I just joined the hunt.

Just bought this and FIFA 15 digitally!

Can't wait to dive in.

I never completed Demon Souls, have Dark Souls on PC but never got through that either.

THIS IS GOING TO BE THE ONE!
Good luck! I think BB is the easiest to get into since alot of the stuff that would seem complicated to newcomers is gone.. though i guess it depends on how far you got into the souls games

Lol. You guys were right about bolting straight past all the guys in Nightmare of Mensis. Thanks a lot. No shame haha.

Watching elajjaz fight
Rom
over and over makes me feel pretty good about how I tackled him.

Of course he's looking for quick strategies and the way this fight was designed, for speed runners doesn't look like there's any.

The first part with the tall giants and the Frenzy I just ran by everyone. Once you get inside, it slows a it and you can take stuff on. Don't forget the hidden path to the
lever
half way through.

Fuck, pumped.my vit.to 50 and defiled layer 3 boss is still one shotting me.

If you're talking about
Amygdala's
mega faceplant palm-slap, I'm Lv180 and I'm pretty sure that would still one-shot me. Though wearing full Bone Ash Armor I can (just barely) survive Poochie's charge attack.

Defiled is basically just a "never get hit" game. For the last boss, I'd recommend doing the standard "beat the brain" method until he reaches the third phase
and rips his arms off
, then switch to running behind his left ankle and just working the Achilles' like crazy. There isn't, so far as I found, a remotely safe way to continue hitting his head at that point.

I suppose you could also try to save a full load of quicksilver bullets and Bone Marrow Cannon him in the cerebellum as soon as he goes double-berserk, but in my experience it wasn't enough to actually kill him, and you actually have to get inside the danger zone of his enormous hitboxes to reliably land cannonballs, anyway. Probably better to just hamstring the bastard.

Working on getting through Chalice Dungeons on my character.

Killed Flare Dog more easily than I thought on 2nd attempt in Defiled Chalice, but then Layer 3 Amygdala 1 shots me, oh BloodBorne.
Only a bit more bullshit left before the true Gem Farming experience begins.

Going to farm cursed gems? And if so, where?

Anyone kidnapped or in that area and want to survive at low levels, great farming BTW for twin blood shards and echoes
when you are at lamp the snatcher giants won't come down stairs to lower level so you can fight them on stairs. The two pigs outside will usually stay below the kirkhammer can reach them from balcony overlooking the open area. The snatcher also get stuck on cells leading to paarl... And the last snatcher guarding the tonitus always goes back to staring at the door so worst case backstabbing and run away

Yes I spent a " while " there

I could be wrong but you can do the Izc chalice (Depth 5) without beating the defiled. The defiled is required for the plat (which at this point you are soooo close to getting it).

Any ETA on the loading times patch?

I don't believe this is actually a thing, yea I know they said it and all but I'm being a skeptic. I even bought an sshd to somewhat mitigate the waiting time. What I'm really hoping for is a patch giving us the ability to buy chunks. I want this more than anything. I would love to get most of my weapons to +9 at the very least.

Damn was chasing
Micolash
all over the place got him down to a slither and one shotted me with magic.

Got him second time though!

Easy min-boss but I really enjoyed it, nice change, well designed.

Any ETA on the loading times patch?

I wouldn't get your hopes up. I'm guessing there are significant challenges around reducing the load times due to the engine and the way the areas are loaded/streamed/not streamed. Their announcement was that they were "looking into it" but not a promise to actually release a fix. Hopefully we'll get something, but I'm not holding out too much hope.

For me, just being able to reset things by touching a lamp (rather than going back to the dream) would be a big win in those regards. Because currently you need to hit two loading screens just to reset an area...

Going to farm cursed gems? And if so, where?

Here's as far as I understand:

Gem Population in the World (Not including Boss Drops which I think are fully random)

Pthumeru - Radial Gems
Loran - Crescent Gems
Isz - Triangle Gems

Cursed Modifier on your Root (Randomized) Chalice will always net you Cursed Gems.
Bosses drop Elemental Gems leaning towards that bosses Element.
Depth 5 has been giving the best Gems / Runes from what I've seen, sometimes you may not necessarily want Cursed Gems as there are plenty of non-cursed great gems.

Other than that, I would just look up Glyph codes, I've been seeing alot of Ptumertu Ithly(5) Roots with good loot.

Okay, sorry for being obscure, but in that area before Micolash, with all those small dudes and the two big cleaver ones, there is one of those cage elevators and it took me down. I found myself in a literally pitch black area that looked kinda "glitchy", ran in one direction for a while, and ported back to the lantern after nothing happened. Bug?

Riposte

so I found the
living string, and red jelly, killed all bosses, got the blood rock have every weapon emblem other then beast claws and the scythe, did Alfred and Eileen's sidequests, got all three one third cords, and found all four chalices.
Is it safe for me to go into ng+ and then finish the dungeons I only need the
blood gem +15,all weapons, and chalice dungeon level 5 trophy

there's a reason.
mother brain

As well as this game plays I think I still prefer the combat in Dark Souls. The faster pace of the combat in Bloodborne downplays the tactical decision making. I'm glad they tried something different though.

No. There's an elevator with a broken door in that level. You'll see a window you can roll outta the elevator to, follow it you'll find a lever. Then go back to that pitch black place

Can someone help explain arcane scaling to me in depth?

Take the Kirkhammer, for example Scales A/E/-/B at +10, the B being arcane. How does arcane factor into the damage the weapon deals if it only deals physical damage? Does the arcane modifier only effect it if you change its damage type using a gem? If I were rolling a str/arc build, for example, would there bo no way of making use of both of those stats?

Have you knocked down the
giant mother brain? It falls down there and you can find it down there and hack away at it until it dies and you get a living string that you need for chalice dungeons.

Going from Platinum-ing this over to the Dark Souls 2 rerelease is really hard. I'm not sure I'm enjoying it this time around. Not to mention everything is soooooooo
ooooooooooooo
much slower in DS2.
I miss Bloodborne already but I have zero desire to ever touch a chalice dungeon again.

I made sure I could survive Watchdog charge attack at full health before I even bothered with it because sometime he just does it, its easy to dodge but sometimes he catches me off guard with it. However Amagdala faceplant should never happen to you if it does you may want to change your tactics. Only thing you should be getting him by is the occassion arm swipe and the foot stomp.

Oh I did all that already after being there. Guess I'm heading back, thanks :-)

Arcane scalings on weapons only take effect in two cases. If a weapon doesn't have built in arcane damage, it only scales if you gem them for fire/bolt. You lose all physical damage/scaling though. If it does innate arcane damage then it will scale with arcane but you won't be able to gem/firepaper it.

So yes a kirkhammer will never take advantage of both str/arc.

you can put gems in it which switch the damage to arcane. I had few of these and the damage was no as good as what I got from physical.

Maybe that's part of the challenge, too. We don't know for sure that they can respawn all enemies without a loading screen. Just because ds1 and 2 did it doesn't mean Bloodborne's engine can. If it can and they didn't let us, then that's a super boneheaded decision.

Have you guys noticed how the game doesn't despawn dead bodies? I went all the way to cathedral ward and back to central yharnam and all the bodies were still dead. I'm not sure there's a need for that if keeping those things in memory is affecting loading.

I beat his ass at lvl60.

Phase 1: Parry and evis since his attacks are slow and easy tell.
Phase 2: Dodge toward him, which puts you behind him, and then, get 1-3 hits in. Repeat.
Phase 3: Go range. Bone marrow + gun and bottle. That should finish home off. If you run out, use a weapon with long run charge R2. He is aggressive so will run into hit. Personally, I use the holy blade.

One tip I can give you, is if he does the move where he
jumps up
. Start running underneath and behind him. If you're not close enough to do that, then run as far away as possible. I've actually been able to dodge that move a couple times by getting behind him and if I stayed far enough away from him, it at least didn't completely drain my life when I got hit.

You can stop him enraging. It has such a long windup that you can set him up for a backstab, interrupting hia buff and leaving him open for parries the remainder of the fight

I only had issues with him because I kept trying to parry when he was in 1h mode. When he's like that I'd just dodge around him and get a poke or two in.

One thing I learned was to NOT use 2h weapons on him when his gun is out after getting hit by a parry/visceral attack when he was at 20%.

Funny part is I killed him with a molotov at the end by accident.

Thank you all for those tips! And thanks everyone for the support! But I finally did it!! Did it at level 77.

Well, I think I'm finally done with this game for now. It was great, but I have many other things to do now and Bloodborne, just as D. Souls, really recquires some dedication... also I have other damn good games to finish.

With Eileen. If I never encountered right in the beginning of the game, and I'm about 3/4 through the game, is it too late for her questline or can I still complete it?

Eh, once he's in his third phase the entire region in front of him is just a huge fuck-off pointless mess. His AI goes spazzy and his hitboxes get nuts, and there's no longer really any vulnerability to exploit on any of his attacks at that point.

Seriously, just run behind him and shank his ankle once he goes into dual-wield arms mode. He doesn't have a response except to stamp now and then, and if you work his leg hard enough it seems to do comparable damage to hitting his arms, anyway. The brain is just a lost cause once he goes into full-on bad boss temper tantrum mode.

Hi Hawkian!
One of us, one of us :D Hey Hawkian, nice to see you here :)
.
Thanks for all the responses guys. Sorry I didn't see them until now... my work filter doesn't like this thread much, and page 39 is completely inaccessible for some reason :-/ Finally read it on my phone.

So durability exists but it isn't displayed on screen eh? Is it automatically repaired if you go back to the Dream before a weapon is broken? Wiki doesn't seem to be fleshed out on this detail yet :P

I didn't know about visceral attacks at all. I was a huge riposte freak in the other games so I assume this is to be my bread and butter. Thanks for the info, will have to get good at this ASAP.
Oh wow, you here?

I got bad news though, there is no weapon like Hawkmoon in BB, sadly.
Hmm or maybe i'll just get my money back. :D

Okay, so...

Thread Cane, that has Arcane scaling but no built-in damage = Arcane only applies for blood gems

Blades of Mercy, with Arcane scaling and built-in Arcane damage = Arcane always applies

Did I get that right?

Actually if you use the magic weapon buff, arcane and str scaling applies at the same time.
