Pretty much everyone in this thread is playing from an SSD.
Except for me lol. My boot drive is a mere 120 GB but I'm having no problems running the game on my 1 TB HDD in 4K (although idk how much an SSD will speed up loading times).

Tweaked settings some more with my GTX 760, i5 3570k, and 8GB RAM. Maintains 60 FPS but can dip to 50 in the Paleto Bay Forest, lowest recorded for me was 49. Just be aware that Adaptive Vsync, FXAA, and AF 8x is on in the Nvidia control panel.

Since Andy's guide is just about here I definitely want to add it to the OP.
Can anyone tell me how to create an image link? I want a geforce guide picture/logo and when clicked on takes you straight the the guide![]()
Micro-stuttering is truly the plauge of recent PC gaming. It seems as if EVERY game is affected.
Had the exact same drop at the exact same spot, dropped my Grass quality to High (Grassgate be damned) and the same area dropped to 59fps at the lowest for a second, the rest of the game is pretty smooth.
Since I have 670 2GB which is pretty much a 760 you can probably max that pop variety and turn Shadows to high and you should still be good and above 60fps (although I have both my GPU and CPU overclocked so it might affect the results a little).
Fixed the crashes.
Apparently, it's caused by changing your Landing Page settings.
How fucking stupid is that?

Didn't experience any of that so called micro-stuttering in GTAV nor recent PC titles, sure there's the occasional frame drop here and there, but nothing I'd call real stuttering.
Got my new 8gigs of RAM in the mail yesterday. Haven't put it in yet. But I was playing last night and watching my committed system memory just creep up slowly but surely. Started around 7.8gigs committed and ended after an hour and a half at 9.7gigs committed. Near the end I was definitely getting some dips here and there. RAM related? Dunno.
Wondering if there's any good way to bench to show any differences. Probably not. It'll all be anecdotal. I can use FRAPs benchmark tool for 10 min before and after the RAM but I don't know if that would really show what I'm expecting the difference to be.
Either way, I'll probably throw the memory in tonight and see how it goes.

What? No.
Tried running DDU and completely reinstalling the latest drivers? I was having similar issues and this helped a ton.
Haven't played GTA V yet, so can't say anything about it yet.
Edit: whoops, double.

On or Off?

Well, at least in my experience I guess then. Off the top of my head:
Far Cry 3
Far Cry 4
Sleeping Dogs
Deus Ex HR
Watchdogs
Battlefield 4
Skyrim
I dunno.
I'm having to turn down a larger list of features than I had expected to get 1080p60FPS on an i5 2500k 4.0 and a 970.
Even following guides on the biggest performance hitters - no MSAA, shadows high, post fx very high (love that DOF), Grass high. Might have to turn down more of the advanced features.
Keep in mind, I can hit 60fps in certain instances, but there are plenty of noticeable dips. It's enough to make me want to crank everything up and lock it at 30fps since 60 is too damn inconsistent.
Hmm.. I can keep a solid 80+ most of the time with similar settings on my 970. Disable everything under advanced (you can keep the flying thing on), those will eat up a lot of performance and the difference isn't worth it compared to the cost right now.
You should have no real problems getting a very stable 60FPS with a few things turned down like you have now.
Good to know, I'll give those a shot next. I'm also assuming there is no fix to the crazy short distance that shadow quality is loaded? I can sometimes take one step forward and be greeted by crisp, detailed shadows on the ground right in front of me only to take a step back and lose them. It's even worse than Assassin's Creed, and that game had some serious distance issues.
So the game won't start at all for me. I click playgta but nothing opens and no sign of it in task manager. Anyone else?
Turning it on fixed the crashes.
Interested to see if the RAM helps you. We have similar setups and if addding another 8GB RAM helps I'm willing to do it.
Yeah, advanced settings can be the biggest resource hogs. Extended distance scaling and high res shadows (if you're using very high shadow quality) especially.
I don't recall what exactly distance scaling does, is there a good screenshot that documents it?

Oh I forgot to mention, I'm having a weird bug with this game. Any time I enable the OSD in MSI Afterburner, my FPS drops by ~10-15 (I've verified this by having FRAPS open at the same time, which doesn't seem to affect my FPS). Any idea what could be causing this?
Will definitely try this. Been running at 4k with the framerate varying from 35 to 50 (780 Ti), and I've been wanting to properly cap it at 30 but I can't seem to do it right. It ends up being really choppy and sluggish. Also input lag is a big issue for some reason. Really annoying. No idea how to get rid of it, unless I play at 1080p. Disabling any form of vsync helps, but it's still noticeable. If anyone does want to lock at 30fps, I strongly recommend the following to make it somewhat bearable:
- lock @ 30 using Nvidia Inspector (RTSS might be just as good, or better)
- set motion blur to max
- set NVCP Max Pre-rendered frames to 1
- use borderless windowed mode (for triple-buffered v-sync)
Those last two are critical to ensure maximum controller response, and help it feel less sluggish.
I just played a couple of missions like this and it was tolerable. I might roll like this for a little while. Enabled me to step up to 4xMSAA, Very High grass and Ultra PostFX. I could probably whack up some of the extended sliders too but I'm not interested in them.
Also, my perception was that stuttering becomes basically nonexistent @ 30, so perhaps that's something to consider. It truly was a locked 30 in every sense.
EDIT: This is of course only if you have a 60Hz monitor and the game is set to 60Hz. If you have a 120Hz monitor you could go for 40fps instead![]()
Can someone recommend settings/programs or tell me what I'm doing wrong? I want to play with at least 2xMSAA but my hardware can't handle that at 1080p60 with my settings. I'm perfectly fine with 1080p30 and so is my hardware (it's absolutely locked at 30, never drops), but it feels much slower than the console versions which are 30fps. I had the same issue with Far Cry 4. It's a perfect, solid 30 but it feels like anything but.
Is it because I'm using the game's own half VSync setting or something else?
I'll definitely share my experiences. But it'll all just be my observations really. I can't think of a good way to benchmark it other than maybe keep a FRAPS bench running for an hour+ before and after. That's a lot of work and not very scientific though lol
all those different monitoring overlays mess with a lot of games nowdays
Turn off MSI AB , FRAPS, everything
Just play the game clean and it'll perform better
It's nice that the patch solved this problem for the people who had the issue in the first place and at the same time introduced the same bug for those who didn't.The aiming while driving CTD seems to have been fixed.

Use some motion blur I think, it's usually what games do to give the illusion of being faster. Same with movies.
Why do you say that??
