The game looks really interesting and looks fun to explore, but I'm really terrible at these action games (Monster Hunter goes over my head, for example). It gave me MH vibes. Is Xenoblade anything like MH?

Also I watched most of the stream (but not all) and understood most of it so if anyone has a question, I'll try to answer it.

No. There is little "action" and the combat isn't like MH. Most attacks are auto-attacks. Timing is only important with regard to selecting particular skills and triggering a few bonuses here and there. Otherwise, your characters auto-battle.

So from what i've gathered, co-op is only for specific missions and there isnt a free-roam co-op? besides the , borrow a player's character function (which will be controlled by AI)

hahahaha it's been a while :D

Sorry this is nothing against you, it's just this "is it like MH?" has become sort of a meme ever since this game got announced. And no, it is absolutely nothing at all like MH.

I've never played any game from this series and haven't been following it. It just happened that I was online when the stream started so I thought "what the heck-why not check it out?" ;)

What I got from it is that you go running around in a group destroying monsters and stuff. Which is my idea of what MH is. Except the overworld in X is cooler. So what is the big difference? (Super n00b here).

EDIT:

I see somebody answered my question! =D

I-I need a moment.

The mechs, the drifting, the huge bosses, the customization, the online, the music, THAT FINAL CUTSCENE HOLY SHITHAIJFORG!!!

That's only the online multiplayer portion.

Think of it like a classic menu/turn based based rpg but you're not restricted by movement (or just an MMO). This is very much like a classic RPG like Chrono Trigger/Final Fantasy and nothing like a hunting game.

Alright-I am SOLD!! =D

Forgive me for asking however did it say we ger early access for the DOLLS? Also, if your DOLL gets wrecked, can you quick travel to base so you can bring it to repair?
It seems the Doll dissapear, not sure if your wrecked robot can be repair on terrain...

Some translations from the online part from Cheesemeister:

#XenobladeX Cooperate and gain experience together. Form squads of 32 members to share free text Blade reports and explore efficiently.

#XenobladeX Approve of helpful Blade reports and popular posts will be shared across the game with everyone. Treasure Deals allow swaps.

#XenobladeX Squad Missions allow everyone to cooperate in defeating prescribed numbers of various enemies. Squad Quests are for 4 players.

#XenobladeX The degree of world exploration is tracked. World Enemies are large bosses to be fought together. There are 8 Unions to join.

#XenobladeX Ranking boards. You're not alone on your quest. Connect with others on your quest. Everyone and everything on Mira is connected.

The video was great. The game is huge and has so much depth. Those customizations for the mechs, damn! And the online seems to be done in serious way too, not just as a check mark.

I'm so hyped... This game looks fantastic!

The only point that saddens me is, that they have to release it on a... yeah.. kinda dead console. Don't get me wrong, but i hope the guys at Nintendo know, that it isn't the fault of a "bad" game or monolith, that it won't sell as expected. It's so big, and you are able to do so much.

I know i'll buy it, and i know others will too. But i also know, that this game could've been so much more, if it would've been released on a console, that's worth releasing for.

I would be so angry at Nintendo, if they don't bring another game like this after XCX, just because it didn't sell. At this point of WiiU Sales, i'm not even sure if it'll do Xenoblade numbers.

But yeah, i'm super hyped for it. It looks great and i really dig this MOHU-styled online multiplayer.

Didn't say how early you can access the Dolls, or how quickly you can travel to base for repair, but it did mention that the Dolls are insured for the first 3 times. So if you destroy your doll, you can get it repaired for free. But on the 4th time you destroy it, you have to pay for serious $$$$, especially if you buy a new one.

This direct actually made me angry. Angry because we STILL have no idea when X is coming out here. NOA, I don't care if it's coming out during the holidays (summer is preferred though) just tell me how long I have to wait. No specific date, but at least a time frame. SOMETHING!

I'm starting to think Zelda was delayed because Aonuma saw Xenoblade X and went: "Shit..."

Although I'm on media blackout for this game until release, based on the reactions here and how amazing Xenoblade on Wii was, it's entirely possible.

If X really does what it sets out to do, I don't see any other adventure game or RPG topping it.

A little sad that there doesn't seem to be any part customization (arms, legs, head etc.), but still pretty darn satisfied.

Wonder if squad missions will be limited to fighting in mechs with other people or if there will be missions on foot as well.

Also, are the squad missions out in the open world or do you get transported to arenas with monsters?

So how does the online work? I didn't understand a thing happening there.

Here you go but better wait for the sib version of this video, imo.
Looks really good. The online stuff is made to be completely optional but still fit within the logic of the game world. A lot of social stuff, basically a mix of Dragon's Dogma's pawns, Demon's Souls messages and covenants, and PSO style multiplayer questing. What really impressed me is how substantial the Doll system is. Takahashi finally got to make a "real" mecha RPG! :D :D :D

Seems to be a Guild/Squad focus. Being able to engage in Squad Quests that have "Kill X number of monsters" style objectives. Seems to be people can Squad up and achieve objectives in different zones and they all contribute. Also showed what looked like searching online for Hunters to join up with online.

Also showed several named factions which probably dictates quests, weapons, Dolls etc.

*sigh*
In my vein, nowwwwww!

I dont even need a "media blackout" for this game. It is so full of stuff to do i probably wont remember most of it when i finally get to play it

We are going to have some serious fun with this one

EDIT:

I see somebody answered my question! =D

For a more detailed comparison:

Monster Hunter is all about knowing the monster's attack patterns down to how long do their animations last, (same with your own attacks, as you cannot cancel an attack once initiated) Frame animation is very important since you have to know when its the right moment to attack, evade, heal, etc. Monster Hunter's various attacks vary depending on the weapon and they are all performed real time, like an action game, each weapon has different combos and such.

Xenoblade (and by extension, Xenoblade X) uses a set of different "Arts" arts are the main attacks that each character has, with different effects and properties. For example Shulk has an art that does more damage if you position yourself behind and enemy and use it, while Reyn has an attack that does more damage if he uses it right after another one of his arts.

The characters in Xenoblade have automatic attacks, which are done automatically (duh) once you are close enough to the enemy, these do little damage, but have some uses like it helps fill up Shulk's Talent Gauge. Every character in Xenoblade had a different talent gauge, think of it as a special move, Riki could steal things, Melia restack her spells, Shulk got a different set of monado arts once activated, etc.

Every time an art is used there's a cooldown period where you have to wait to use it again, in X there's system that allows you to wait double the cooldown time to make your art more powerful when used again. Arts all have different properties, and some work best when combined with another. A common example is that one of Shulk's arts can inflict "break" status on an enemy, which allows them to be inflicted with the "Topple" status (makes them fall down) Shulk doesn't have any art that inflicts topple (unless he switches to monado arts with his talent gauge) but his most of his teamates do, so Shulk has to rely on his teamates and vice-versa to fully use the potential of everyone's arts.

So basically MH is an action game where knowing your own attacks and the monster's is the key (preparation with the right items is also very important) down to the animation of each attack, while Xenoblade's combat functions more like that of an RPG with some MMO elements. Both games emphasize teamwork (although the first xenoblade was singleplayer, so you had to rely on the AI)

Forgive me for asking however did it say we ger early access for the DOLLS? Also, if your DOLL gets wrecked, can you quick travel to base so you can bring it to repair?
I understood from that video that your DOLL refuels and regenerates when not used/idle. When it gets blown up, you return to a BLADE terminal and get a replacement one for free (?). Might have misinterpreted that one.

I expect you're given a DOLL very early on or as soon as you can afford it. I do believe that they will delay giving you flight access for a while.

I'm starting to wonder. How will Monolith top this?

I thought the same thing after playing the first Xenoblade, but Monolith likes to prove me wrong. Whatever Monolith does next (probably another Xenoblade on the next Nintendo console) you can be sure they'll find a way to top this.
