Xenoblade Chronicles X: April 10th Doll Presentation [up: video with subtitles]

I caved and watched some of the footage.

Holy fucking shit. It's like every cool concept of every game ever rolled into one.

It really does put the Zelda delay into perspective. This game can honestly sustain me for a year.

Not even close. The music is almost de-hyping me somewhat. :/ I'm sure the overall soundtrack will be alright, but they keep focusing on the same tracks over and over which aren't that great imo. I know, different opinions and all that. :P

It's a joke. Duckroll loves
hates
Sawano. :3

I need this game, and these dragon in my veins

I hope there will be a demo for this. The game looks great and all but I just don't know if I would enjoy playing it. I'm normally not the kind of guy that like's to play lengthy games.

Honestly, now the game looks so good that it's actually making me mad. I will not have enough time in my life to dedicate to it the way I want to. So... I guess....fuck you Monolithsoft.

So good :O

The blade report and unions sound very Dark Souls, like they're Xenoblade's version of messages and covenants. I approve if so.

I so what this game. Won't need anything else for an entire year, sorry Smash. I want this DLC so I don't have to switch disc. Finally that 2T I bought is going to be put to good use.

damn!

The Dolls hangar has a huge Xenogears vibe to it :D

gameplay looks magnificent... and this game is gonna be huuuuge

So, do we if any idea when this will hit EU/US? Is it totally unreasonable to think the localisation can make it for this holiday?

Because if this will be our holiday 'replacement' for the new Zelda, I would be very happy.

google translate suggests you can download some data to your hard drive to increase loading speed. Is this old news? Nonetheless, that's cool!

They were mentioning doing something like this a few months ago I think; download some data to your HDD to alleviate some of the loading times. Glad they were able to implement it!

For a more detailed comparison:

Monster Hunter is all about knowing the monster's attack patterns down to how long do their animations last, (same with your own attacks, as you cannot cancel an attack once initiated) Frame animation is very important since you have to know when its the right moment to attack, evade, heal, etc. Monster Hunter's various attacks vary depending on the weapon and they are all performed real time, like an action game, each weapon has different combos and such.

Xenoblade (and by extension, Xenoblade X) uses a set of different "Arts" arts are the main attacks that each character has, with different effects and properties. For example Shulk has an art that does more damage if you position yourself behind and enemy and use it, while Reyn has an attack that does more damage if he uses it right after another one of his arts.

The characters in Xenoblade have automatic attacks, which are done automatically (duh) once you are close enough to the enemy, these do little damage, but have some uses like it helps fill up Shulk's Talent Gauge. Every character in Xenoblade had a different talent gauge, think of it as a special move, Riki could steal things, Melia restack her spells, Shulk got a different set of monado arts once activated, etc.

Every time an art is used there's a cooldown period where you have to wait to use it again, in X there's system that allows you to wait double the cooldown time to make your art more powerful when used again. Arts all have different properties, and some work best when combined with another. A common example is that one of Shulk's arts can inflict "break" status on an enemy, which allows them to be inflicted with the "Topple" status (makes them fall down) Shulk doesn't have any art that inflicts topple (unless he switches to monado arts with his talent gauge) but his most of his teamates do, so Shulk has to rely on his teamates and vice-versa to fully use the potential of everyone's arts.

So basically MH is an action game where knowing your own attacks and the monster's is the key (preparation with the right items is also very important) down to the animation of each attack, while Xenoblade's combat functions more like that of an RPG with some MMO elements. Both games emphasize teamwork (although the first xenoblade was singleplayer, so you had to rely on the AI)

Thanks for the detailed explanation! I'm more and more interested in this game now :)

So let's think about this for a second. We get our armour in cutscenes like the last game. But we'll also get our customized mech in the cutscenes? I better make this as Gundam as possible.

This looks too good. The devs were kind of limited by wii but still made an amazing game. This is more like it.
I doubt it but hopefully the online missions have some sort of difficulty. Xenoblade was kind of a cakewalk, but that's ok because it's single player.

All this info makes your head want to explode into confetti. I love the customization options for the mechs and the online co-op missions are a nice addition. Yeah, the music is probably going to be a mixed bag. English rap and J-pop music consisting of nonsensical lyrics are cheesy. Some strange choices there, Sawano. Give us more atmospheric environmental music feels.
Go ahead and listen
Plenty of samples for you to decide if you will like it or not.

Yup, just take a look at the screens I posted (up there).
You can even name it :)

You need to start by downloading the basic/field data pack if you want the effects. You can also download the others if you so desire, will further reduce load times. Should appear under DLC in the listing for XCX on the JP eShop. Obviously, this is only necessary for people going physical.

Argh I've been resisting putting an external drive to my Wii U (It's cluttered enough with accessories and has as gazillion wires connected to it but I have no more space in my internal memory for these performance updates even if I went physical! I assume they would increase as well due to patches :(

I don't understand why you have to download those packs instead of installing them from the disk. It doesn't make sense at all
