They are not following the comic story, just the basic premise of Cap vs Iron Man.

It's probably not even really Cap vs Iron Man so much as Registration/Fear vs Freedom/Hope. Stark will definitely be for registration, but will the film actually have a scene where heroes are literally fighting each other? I dunno. It seems like there'll be enough villains in the film as it is, with Zemo and Crossbones.

Why would they have Stark and Cap start fighting already? That's obviously gonna be saved for Civil War. And there's plenty of stuff going on already without blatantly showing the future clash between those 2 ideologies.
However, they HAVE built the tension between the two. It's just not fully blown out yet, but that's what Civil War is gonna be for.

So going into Civil War, maybe Tony Stark feels really bad and gives his services, technology and himself to the government (and superhero registration/accountability), and Captain America forgives him and thinks that's bullshit. So they might be on opposite ends of a viewpoint without wanting to kill each-other.

I fully expect the new line-up of Avengers to get updated with Ant-Man, Black Panther, Captain Marvel and Dr. Strange, as well as potentially Spider-Man.
I also wouldn't be surprised if Captain America and maybe Black Widow get rotated out as well during the events of Civil War.

I think the worst thing about the film is how awful the entire first act was. Like, what was that garbage? It felt like walking into a film 15 minutes after it started. That is not how you do in medias res. Instead of being an exciting set piece which sets up the rest of the film, it felt like a confusing "what did I miss" sequence which sort of introduces the elements which eventually form the core of the plot.

- When did the Avengers get together again?
- How did they know Von Strucker has the scepter?
- Who is Von Strucker?
- How did the twins get their powers? What experiments was Von Strucker conducting?

These would be questions which should be answered for anyone not intimately already familiar with the Marvel universe. Even for the people who are, it's not really explained in the context of the MCU. The lack of that build up means it's hard to give a shit about what's going on.

And for people who have been paying attention to the MCU and following all the movies, where are questions too like:

- Why is Iron Man happily using the Iron Legion and remote activated suits after the ending of Iron Man 3? What the hell happened?

- How did Captain America go from semi-fugitive to the leader of the Avengers willing to operate openly overseas on destructive missions? Wouldn't this make people even more concerned after what happened with SHIELD?

- When did Black Widow and Banner have a thing going? It's just thrown in there like something which happened between films, but we've seen the characters in other films inbetween and there was nothing at all suggesting something like that. Pretty weird!

This is exactly why I said the film feels like it's set right after Avengers 1 instead of having the solo films in between. It feels like Whedon didn't use the character development from the solo films at all.

It absolutely will.

They didn't shy away from having Thor fight the hulk and Iron man in the avengers, as well as The Hulk chasing down Black Widow. So brawling between "heroes" is certainly on the cards.

There's no way they choose to make a civil war story and have no fighting between the two sides.

They sort of acknowledge Iron-Man wanting out of 'superhero-ing' after the events of Iron-Man 3, and that's fairly central to the plot of this. Captain America leading a team to actively clean-up Hydra also makes sense following TWS. Thor, eh, I guess is more Earthly.

Did anyone else notice there were a lot of 'cleavage' shots in this? Haha...
I still can't get over how Iron Man beat the Hulk. Hulk was so nerfed.

Yeah the big shot of her screaming reaction to QS's death was a bit impacted by the view right down her top.

I thought Vision was the best part of the film, everything else felt super forced and laboured and in traditional marvel film fashion they abandoned their story and focused on visuals that just become empty at a certain point. I thought the twins were uninteresting, Banner was good and I didnt mind Black Widow either. Hawkeye felt forced and I had no interest in whether he lived or died, when it turned out QS did I sat there thinking "So...am I meant to be sad?". I thought there was alot of potentially interesting things in there with Scarlett Witch and some of the flashbacks were cool but they really didnt explore it that much.

Im in a good mood so id give it maybe a 5/10 but I have absolutely no want to rewatch.

So someone help me out on this, I'm reading on wikipedia that almost everyone is going to appear in Civil War? Widow, Scarlet Witch, Bucky, Hawkeye, Falcon and even Iron Man and Black Panther? There's even rumors of Spider Man appearing apparently. All of this is confirmed? If so, that seems like an Avengers 2.5 to me.

The scream of Scarlet Witch when Quicksilver died, btw - my first thought was "No more mutants". :p

I'm fairly certain that people who went to see Avengers 2 at least have seen Avengers 1.
To answer the last 2 questions:
- Von Strucker is a leftover Hydra leader. They mention that multiple times.
- They got experimented on by Von Strucker, who has been accumulating alien technology, along it Loki's scepter, and tried to create super soldiers based on it. That is, although not outright mentioned, heavily implied. And I don't think it would've done anything to delve into the details about the experiments conducted on the twins.

Yes It very much is. Though they have said the story is a Cap story at heart so it wouldn't surprise me if it ends up as a much more focussed and therefor better film.

Yeah good point, and it'll also be a kind of mini audition to see how they'll do directing Infinity Wars with Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus both writing both movies and the Russo brothers directing both films

So...[post-credit spoiler, so tagging to be safe]
How does Thanos have the gauntlet when it was on Asgard last we saw?

Well this movie had a brief physical confrontation with Cap and Iron Man, so absolutely they're going to fight in Civil War.

Odin is gone, Loki has control of Asgard now but it also looks like it was in some sort of crate which it wasn't the previous time, maybe they beefed up their security.

The gauntlet is only a gauntlet until the Stones are in. It's designed to be able to hold them sure, but there's no reason there can't be more than one.

I wouldn't take that easter egg seriously. Pretty sure it was just in there as a "tease" instead of actually acting as the actual gauntlet.

You can already notice the difference between that one and the one that's been shown so far.

Thor's version is right handed and already has all the gems on it. Could take it anyway you want but it's an easter egg, a fake, a second gauntlet, etc

I don't think you call your movie Civil War and not at least have an Iron Man vs Cap brawl. Or at the very least a homage to this moment

Can't wait to be honest. As much as I like the lightheartedness of the Avengers i'm really excited to see all these characters go all out in the style of the Winter Soldier. Please get the fight coordinator of WS and Daredevil back for this one.

The casting news for Civil War now makes perfect sense given the new Avengers roster by the end. It seems like it will be the governments and Iron Man (including Zemo and whatever else is going on there) vs Cap's new Avengers (which luckily include his whole supporting cast).

i liked scarlet witch her hair at the end

She looked great with new hair and costume. I need to see some shots of the New Avengers ago because I think Falcon looked a little different too.

I can't wait to see the New Avengers in action. It'll be good to see War Machine and Falcon getting out of the sidekick roles.

I read something about Falcon getting a new suit in CA:Civil War, which would make sense now that he's part of the new team.

The hulk and black widow romance is just forced the war machine dude is annoying as hell and falcon got stiffed for a quick cameo and Nick fury just disappeared final scene in the movie is when ultron robot crashes into hellicarrier still liked the movie though even if it was all over the place

Just got back from the movie. Went in with lowered expectations but I ended up really enjoying it. There are a lot of great stuff baked in the movie but also a lot of not so great stuff.

Enjoyed the first Avengers more but I would probably put this one in the top/good tier of MCU movies.
My biggest criticism is Ultron himself. Spader really delivered in his performance but he didn't feel intimidating at all! Vibranium armor that got destroyed like it was nothing, and the biggest damage he did was when he was in a quinjet... Hoping for an Annihilation Conquest adaption or something along those lines so we can get an Ultron who's kicking ass and taking names.

Thor's side quest felt really weird. He just disappeared and came back. There must be some cut material there. Wasn't Hiddlestone supposed to appear?

That mid-credits scene was very lame as well...

Reading a few posts it seems like there is a lot of negativity.

Not from me though. The film was fun as fuck!
A great Avengers story! Loved it!

Seeing Ultron and Vision on the big screen was delightful

Just got back from seeing it. Thought the movie was great, though was disappointed that they yet again barely gave Thor anything to do.

It looked like he was going to get the big final fight against Ultron's 'main' body for a second there... But he ends up having to be saved by Vision using his own hammer. Poor Thor.

..and he disappears for a good portion of the film to go and provide set-up for some future films.

FINALLY.

God Tier:
Winter Soldier
Guardians of the Galaxy

High Tier:
Age of Ultron
Avengers
Iron Man 3

Mid Tier:
Iron Man
Dark World

Low Tier:
Thor
Captain America

Shit Tier:
Iron Man 2
Incredible Hulk

Lived up to my expectations of "good, but not as good as the last two MCU movies." What I'm really looking forward to is Ant-Man, because I have absolutely no idea WHAT to expect from it. Will it be god tier? Will it be shit tier? Nobody knows

It was most definitely new, it had accents of red in the suit and wings whereas his Winter Solider suit was black.
Ah you're right, I googled the old one and the one in Avengers 2 does look different.
Anyone have a picture of the new Falcon / Scarlet Witch uniforms at the end of the movie, yet?...

5 minutes of googling got me nothing, bummer as I didn't get a good look of Wanda's outfit.

Ranking the Marvel Cinematic Universe:

  1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
  2. Guardians of the Galaxy
  3. The Avengers
  4. Iron Man
  5. Captain America: The First Avenger
  6. Avengers: Age of Ultron
  7. Thor
  8. Thor: The Dark World
  9. Iron Man 3
  10. Iron Man 2
  11. The Incredible Hulk

I just left the theater about an hour ago and I have to say it was the most fun I have had from a movie in 2015 as of yet. The sequel did not need another hour to fully explain who each character is, and in my opinion that makes this the best movie action wise in comparison to the first.

However, as much as I liked Ultron, he did not come off to me like the world destroyer he claimed to be in the end. While I agree that The Avengers is also hugely succesful because of its humor, I do think it did not quite fit Ultron and by the time he said his first humor line I was kind of put out of the atmosphere and tension of the first sequence where he looks and sounds very menacing.

Hulk and Iron Man are just an amazing combo and so are Cap and Thor.

Hawkeye and Black Widow though? Where did there chemistry go after the first movie? I do not think they even talked to each other, or at least it was not memorable enough. Hawkeye as the character he is totally redeemed himself in this movie. Wow.

All in all an amazing movie and I can not rate one higher than the other. They are both equally awesome in their own rights.
