Bloodborne |OT+++| ...and so the Nightly Hunt continues

So I'm currently right after the Shadow fight in NG+ and still can't get enough of this game. Not including root chalices (although, including some), I've done all of Hintertomb, Pthumeru up to Lower, and for Loran I've only done Ailing, the first chalice. I haven't done any of Isz.

A few questions- what are sinister chalices and what do they change? They seem to have the same depth/difficulty, so I'm not sure what they chance. Also, what do the optional offering materials change about a dungeon if you use them?

And finally, fuck Bloodletting Beast. One of the more, if not the most annoying bosses in the game between Chalices and story. Vicar Amelia is up there too. BSB is a cakewalk once you have some stamina to work with, and I've made short work of him in NG+ and every chalice encounter.

With just their bare hands, no.

With the gun, yes you could kill Father G, but you;d have to get lucky with the timing if it'd be your first time, so still not very likely.

I'm asking because there's a bit of a controversy in Japan about BB where a video game journalist is claiming that's what exactly he did.
People are speculating they didn't play the game at all and probably reviewing the game based on youtube videos.

I could believe if it wasn't the first try. Unless this person is some sort of super good player who just knows how to play every game by just touching the controller.

Got my platinum yesterday! :D

I ended up overlevelling though (lvl 156 I think) because I didn't know what else to do with all the blood echoes from the chalice dungeons. :/

Time to get my other two characters to NG+ I guess.

Died to watchdog in the defile dungeon when it had ~2% health left. I feel numb..
That's frustrating. I fought him for probably 2 hours straight before I finally got him. None of the tactics I saw in Youtube videos worked for me.

You will get him, but be prepared for some more tough bosses after that. Not an easy Platinum.

I know the feeling. Just keep pressing on. If you beat it tonight, we could co-op the next layer together ;o

Exactly who I'm fighting now. Got her under 10% twice in a row now. Just gotta be super careful then >_>

I executed everything flawlessly up until the very end... only for it to 1 shot me with its fucking leap attack.

You don't have to wait, you can get it in the Chalice Dungeons or by triggering the third ending and teleporting out of the final boss fight.

dumb argument. you get it after you've beaten all of NG if you go by story mode, and it's at least as deep into chalice dungeons. doesn't change what the actual problem is, playing a MASSIVE chunk of the game without your weapon of choice. the distinction between ng and ng+ in that sense is dumb.

Hey do you think it's possible for someone playing BB for the first time to beat either Gascoigne or the other beast boss with his bare hands without dying once?

Well I wouldnt say its impossible since almost everything is possible in a vague sense. It would be very very very difficult. That person would have to be perfect with every evades and attacks. And I would believe it would take a very long time since you barely do damage with your hands.

I couldnt do it.

Congrats I'm so close, just need to finish off the find Defiled Chalice boss then I'll be in the home stretch

I wish I didn't have to wait until ng+ to play around with Burial Blade :(

There are two ways to get it in NG, the first one is the chalice dungeons, & the other one is
go for the true ending, after beating Gehrman use a bold hunter's mark to leave the area before beating Moon Presence

Do you know if any gun is better than the other for parrying? The boss I'm fighting barely gets parried at all. He sure as shit, parried me from range with a blunderbuss and then visceraled me. Yesterday,
Gerhman
did this 3 times in a row.

I tried the blunderbuss after using the pistol,
Gerhman
was parried for a visceral attack twice, just not sure if I got lucky or BB is more ideal for parrying. Throughout the game, I've been using the pistol. Not really skilled at timing anymore, possibly, so any boss that could be parried reasonably, has to be done the old fashioned way.

Hope my spoiler tags work. On ps4 and copied the template in your quoted post.

I dont think it matters....you get range withthe pistols, or short range but wider spread of the blunderbus. If you have the str use the cannon...but it uses all your bullets in two shots. Happy medium is the repeating pistol??!? lol

Been stuck on Forbidden woods for so long, I think this is the part of the game that is slowly making me not want to play because I'm not having fun. Finished all other souls games and never had such a problem.

Don't be afraid to run past things.

What is bad about Forbidden Forest? I really liked that area but it seems to be generally hated area of the game. You can also just run through most of the encounters since most enemies give up chasing you pretty fast.

In hindsight it's not too bad. But the first run through it's incredibly confusing, and exploring is dangerous because there are "hidden" enemies absolutely everywhere. And if you try to explore, chances are you are gonna get lost because while there are landmarks - they are generally hard to learn because you are focusing on the ground trying to spot enemies.

Edit: Myself, I am stuck in Cainhurst Castle. I can't get through the first courtyard, these enemies are just way too hard. Might be because the Blade of Mercy doesn't stagger like I am used to with Ludwig's Holy Blade.

It's my third favorite area after the unseen village & cainhurst, I don't know why people hate it tbh, it was incredibly tense.

Although I really loved tower of latria, maybe that's why, they're very tense & creepy.

I got about 40 insight that I need to spend before that Brainsucker boss steals it.

Are there some items from the insight messenger that are recommended to get? Chalice materials? Useful items on NG+?

Up until the first shortcut it was pretty straight foward where you had to go. After that it gets somewhat confusing but I managed to find progress almost immediately. Enemies were easily visible aside from couple snakes that were in bushes. Mashing lock-on helps alot when dealing with new areas.

Bolt and fire paper. I don't think chalice materials are worth the insight unless you are just short on something.

I only buy items from there (bolt, fire paper) but you can buy whatever seems important to you.

Buy all available armor sets, if you have all of them just buy chalice materials.

Omg wtf i just got killed by some hooded figure and I've been teleported somewhere else. I was at the cathedral ward! I have no blood vials!

I liked it a lot too. The design of the snake enemies creeped me out, and the fact that they could creep up on you kept me on my toes.

The fact that you could get lost so easily contributed to the atmosphere. The level design compliments the atmosphere they were going for well. It's supposed to be like a fairytale dark forest that you get lost in. I hate it when games try to make a level like that, then destroy everything by making it too easy to navigate. Takes me out of the illusion.

That area did the same to me. Summoned two hunters and powered through it (after the shortcut) to never come back.

Anyone got tips for Fr. Gas in beast form. I can pretty much get him to beast form easily without taking a hit, but then he demolishes me. The camera work is shite in this game and the transition from locked, not locked it awful. But I feel you need to do it when finding a new fight area for his second form.

Anyway, I've tried dragging him to the top of the stairs and fighting like a rush to each end of the walkway. He's always left at like ~10% health before killing me. Frustrating as I know I'm not getting something about this. I've tried using the music box but fuck me that takes ages, it's just not worth the risk. When he gets one pummel in, he just juggles you to death. Stats are I think 15 VIT, 16 END, 16 SKL which I've levelled. I'm at level 21 overall.

Using threaded cane +2 and blunderbuss for info.

Also, where can I see how many bloodshard I have on my person, they don't seem to appear in my inventory or else I've missed them. I'm not far off TC+3 but dunno if I need 2 or 3 shards......when I'm grinding vials.

I still dont know how to unlock the defiled dungeons you guys are talking about :s
Which are the ones need for the plat?

Pthumeru
Cental Pthumeru
Lower Pthumeru
Ailing Loran for ingredient for defiled
Defiled Pthumeru
Either Lower Loran, Great Isz or NG+ for ingredient for final chalice.
Great Pthumeru Ihyl

The thing that makes it frustrating is how easy it is to die and get lost, the first bit (the village area) I found fine but the snake bit is what I'm struggling with you can die so quickly and what made it worse was losing 90k souls from looking into a pit and then a snake came behind hit me and pushed me in and I died(The misses was laughing so much because it made me jump) seriously From Nailed the atmosphere in this game.

Pthumeru Chalice from Blood-Starved Beast --> Central Pthumeru Chalice from Watch Dog of the Old Lords in Pthumeru Chalice -->Lower Pthumeru Chalice from the boss in the Central Pthumeru Chalice --> Defiled Chalice from Bloodletting Beast in the Lower Pthumeru Chalice --> Great Pthumeru Ihyll Chalice from Amygdala in the Defiled Chalice.

The issues is the materials require are located in some of the other Chalice dungeons such as the Lower Loran Chalice which contains Red Jelly needed to make the Great Pthumeru Ihyll Chalice dungeon.

He is very easily parry. Kinda have to get a idea on when to shoot. I actually finish him before his transformation by parrying him a few times. This might help you get an idea on when to shoot :P forgive my scrubby ways since it was my second attempt at parrying him and there are a few screw ups. The music box will stun him, but it also makes him transform faster. Molotov can help but he is very fast. Stay somewhat close to prevent him from doing his leaping attack, I wanna say about 2-3 back steps away? Hit and run as well.
