Grand Theft Auto V Steam pre-load is live

Was at around 1.3 - 1.7mb/s. Took about…9 hours?
I am really hoping there isn't additional patches the second it goes live (There will be), or my data limit back home is going to commit suicide.
There's a 58MB day 1 patch I think, which compared to the 60GB you would have just downloaded should be no problem.

Ooh, ooh, I got one.

GTA V PC |OT| You know I've been waiting for this game for a lot of years. And I got out alive.

...It's the quote TV Tropes put at the top of it's page. Nyeh.

if performance threads ever get titles then the GTA V (PC) one should be...

"You tell me exactly what you want, and I will very carefully explain to you why it cannot be" (Simeon)

GTA V PC |OT| Why did I move here? I guess it was the graphics.

GTA V PC |OT| Rockstar game services are unavailable

GTA V PC |OT| Two years is enough to visit console. Come to PC (reference)

Damn, I'm missing Steam now - the download from Rockstar is total shit. It started ok yesterday but kept disconnecting for a few minutes at a time. Now I see it actually failed entirely halfway through last night.

I'm sure it'll be done at some point this weekend, but after resuming the download it's half the speed it was yesterday.

Still debating on whether I want this game or not. 60 bucks for a game I already played is steep, but at the same time, mods and the ability to turn off the cops sounds tasty.

Move your depotcache folder (located in the steamapps folder) to a different drive and then drop a symbolic link to it from where you moved it so Steam doesn't know anything is amiss. Once the game has unpacked you can delete the link and move the folder back to its usual place.

Move your depotcache folder to a different drive -> Right-click it -> Select "Pick link source" -> Navigate back to steamapps -> right-click in the empty space -> Hover over "Drop as..." -> Select "Symbolic link".
You're awesome. Thanks for this!

This one is great. Especially if the PC version has been the lead platform all along (unlikely).

Has this been posted today: PC Gamer - Rockstar talk 4K, PC performance and more

They seem to indicate that the PC version was in parallel with the original console versions but the bulk of the work focused on those consoles. However the work they had on the PC version around 64bit and DX11, informed the work on the new console versions which then ramped up the work on the PC version. So basically the PC version was it's own thing

So i want to get the game on my SSD.

I got 120GB SSD (C:) and 500GB HDD (D:). I have preloaded Steam version of GTA V on my D: drive.

1. Its tuesday so i run the game for the first time to install it.
2. In windows i copy game folder to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common
3. I click Delete local content on Steam.
4. I click Install game on Steam.
5. I should be good to go now?
Anyone know if this will work? It sounds like an easier solution.

If you have some problem to download GTA V from Social Club (like me), don't forget torrent. ;)
Rockstar's servers aren't the greatest, but I don't think they've resorted to uploading torrents to ease their bandwidth.

I'm sure you mean to get the files for your legit game with no crack (I don't even know if this is ok), but you should be careful mentioning torrents, don't want people getting the wrong idea. ;)

You don't want to be banned for pirating a game you've paid for anyway.

I have downloaded the game in 3 hours with a torrent. It's definitely better than Social Club.

Ow yes of course. It's just the retail version, not a pirated or cracked version.

Can't wait !

I hope it does. Just to add one thing, someone told me on other forum that i should close Steam before copying the game files to C:. Don't know if its necessary but i'm going to do it anyway just to be sure.

My download keeps losing connection and won't reconnect unless i pause and restart which means i have to sit here and babysit a fucking download link.

Rockstar needs to end their shitty social club.

Well, I ended up making symbolic link as per JaceC's suggestion. It was pretty easy to do, and that tool might come handy in the future. If for some reason it doesn't work, I'll try drouz's suggestion. And yay! My SSD is back to having 159 GB free. I don't think having Steam open matters as it's not accessing the folders atm.

Was reading on reddit yesterday that some website noticed how not only the textures prettier on PC, but there's actually new assets and reworked areas exclusive to pc, they mentioned an example of a pool area in some playboy-esque mansion having something like a completely different, better looking pool. Pretty sweet.

Can you link to the website that said this?

I would just install it on D:
Then use SteamTool to move it to your SSD.

It won't. The game will automatically unpack to the same library folder it was pre-loaded to, so the only way to move the pre-load data out of the way and have it unpack to your usual steamapps folder is to follow the instructions I posted.

Edit: Given you quoted said instructions I assume you're in the same situation as Mart (already pre-loaded but don't have the space to unpack). If, however, you have the space to unpack the game but want it on a different drive, then do this instead:

NB: Let's assume you've pre-loaded to D:\Games\Steam2 but want to move the game to E:\Steam
1) Wait until the game has decrypted
2) Move the installation folder from D:\Games\Steam2\steamapps\common to E:\Steam\steamapps\common
3) Move the appmanifest_271590.acf file from D:\Games\Steam2\steamapps to E:\Steam\steamapps
4) Restart Steam

In doing the above you won't have to fiddle around with symbolic links, and most importantly it saves a lot of time compared to reinstalling the game as you won't have to wait for Steam to verify 60GB of data.

I would just install it on D:
Then use SteamTool to move it to your SSD.

He's already pre-loaded the game so it's going to unpack to his D drive, anyway. But, yes, he can move it after the fact.

No, the thing he quoted will definitely work.

But it would just be easier to use Steam Mover instead of moving it manually from D to C.

Edit: Wait, read that wrong. Thought he would start the install first and then move it.

Man I really can't wait to see this edition of the game in motion. Makes me wish I had a PC that can run it. I'm excited for you all.

Looking forward to see what mods are released including who gets a VR mod out first.

I just bought it for 60. I'm poor but screw all the VPN / Hola weirdness....

Downloading at 3.8 Mbps which is extremely fast for my standards. Come Monday night I'll be ready and waiting

Anyone else get the retail version? I got it on Amazon but it looks like they won't deliver till Tuesday evening.

Should I cancel and get the Steam version? How would that affect modding down the road?

really want to play it on Monday when it's released. Ugh....

So I prepurchased it using the steam mobile app just now. It says it will be available on the 13th and also labeled it as GTA pre-purchase tier 3.

Anyone know anything about the tiers. Also weird that it says it will be available on the 13th.

Steam versions are the same as retail when it comes to modding, just a different install directory.
