Why do people hate chalice dungeons so much? I just finished my first one and it was really good (different bosses, enemies and enviroments from the main game). Do they get boring later on?

I'm on the Lower Pthumerian Chalice and boy did the difficulty ramped up.. I feel so underleveled, but Chalice Dungeons, to me, are mini events you do in between story as to not make them tedious.

What is with the enemies AI with ladders? Esp Hunters, who are likely suppose to have the best AI (or so I assume) outside of bosses. Notice several times some enemies, esp Hunters, will just get on, get off, get on, get off ladders, even if your right above them. Had 1 hunter who was using that weapon that hurts you in 2H mode and died without me even hitting him.. lol.

Then there are the ranges on hunters. Move far enough away, they will ignore you. Even if you then follow them back. Love how some will always return to their spot, you know, facing away from you, so you can do a vertical attack and then visceral attack them!

Ever get a hunter off it trail by knocking it into another area? It will act lost and confused and basically let you attack you.

I wonder if this will be fixed in the next few patches. At least hopefully the ladder issue will be fixed. lol

imo a lot of the 'cheese' wins in Souls/BB games are put there intentionally for those that need them. Safe zones, etc.

Here's a quick video I made of the glitch in the clinic that can yield a ton of blood echoes. Combined with the clinic skip (https://youtu.be/wzhsYPv9aUM) you can get as many blood echoes as you want at the very start of the game, prior to encountering your first boss.

Details in description, but the basic goal is to kill the dogs in their cages, then enter the clinic and drag the "magic" spot where you get the dog-ghosts echoes to the door by the lantern by forcing a few zone transitions. Eventually it will stick and you can quickly cross a line over and over very easily to get 2k in about a second.

In the video, I cut a section out where I was trying to pin down the sweet spot, but on a fresh character that proved unnecessary. In the back door, out the front, back to the NPC and then it sticks.

https://youtu.be/vZIFw6fEPkI

Let me know if it doesn't work for you and (if possible) what step I missed and I'll update the description for others. Possible steps include: triggering the echoes on the far side of the gurney closest to the door one or more times, and positioning the camera so you can see out the front of the clinic at some point while setting up the main spot.

From what I saw of them, they don't change a whole lot. I didn't like that I had to keep going back for materials, don't like grinding that much. I like the idea, though and hope they capitalize on it in the future.

Very samey throughout. You start to see the same rooms over and over again.

If I had to do it all over again, I'd mix the chalice progression in with the main game instead of slogging through it at the very end of my playthrough.

I actually have no idea why I'm fretting over these glyph code shenanigans, as I really don't like playing the dungeons. It's just that I've platinum'd yet want to keep playing...haha.

Ok, glyph code if anyone wants an uncanny hunter axe: cck44zy7

It's in the third layer, in the pre-layer bonus area.

The dungeon also has a blood stone chunk and a shit ton of saint's wrists (I lost count but I think I got around eight of them).

It's a foetid hintertomb root chalice dungeon.

Are they somehow related? They are both Reindeer-like beasts, both related to the church, have the same soundtrack... Either they are related, or maybe all high ranked church people who are infected turn into reindeer-like monsters.

Honestly, I was struggling with it too. I finally killed it with the last shot of my Blunderbuss with no blood vials left. Threaded Cane really helped, and of course patience.

I tried my cane for a bit but did no better. My best runs have been with blades. I can get him to about 20% then wheels fall off

I've only got to 3rd level Pthumerian and I'm already fed up. It's so incredibly uninspiring. The only thing that carries the concept is the gameplay. Everything else is missing. No lore, no meaningful exploration, no fun/crazy traps, etc. I don't know if it changes, but the experience feels very half-baked.

Yeah my Blade of Mercy and I are wrecking ass...Ive kept my LHB as my second and the one time I had to use it as the Blade needed repair I almost died on regular mobs...its too slow in comparison. In the time it takes to do three slow swings with LHB I can do more damage overall with 8-9 Blade swing/combos. The stun lock is slightly better (it seems) with LHB, but htere is still stun potential with the blade. People just get used to waht they get used to, but this gmae is awesome in that all weapons are fairly equal in viability.

Yeah I like how every weapon is actually great.

Well after few they get somewhat repetitive. Would almost rather have just boss rush version.

I think my guy is too good that the game is a bit too easy...

Basically my holy blade V. Attack get a crazy boost from an adept blood gem so I do 500+ damage, which wipes out most enemies, but I also have the "Heir" and Moon Rune which gives me more blood echoes in general and more blood echos for V. Attacks....so basically I am drowning in souls and am not at level 62 and only just beat the boss

I would just beat BSB. If you dodge his attacks and get behind him his AI goes in a cyclic pattern, even in beast mode at the end. ITs not a 12 hour glitch...you can do this on every incarnation of BSB through the whole game. ALso try using some pungent blood bombs. Another option is to hire
Alfred
, although I dont know exactly where to pick him up?

Bloodtinge? Most parry opportunities are eother damage counters or spot specific...the damamge counter will go up faster with bloodtinge.

Do you know if any gun is better than the other for parrying? The boss I'm fighting barely gets parried at all. He sure as shit, parried me from range with a blunderbuss and then visceraled me. Yesterday,
Gerhman
did this 3 times in a row.

I tried the blunderbuss after using the pistol,
Gerhman
was parried for a visceral attack twice, just not sure if I got lucky or BB is more ideal for parrying. Throughout the game, I've been using the pistol. Not really skilled at timing anymore, possibly, so any boss that could be parried reasonably, has to be done the old fashioned way.

Hope my spoiler tags work. On ps4 and copied the template in your quoted post.

Just beat Ebrietas. Took a while to figure out how to dodge her charges consistently but now shes dead. My hands were shaking after - such an intense fight.

You already said it yourself.
They are high ranked members of the church, for Vicar Amelia it is pretty obvious. The cleric beast on the other side is not that obvious, but it is most probably ludwig himself. The very first church hunter himself and captain of the hunt, wich also makes him a high ranking church member. And as we learn from the game itseld members of the church are turned into the most hideous of beasts..

That is severely overleveled. You're not even half way through the game. I think I was around level 40 at that point.

Protip: Don't backstab an enemy that has picked up your blood echoes. They'll be so surprised that their glowy blue eyes pop right out of their eyesockets and just kind of start floating in the air.

I don't think I'll be getting these echoes back. :(

Think of the tombstones as slots. You really only need to remove a chalice when you run out of tombstones.
Oh, that's helpful. So you can pick which ones to keep around, for good farming and whatnot. just have to remember which is which...

I've been playing this game using Astro headset and after playing I have been hearing the sound of the lantern in my head... I'm either losing my mind or the sound is stuck in my brain..maybe both lol

Yeah, but I havent been grinding on purpose at all.... I have beaten so far (dont remember all the names)

-cleric beast
-Father g
-Blood Starved
-Clinic Nurse
-Praying/crying woman
-electric skeleton thing
-the witches
-the yaharam trio

and got stuck on the
skeleton king in the snowy castle
before I headed back to look more in the forbidden woods

Yeah, I keep a list and mark off which ones I've completed (or have made before, for the purpose of glyphs...don't ask...haha). Sometimes there's an easily accessible enemy that will drop ritual blood or tomb mold, so I'll denote that and keep the chalice around, as the enemies will respawn but the loot chests will not.

Just make sure you've looted all the possible key items from a chalice before removing it. Sometimes there's secret unique items, important materials etc. Check a wiki.

I once found a pair of eyes floating in the air after falling off a cliff. Proof that the sky and the cosmos are one! There's no way to get them back as far as I can tell either.

Sure first few times they're great, but then you see that it's practically the same environment over and over again. If your goal is to get the platinum then yeah they're tedious; you basically have to do the chalices in order by depth across all 4 (or maybe only 3 depending on where you are in the campaign) types in order to get the trophy.

As soon as I got my chalice trophy I never wanted to touch them again.

Ah okay. I assume
Cainhurst
is why you're so overleveled. You must've picked up a lot of souls there. But still, it seems too much. I'd assume you'd be mid-50s at best but you're still quite a bit above that.

Can't you use Bold Hunters mark to warp back and make all enemies respawn?

Losing blood echoes suck, I once lost 200k because I forgot to call the elevator back down and fell down the hole :(

I hate the Rom fight so much.

Question: earlier I setup 3 chalice and actually started 1. Then I left, now I try to enter any of them and it says I need a holy chalice?

What build/weapon are you using now? I used LHB on the first go but now trying skill stuff and they don't seem to make the game that much harder.

Skill/Bloodtinge.
Ritterpallasch and chicake.
+9 and +8.
And Evelyn +7.

Being able to stagger big enemies and especially being able to hit bosses in the head to get them down for a visceral made things a lot easier.

How the fk do you dodge Rom's missile attacK. Jesus christ.

Don't move, unlock the camera, look up at the missiles and dodge in the appropriate direction as they're about to hit. With a bit of practice you can do it every time. Usually dodging in the opposite direction the second time works, but the missiles seem to have a random spread. Sometimes you only need one dodge to clear all of them. The problem with this method is that it doesn't leave you much time to fight the adds. You can also just lock on and spam dodge in one direction (3-4 dodges). Doesn't work 100% of the time, but if you equip all arcane resist gear (+ the rune) you should be fine.

Well now you have Evelyn for hitting bosses in the head and opening them for viscerals.

Man, I never would've been able to find that
Upper Cathedral Ward
key without a guide, since that fucking particular area is so stressful and panicky, you're just glad to be done with it. You're not even thinking about going back through the area with a fine tooth comb. At least I got found the summons for
Cainurst Castle
. That much I was able to stumble upon by myself.

They get better.

I think some people just only enjoy story stuff. I love chalice dungeons.

My Bloodborne bundle arrived today ... This game ... It's so good. Played for 3h straight.

And surprisingly hard ... Just finished DS2 and Demon's Souls and I'm having a hard time (this is a good thing ... means I need to get gud again^^).

Have to go playing again ... Bye :P

How does this work? Like, what is it that's allowing you to stagger big enemies and hit bosses in the head?

I didn't know that was something you could really influence, aside from weapon range/spread/speed making different counters easier to pull off.
