blood rocks, though.

Beat the game Sunday with all optional bosses except the true ending one. My favorite game world of all time right up there with Bio shock.

Yeah, I think you still get 8-9 HP per level past 50. It's definitely useful. I'm not sure if anyone has completely charted gains past 50 though and if it drops anymore or not. If it keeps at that rate that's still another 400+ base going from 50 to 99 which is a pretty big addition to the 1500 base at 50 Vit.

The other stats have a pretty severe drop though. Like, 1 point of ATK per level for the high scaling weapons. And low scaling stats it takes a few levels to get 1 ATK. Another +50 Atk pre-Gem Bonus is a decent amount, though the grinding it would take to get there would suck I imagine.

99/40/50/50/50/50 probably wouldn't be too bad considering how fast you can get echoes from certain places, though I'm not exactly sure how much exp requirements keep increasing at that point.

Possibly. I know i never talked to her after the first time.
I just went to the Tomb of Odeon and was attacked by the yellow hunter Henryk and then she showed up after a bit and kicked ass.

Wish you the best of luck!

That's bulshit. The game gets much easier. Some bosses might give you trouble again, but ask for help here for strategies and use co-op. It makes it that much easier.

I think I had to fight Father G 8 times to beat it, and most bosses from then on I beat in one or two tries, tops. I think I already fought 4 bosses after those.
Really, don't worry, learn with the game, and don't force yourself to beat a certain path if it is too difficult; just tackle something else and come back later.

Holy shit, what a boos fight! I didn't know they'd
transform
, so I hacked the two
melee
away, and that made the fight that much harder. Thankfully, it made me wary of the
mage
, so, after taking down the
katana
dude, I kept him at bay with my trusty pistol while I made the other take distance, and then closed in and stun locked him to death.
Then, it was just a matter of not letting the other invoke the
huge snake head
and using i-frames to keep from taking damage from that damn long range
weird whip like weapon
.

It was beautiful. I love this game.

Haha same here, I loved that fight! I used that pillar to keep the
mage
separated from the other two and killed the
katana
guy first. Started off using Ludwig's 2H but decided to go 1H after a little bit. Managed to do a charged backstab him when he was
transforming or whatever (around half health?)
and the visceral pretty much did him in. Got a visceral on the other
melee
guy with a good shot from my gun and made quick work of him lol. That
snake thing from the mage
really surprised me but dodged the intial hit and
kept my distance till it disappeared and then the mage
didn't stand a chance. Hoping for more intense boss fights like this one :). I did not enjoy the next boss (R
om
) that much

Man E
brietas or whatever her name is, is gonna be really tough.
My weapon does no damage unless you smack it in the face, but it can barely even reach that. Guess I'll put it off till later.
Yeah, you have to be close enough to bait an attack that leaves her head vulnerable, but far enough away that you don't get insta-killed. It's tricky.
