Marvel's AKA Jessica Jones | Production Thread

I fully expected a normal looking guy in a purple outfit for Purple Man. Like others have said, it would be cool if he only goes purple while using his powers or something. That would be extra creepy.

It goes like this:

Daredevil
AKA Jessica Jones
Luke Cage
Iron Fist
Defenders

It kinda bums me out that we won't see Daredevil again until the Defenders. Knowing that we need 3 whole seasons of other properties before that means it could be quite some time.

Hopefully the show is a smashing success and they put Season 2 on the fast track

I thought they were doing 2 shows this year and 2 shows next year?

Considering we'll be getting two shows a year, we'll probably only have a two-ish year wait instead of 3. If they can push Defenders out at the end of next year (which I find unlikely, but you never know), we might get it even earlier than that.

They are going to re-release Alias under the title of the show this fall and winter, I am pretty sure we will see Jessica this fall on Netflix.

Again, we don't know when we'll see DD again. The shows so far have their own casts and teams. If DD is successful, it makes no sense to have DeKnight & co. sit on their asses for 2 years.

This as well. Nobody knows anything so all we can go about are their announced plans. Hopefully we'll get another season of Daredevil soon but even if we don't I will be okay with it.

Yeah, so it won't be 3 years was my point.

If they follow 2 seasons per year, then we still won't see Daredevil again until the first half of 2017. It might not seem like that long in movie terms, but that's still twice as long as most TV show turnarounds.

I'm hoping for the above, DeKnight and the cast did a good enough job for them to green light Season 2 even if it falls outside of the initial 60 episode order.

Yup

Makes no sense to wait 2+ years for a proper Daredevil Season 2.

I hope so. Netflix doesn't share numbers but it seems like Daredevil is all anyone has been talking about this weekend.

I'm actually interested to hear what Purple Man's powers sound like. In the comics I've read with him in, his power usage is denoted by the words in the speech bubble going purple. What do purple words sound like, I wonder...

Edit: Looking at Purple Man's wiki, it looks like it's done with pheromones, so it might all be down to Tennant just giving people creepy knowing looks when he says certain things.

Yeah, word of mouth has been crazy on my side. I met with friends on Saturday and two of them were raving about it (I had watched 3 episodes and they watched 5) and the ones who hadn't started the show yet got very interested. Then on Sunday my brother and his wife also mentioned they were having a blast (they watched 3 episodes and I was on episode 7).

Everyone said they got way more interested in the oncoming Netflix-Marvel shows too despite knowing jack about the characters. Hopefully the following series will also deliver like this. If this whole thing keeps the same level of quality it will be nuts.

Yup yup. Daredevil is now the Iron Man out Netflix. They aren't gonna sit on that when it could be money coming in and when the crew could fall apart in the intervening time without work. I bet we'll be hearing about who's cast as Elektra and Daredevil before too long.

Plus DD will probably be in Jessica Jones. He plays a role in Alias and she's in Daredevil at the same time.

Really good decision on Netflix and Marvel's part to lead with Daredevil. He's really Marvel's biggest crime fighter after Spidey and is the best way to introduce Kingpin.

Will the story be about Jessica gaining the will to resist him when he resurfaces?

It'll have to be something different then how it went down in Alias:
Jean Grey left a sort of telepathic failsafe in Jessica's mind in case the Purple Man ever returned. The exact details are better left out in case you decide to ever read Alias.

That was a typical shitty Bendis deus ex machina resolution, so I certainly hope Rosenberg et al. come up with something quite different.

Can't smell the pheromones, can't hear the words, time for an ass whupping.

Should I be getting my hopes up after watching Daredevil? I really wasn't thinking much about this show, but now, like others here that finished watching, I find myself looking forward to it. Same directors/writers for all four heroes?

Different teams. It's hard to say for certain, but I think most of these shows are going to be tonally similar (maybe with slight variances) considering they all take place in street level NY and all be together in the Defenders show.

AKA JJ will for sure be tonally similar to Daredevil. Daredevil was most influenced by the Miller and Bendis runs, which have the same dark tone as the show. Alias (what JJ is from) was written by Bendis alongside his Daredevil with some interlocking story arcs and with a similar style. I think Luke Cage and Iron Fist won't be quite as dark, but stil[l not light-hearted like the standard MCU fare.

I think the shows will link together pretty linearly - JJ will probably interact with Daredevil/Murdock, Luke Cage will feature in her show, and then Luke will link up with Iron Fist.

Wonder why they are doing Cage if he's a major player in Jones and Iron Fist. Why not skip it OR make Iron Fist part of the Cage series?

Maybe he just plays a much smaller part.

Likely. They are "just" friends.

And I think this is good. Give me all dat Iron Fist Lore.

Perfect opportunity to give a black guy his own leading series. Not saying that's the sole reason, but it definitely helps mold their decision. And I love it. We'll get a chance to see how a black hero on the streets is treated. I expect to see A LOT of focus on the industrial prison complex and how communities have been destroyed by the system time and time again.

Will Iron Fist be like Mortal Kombat

Actually, the guy who did Mortal Kombat Rebirth and Legacy, Kevin Tancharoen, is already on Marvel's payroll. He directed the more action-heavy episodes of Agents of SHIELD this season, as his sister is one of the showrunners.

Comic-wise, Cage is probably the glue that sticks the other three together.

Daredevil is he most popular, so he goes first. I would've done Cage 2nd, as he flows into Jessica Jones rather well. Iron Fist is the most disconnected of the three, as his origin has him in a completely different area. They just connect him up when he returns to New York. Most likely, Iron Fist will cameo in Cage's series, with his series being told mostly in flashback, much like Cage will cameo in Jessica Jones.

I wonder if we will see Matt Murdock cameo in Jessica Jones or Luke Cage though. Also not to derail much but is Cage's only power super strength?

After Daredevil, I'm very much looking forward to this. I'm not at all familiar with Jessica Jones, but I've heard good things about it.

Agreed all around.

Alias minor spoiler:
He'll probably appears on JJ for a couple of episodes when Jessica get into some legal troubles, if it follows the comics.

His main power is unbreakable skin.

Couldn't you just kill Luke by giving him a disease somehow? Since he couldn't receive an injection?

i hope they give Cage a lot of the same "weight" Cap & Bucky had in TWS. have him maintain momentum through the action scenes and it would be a great foil to Daredevil & Iron Fist.

I'm excited for JJ, Cage and Iron Fist as I have read a few comics but I know very, very little of the characters. So, going into it I'll be an absolute newbie.

He was almost killed during the Secret Wars (IIRC) due to internal trauma. The sharpnel from a bomb may not leave a dent on him, but shockwaves are a whole different thing.

He's strong as shit, but the man can only endure so much punishment.
