Err... Yes they were? I mean the new Treks were prequel trilogy SW levels of bad. Just irredeemable in all areas of production. I'm not gonna even touch Lost...

Really lol. I can understand people not liking Star Trek Into Darkness much, but the first one is a fantastic film through and through. Makes me super confident about having JJ behind this.

Yeah I love both Star Trek JJ movies, lol @ people acting like they're agreed upon as being awful.

I don't understand why there is so much fuss over JJ in the first place. How much power can a director not named George Lucas really have on an IP as big as Star Wars?

Considering Rey is being handed the lightsaber during Luke's VO about "having the force" its a foregone conclusion that she is a Jedi/the next Jedi. Boyega may end up being a force user but that doesn't seem likely.
Or, you know, the lightsaber is being handed to lukes "sister" like the dialogue and build/outfit of the recipient seem to imply. However, other things seem to hint she may be the jedi type, such as the teaser and promo pics which seem to imply she is acrobatic. That doesn't exclude Finn though. whynotboth.gif

I don't care if he's a Jedi or not, you can have a badass character either way, but that sounds lame as shit.
I hope he isn't some intergalactic lightsaber butler.

I do think with that costume, he'd make a pretty nice Jedi though, kind of rogue like, Kyle Katarn style.
Instead of the traditional robes.

I'm pretty sure that Finn
can use the Force and will become a Jedi at some point
.

All of this Star Wars hype has made me regret never watching any of the movies. But there's so many of them that I don't know where to start and which ones are worth watching. Any tips?

There's only three, watch them in order:

Star Wars
Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi

I approve of this post...

And...

I AM HYPED....

(must be the first time in many years)

I don't think I was ever so emotional over a trailer in my life. I've had goose bumps every time I've watched the trailer. I'm 37 and grew up on Star Wars. It's like getting a old friend back.

and this...

Yeah. This isn't 100% JJ's Star Wars were talking about. This is a consortium of SW nerds putting this thing together with JJ at the helm of the first film.

I had the same question when introducing my kids (9, 7, 7) to the series. I watched all six in the order they were released (IV, V, VI, I, II, III) and they absolutely loved it. We spaced the movies out a bit, so they wouldn't be sick of it, too. We watched IV on a weeknight, V on a Saturday, then VI on a Sunday. I think we then hit the prequels about a week later, and spaced each of those almost a week apart. All in all it took about 3 weeks and the kids got a real good feel for the entire series.

Maybe put Revenge of the Sith infront of A New Hope. The other two can be discarded :-P

Seeing as ... well;

Palpatine's rise to power. Anakin going bad. Padme dying. Luke and Leia being born ... etc. All relevant to the OT.

The hope I had with the first trailer faded with this one. Can't really put my finger on why, exactly.

How about ... not getting what you'd hope you would get?

Cannot unsee. Even Tarantino wants in on the hype "honestly kinda sad Hateful 8 is gonna get crushed at the box office because of how close it's releasing to this).

Even so. Most of Into Darknesses problems were on the script level. You can thank the brilliant and talented Krutzman and Orci for that.

Completely agree, but let's face it JJ is gonna get the blame regardless.

Didn't need explaining when Star Wars came out, doesn't need it now IMO.

I understand people have issues with the prequels but this isnt good advice. You should watch them all, infact, RoTS is a good starwars film and adds alot weight to Obi, Vader and Yoda. You'll miss out on some of the best music in the saga and memorable enemies.

4,5,6,1,2,3.

To you.

As a person who was never a fan of ST, I thought the reboot was solid. There was some slippage with Into Darkness but "irredeemable in all areas of production"?

LOL..."prequel level bad"

Dat interweb hyperbole.

Skimmed the last few pages... guessing that all bets are off regarding spoilers for rumors and behind the scenes stuff? Or at least a few people strongly hinting at things. Oh well, I'll just say great trailer and be out of here.

If people are really gonna recommend the prequels at least do it the right way.

I just realized something. It didn't hit me until I had to think about it but these look nothing like the prequels. A lot more emotion and movement. Love it.

What?!

There are only six movies and only three of them are particularly relevant. Watch the original trilogy.

A New Hope
Empire Strikes Back (Greatest Movie of All Time!)
Return of the Jedi.

After that, decide if you want to watch the terrible prequels.

The designs in this movie are out of this world spectacular. I am so impressed with them, they did an amazing job with everything I've seen so far.

So in the spirit of hype for this and seeing as my wife's never seen Star Wars, we made a pact that she'll watch Episodes 1 through 6 with me in preparation for Ep.7 if I agree to watch all the Twilight movies with her. I feel I'm going to regret this lol.

Yes that includes the prequels which I still liked.

My advice is to watch them 4,5,1,2,3,6. Watching the prequels first ruins the Darth Vader reveal although most people have heard that spoiler as part of pop culture but still. Watching it in that order makes 1,2 and 3 like long flashbacks before you have Vader's redemption in 6.

Watching the trailer after about 15 times it appears to me that Boyega's character is still the lead and Daisy is already trained in the force and sort of guiding him through the picture.

Also, following that order makes the step in quality from V to VI look less steep.
