Grand Theft Auto V Steam pre-load is live

Yay! Now the launcher graces me with a countdown timer!

26.6GB free space left on the HD I installed it on. lol

The files are in a folder called "depotcache" which should be located in the steamapps folder. You will need at least 120gbs of space free on your SSD if you move the encrypted files across because steam needs space to decrypt all 60gbs.

I would say personally it would be better to decrypt the files on your legacy hard disc then move the decrypted files across once it is done.
I think that's what I'm going to do as I thought about it more and I'm not going to sweat it until the game is out and then I will move the files over because that SSD is basically empty.

Yes, the same as the other versions - Rockstar Social Club and whatever their period entitlement check system is since social club doesn't do that in other games

it'll probably have social club in the same way as Max Payne 3 had. you have to log in to your RSC account when the game boots up through an in-game overlay in order to play. I never had any problems in MP3. You basically log in once and never encounter it again

Thanks for the info guys.

I added GTAV into my cart on the Rockstar Warehouse for shits and giggles...it adds 2 items (The game and a bonus code), so if you dont redeem the bonus code, assume you just get vanilla gtav

Not too sure about the Steam version though

That's my worry. With steam it might just be applied from the start unless it's listed as DLC that's installed. Anyone see anything in their steam account in the game's section on this front? Something that looks like it can be uninstalled?

It's PC. With singleplayer, you'll be able to modify money fairly trivially most likely. Set it to 0 at the start, and add money later if you want it back

Sure there is that but only if the game is allowing in it. I'm not going to assume this is a guarantee.

The number of ppl that download at 1mb/s or sub that is insane. In Ontario 3mb/s is the 'cheap/shitty' internet. 10mb/s is average.

Whats happening in the states?

the GTA PC modding scene is very huge. I remember people managed to decrypt and mod GTA IV even when R* encrypted all the files at one point.

Here we go.

Classic. I did that for CoD AW.

yeah Wolfenstein TNO was on 4 DVDs, (maybe publishers should move to blu-ray for the PC retail releases but it don't really matter) for me it's still better than downloading 40 or more GBs on my slow internet and limited bandwidth cap. sadly unlike Wolfenstein Rockstar don't do steam installing from the discs for their games.

And according to Reddit, this is what the PC box looks like.

I think that's the Russian version but I hope it's like that worldwide. I'm tired of messing around with four-plus DVDs stacked on top of one another.

Do we have a ballparc for performance in the recommended specs yet?

I pretty much hit them on the head, can I expect 60fps at 1080p?

I'll be getting one of those 7-disc monsters. It would take me a more than a day to download too, so I prefer to go retail for this one.

Holy crap at those new screenshots on IGN. PC version looks super slick and shiny. Can't wait to explore the city.

I'm thinking the pre-order bonuses may be provided as Social Club codes (regardless of whatever version). The social club runs as an overlay on all versions, and traditionally thats where DLC codes are redeemed

Is it possible to preload on HDD then unpack on SSD?

Why would you want to? You'd still need 120 gigs free on the SSD so you'd be better off just preloading it on the SSD in the first place. If you don't want to clear that much SSD space you can instead preload it on HDD, let it unpack there, then move it to the SSD if you want.

Does anybody know at what time (any time zone) on Tuesday the game activates? I might take the day off.

I thought I saw someone in an other thread (the one where it's 29$ at Nuuvem? can't remember) show a picture of the RSC launcher saying that the game launches at midnight, UK time, night between Monday and Tuesday.

also yeah, needin 120gb for download + unpack = literally as big as my whole SSD, lol. not gonna happen

im preloading and will unpack on a regular HDD. launch it there for a while then move it to the SSD

For anyone that lacks space on the SSD, just install it to the HDD and then move it over either manually or with Steam Mover. Will only take about 5-7 minutes to move it, the unpacking of the game will most likely be way longer than that so what is a few more minutes. Especially since we have waited almost 2 years already..

And if you have already downloaded it to your SSD and don't want to re-download it, just move the contents of steamapps/depotcache to the same folder on your other drive in the Steam folder. Then press delete content on the game in Steam and start the download again to the second drive. It will finish up right away since all the content is already there.

So with the current exchange rate this game is $101 australian 😔

I got it from Green Man Gaming. Use voucher code SAVE22-OVERHO-LIDAYS (put a space at the end of the code during check-out) and it comes out to $58.50 or roughly $76 AUD.
Only thing is it's not a Steam key, it's a Rockstar Social Club code so you have to download it through the Rockstar website.

Or get it on nuuvem for ~$38 AUD.

The download speeds seem to vary wildly. I've got a 100 Mbps connection and have been getting anything from 100 KB/s to 8 MB/s.

I do hope that if this game gets patches they're not those 7 gig ones like on some.

Is it really not possible to get better speeds in Australia?

It is, my mum's on NBN in her shithole outer suburbs home getting about 30mb down, while here I sit 5 minutes from CBD Perth getting 140kb on this download. (I average 420kb or so with steam usually).

I was thinking of possibly going down there to leach her bandwidth just for this game but I don't have the time ATM.

When I pulled it 2 nights ago it was fluctuating from 800k to 6.9mbps. The game is likely the biggest PC release since Skyrim.

Don't do this to me.

I very clearly stipulated this was merely me speculating but considering the huge impact of draw distance and population (density, variety) I don't see a single 780 cutting it for 30fps.

I plan on reducing them at half with my 970.

For those who didn't buy it yet, here's a code to bring the GMG price down to $45. I used the same code yesterday.

I think you are going to be way wrong.
