LTTP: MGS V ground zeroes..gameplay is amazing

finally bought ground zeroes on PSN and started to play it..wow the gameplay mechanics and control is some of the best i have ever seen, everything just feels "right".. walking, crawling, every intricate part of the game works perfectly. i see the only criticisms of the game have been the length, because the gameplay is top notch

in fact, i can't think of many games of 2014-2015 that have as good as gameplay as Ground Zeroes had... this is definitely the best playing mgs game, and one of the best playing games out their

It is outstanding, the movement and everything feels so natural and realistic.
Too bad the aiming on the pad is still a bit hard but this is only gonna be a problem in Metal Gear Online since who the hell gets into firefights in MGS anyway. (Except Boss fights)
I still need to 100% it... I wish...

Im excited, I didnt play it yet, but after playing 4 metal gear titles solely for the history and finding the gameplay to be awful in all of them I have to say this must be a very nice change of pace.

Other than driveclub that mgs5 demo is my most played ps4 title. Make your own fun in the world and the game time is mostly limited by your imagination in sense. I had a ton of fun with that little demo. Can't wait for TPP.

it really plays so well, even newcomers to the series can wrap their head around those controls easily & execute cool stealth things

not having to mess with octocamo/camo index or anything like that is great too, it feels more "pure" like, you can tell if you are hiding behind something, and you don't even miss any kind of radar/vision cones with the tagging system

My first impressions were a little sour as I felt some aspects of the control and design are regressive compared to MGS4. And though I still miss some stuff, after I adjusted I was hooked.

Steam says I have 18 hours on Ground Zeroes PC. And I'd have at least half that on the PS4 build too.

So...yeah. Clearly I like it.

Didn't realize this was such a standout aspect of mgs5.

Hype for full release continues to grow...

Doesn't it release right around battlefront?

Battlefront will be released on November.

MGS5: TPP will be released on 1st September.

Agree with gameplay being excellent. And it can be further improved by the time the full game is released.

That couple month buffer will be nice (if battlefront ends up being worth anything, that is)

Need to play this still, it's not very long right? Like if I just want to do 1 playthrough

main mission should take ~1 hour if you take your time. If you run through all the different missions, you'll get 5-10 hours, depending on the difficulty.

And you can do all those missions in 1 playthrough? I usually do every sidequest I find in games

They aren't really sidequests. The game is set up like this: there is one sandbox-y base, and one main mission that sets up TPP. Then, you have some side missions in the same area, with different objectives.

MGSV is my most anticipated game, still.

Even the controlls are good now. They were always horrific in MGS games imo.

Well with dying i think most missions will take people a bit longer. But if you don't die then the core game is really short, yes.

It took me an hour and a half, because I'm absolutely terrible at it. I died a ridiculous number of times and killed far more people than was reasonable. I'm terrible at stealth and no matter how sneaky I thought I was being, it would always somehow end up in a firefight.

Good thing the mechanics were tight enough that it was actually a viable option for completing the mission.

Despite the cost not matching up with the amount of content, I enjoyed Ground Zeroes quite a bit. It's essentially a vertical slice or demo of the full game and shows what you can expect to see more of when Phantom Pain releases.

What struck me the most was how everything came together. The refined gameplay mechanics and controls, and the Fox Engine's ability to render a decently sized area in such detail at a comfortable 60 FPS (on PS4). After completing the main mission (took me a little over an hour IIRC) I spent the rest of my time doing the side missions and just messing around with the enemy soldiers since you can interact with them in some interesting ways.

Combined with Kojima's idiosyncrasies as the head of the project Phantom Pain will definitely be something to experience.

Will Ground Zeroes be included when you buy MGSV? I was under the impression that it was standalone.

It is standalone. There will be some content in the form of unique Mother Base soldiers in TPP and maybe a few other goodies but...it's standalone. Although I don't think anyone would be surprised to have Konami put it in as a pre-credits sequence ala Virtuous Mission...which could be kinda cool, actually.

That said although the pacing would feel a bit weird...
GZ Coma > MGS V TPP Title Sequence > Wakes up from 9 year coma
I feel as if GZ was something Konami ultimately forced Kojima into taking out from the game to prop up the hype since it was still...18 months away or so.

It did get my hyped for TPP, though. It's a true evolution from the series in a way MGS4 failed to be and while it could probably control a tad more intuitively it provides a wealth of options and routes to the point were if KojiPro can replicate that design multiple times in an open-world environment...it's gonna be so good.

Yes ! best gameplay mechanics in the series, never had trouble playng the old mgs games, but Gz controls the best and i cant wait to fulton sheeps and invade your motherbases !

I took 3 hours on my first main mission run. Didn't die, but I went around the whole island and took the atmosphere in while covert. Great game.

Loved it, but the camera isn't great in some tight spaces, and I could have done with a touch more stickiness in cover.

Amazing and addicting gameplay,i´ve sunk 40 hours in this game and still love it.
My only complaint is that the cover system is kinda flawed,i wanted something like in Deus Ex:HR.

It was simply fantastic, felt like something Resident Evil 6's combat team would come up with.

The sense of weight is so damn good.

The gameplay is easily the best in the series, and there's very little about it that I don't like. I do miss the camo index, because I like to be able to quantify how well hidden I am from the enemy. However, reflex mode negates that a fair amount, and I think it was actually a necessary inclusion for the more organic way you have to hide from enemies.

Shooting feels great, CQC always does what I want it to, crawling is finally brilliant... the list goes on. Phantom Pain is going to be unbelievably good, and I expect the scope of the gameplay to be a big reason for it.... and not just cause i'm gonna' fulton the shit out of everything.

The gameplay is something I've always had to overlook when playing Metal Gear - with the exception of 4 which I think is incredible - to the extent that I'll play MGS4 on Extreme for fun, and all other Metal Gear Solid games on the easiest setting just because the controls piss me off so much. Finally having the gameplay sorted out is a great accomplishment for the series.

I don't understand how people think MGS has awful gameplay. Or when people say "MGS is all about the story. Just play it on easy mode."
No, the gameplay is better than the story. I've never felt bored in a MGS game other than maybe MGS4's later acts. But for games like Uncharted, after one round of shooting-puzzle-climbing-cutscene I get bored. Opinions I guess.

But yeah, GZ was the best "game" of 2014. Only thing that I didn't like is basewide alerts. If its only in GZ, then I don't mind, but hopefully its not in TPP (or at least something is changed.)
And while I liked the codec, I think the way GZ has it is better in the end.

AND the standing-to-crawl animation is worth $30 alone. :^)

Can't believe I got it for $6, I would've paid twice that!

Seriously tho, such a fun little sandbox game. I almost never pay full price for games, but I may just do for Phantom Pains.

I feel like I'm a bit crazy, because I thought the gameplay was actually terrible, and by far the worst the series has seen. For instance, everything involving cover just feels so busted.

The L1 context sensitive radio conversations are way more intuitive and don't interrupt gameplay.

Yeah, and they also suck way more. The codec was a great way to have the main character interact with a supporting cast while ostensibly on a solo mission.

A missing codec alone is pretty close to a deal-breaker for me.

Agreed, the gameplay is fantastic. Love the run into a diving crawl animation, so good. At the very least, I have 20 hours logged into that game, considering I 100%'d it and completed every mission with an S rank and zero kills. So satisfying getting that last achievo.

Going to sink so much time into TPP.

Agreed, if MGSV can give us a full game of what GZ promised (and it looks like it will), then we're talking all-time greatness here, GZ was that fucking good. I was blown away by its sheer quality and played it more than most releases that year.

TPP seems like it will be Kojima's Magnum Opus
