Marvel will unveil another gay character tomorrow

Marvel Time Travel doesn't work like that unless you are using Doom's time platform

yeah, I can see a lot of people in the LGBT community taking issue with the fact he is gay but the other, older iceman is not... how do they explain that?

Besides the fact that they're bringing it up in the panel below your post, well... for some people, their sexuality is a fluid and can change over time. Or maybe older Iceman never confronted his sexuality and lives in denial. Or, maybe this younger Iceman really does believe he's gay deep down, and has convinced himself he is, but is still figuring himself out.

probably due to the pretty loud outcry from people about the lack of diversity in media(race, orientation, et cetetra). The comic companies are trying to make it known to that audience they're trying
 
I always suspected as much but now BMB is making it official. Good, I say. Even though I wouldn't say Iceman is "A" list status, he is an old character created in the '60s.

Now, let's hope this sticks after Secret Wars.
 
Yeah, one of the silly things about this is that Marvel has plenty of properly written openly gay characters and relationships. And they have all the way back to at least the 80's.

Marvel tends to treat ANY disruption of the time stream as a new universe. When/if the "All New X-Men" go back to their own era, it won't be the main Marvel timeline any more (which they call Earth 616).

Age of character created doesn't mean shit lol. Iceman for comic readers is still iconic. He's also one of the only Omega Level mutants. Did you read Wolverine and the X-men?

Marvel hasn't announced anything, for what it's worth. This is a story today because someone with access to an advance copy decided to scan said copy and post it on the internet to cause commotion, and CBR's article is commenting on that. Marvel hasn't said anything in response to it, and my guess is that they were going to wait until the issue was out and the news sites came to them for comment before doing so. This isn't marketing; this is someone at the retail and/or distribution level leaking a comic before it's on shelves.

Did they ever explore that? Seems like he never hit his full potential.
 
The reveal could have been handled better... but this is still great for his character. Iceman has always had really cool powers but as an actual character could have been a lot stronger. This gives them something to work with to help differentiate him. I love it!

I feel like "never hit full potential" is true about most mutants, because the stories would be super short with quick resolutions if they were allowed to do that.
 
As a long time X-men fan, the only thing that bothers me about this is that I really liked the way too brief relationship he had with Kitty Pryde. It was really cute - the OG youngest X-man with maturity issues with the first kid recruit who was much stronger and more mature. It was like seeing the two kids fall in love when they grew up.

But that said, this explains Bobby's long issues with relationships. Wonder how this will be going forward...and please don't just force him into a relationship with some other known gay hero. Let him sow his oats with new characters.

They didn't unveil anything? Comic was leaked and its a few sites that are making a big deal out of it not Marvel themselves.

I did up until about issue #20 or so. It was too "Scooby Doo" for my tastes.

He was suppose to "realize" his potential (as hinted by Aaron in the beginning of the run) but alas...he failed. Again.

The only Omega Iceman is the AoA version. 616 version may have the potential, but he never lived up to it.

oddly enough there's been quite a few nonhetero sexual characters related to x-men. northstar, mistique, daken.... probably a bunch of other random side characters too
