I thought they already did this back during Chuck Austen's run. As horrible as it was thats about the only thing I remember. He got his panties in a bunch over Northstar because Iceman was a self hating gay.
I was commenting on the possibility that Marvel may have been taking the nurture stance in the nature vs nurture debate if both icemen may have had different orientations. But I posted my comment before the page screenshot/scan was posted... which clearly shows that young Bobby is just as confused about that situation as the readers were at that moment... I'm gonna have to pick up some issues and see what it's all about.Edit: Shit, I may have completely misunderstood your comment. Apologies if I have.
So you think this is Marvel "sticking" it to fox somehow? I really don't see it that way... Brian Singer being gay had a huge impact on some of the themes brought up in the X-Films... all the gay parallels that were between the lines he had a big hand in accentuating. He's probably as happy as anyone that Bobby (at least in one version, possibly all?) turned out gay. Makes me wonder if he will find a way to add some small nod to this reveal in Age of Apocalypse.Given with how Disney/Marvel has been handling things with Fox ... that's clearly intentional.
Even if they had good intentions in-so-far as having a character come out, the specific choice of which character is clearly to fuck with Fox.
Of course I remember... but that was Singer commenting on mutants being treated very similarly to homosexuals because it creates a very powerful message and adds a very real and familiar context to the whole mutants being hated side of things. When I said "Makes Fox's X-Men 1 & 2 seem a bit strange now" I'm specifically talking about the rogue and iceman romance which is a straight romance... sorry if that is not clear?X-Men 2 had a bunch of references to homosexuality, remember the stryker and professor x conversation? :
"Your son wanted me to fix him"
"Our son blamed us for his condition"
"I told your son that being a mutant was not something to be shameful about"
"My son is dead, just like the rest of you!"
so wait is older bobby Gay as well? or has he been confused/in the closet up to now?
Regardless of whether agree that it's in character or not that reveal is just ridiculous. Representaion is important and being gay shouldn't be turned into some sort of spectacle or a company's way of trying get more readership. Thats what it feels like.

Whether you agree with it or not, this is just a parallel of all those celebrities 'coming' out, intentional or not. Those things were very instrumental in in pushing where gay rights is today and coming out is arguably one of the most important milestone in a LGBT person's life. Although I do agree that this is a little awkward.

Well, at least she's not outing him to others. And that she's constantly looking into peoples minds without any sense of privacy has been going on for a while know. The implication is that he's closeted.
If anything, people should hate Jean for outing him like that.
I don't think they're really saying that present Bobby is straight while past Bobby is gay. The leaked page goes on to mention his unsuccessful relationships and seems to imply that they ended up like that exactly because he was actually gay but hiding or denying it. It's a stupid reasoning, but that seems to be what they're going with for now, until someone retcons the young X-Men into being from another universe or something.
The problem i have with that is that it describes so many characters. Its a comic staple to fall in and out of relationships
Bryan singer doing rewrites rn

At that link they have a cap of the comic where Jean is all "You're gay Bobby, why do you have to say things like that?" Like gay guys can't talk about how hot a woman is? Young Jean needs to remove her head from her ass.
Thank god! This better stick! Bobby's love life wasn't really scorching anyway, and I've always held the playful notion that he's in deep denial like so many other fans. I know this probably pisses off other fans with things getting retconned again, but I love it!
I really love it.

Which is to say, who cares if Iceman is gay? Or bi? Or in the closet?
Gay and/or bisexual readers. People like seeing people who are like them represented in their entertainment. And for a comic who is largely based on the discrimination or homosexuals they really never dealt with homosexuality outside of Northstar.
Somewhere Brian Singer is calling Shawn Ashmore
I was arguing for the character being gay or bisexual. And X-Men is based on the discrimination of minorities, not just the LGBT community.
Whoah whats thisSeveral times, last time he damn near killed Thor
Colossus must also be gay.
Whoah whats this
He is in fact super hot when he's not drawn like a child.Thank god! This better stick! So I guess 'the seed are always there' for any comic character who has failed in straight relationships to be gay.
so that is like most of them....
