That's actually a really good comparison.

I'm not seeing it. This movie's problems was it had too much in it and was cut down too short (also that it was a "middle chapter"), UC3's was that they made changes to the gameplay that were worse compared to UC2, and the plot and structure was more or less recycled again, not feeling like it had advanced at all.

This film was certainly better as an actual film than the first one, even if it wasn't as much of an "event".

Being an ensemble piece I'm not expecting huge amounts of character development
There is actually a lot of character development in the movie.

You know my main problem with the MCU is actually just the soundtracks, really seems like Marvel just doesn't give a crap about consistency.
Not sure what you mean bzby consistency, but this is the most referencal soundtrack of all MCU movies. Themes from 3 previous movies are used, either quoted or verbatim.

Saw this today, some thoughts from someone who knows very little about comic books but saw all of the comic book movies.

- plot feels very messy with too many plot threads

- some nice character moments, even for the lesser characters, but others felt pretty meaningless and takes up too much time, which is worrying because it seems even more characters will be added to the roster in future films

- villain felt misuse/underused; simply not interesting or threatening enough

- action scenes were pretty good but not great; best fight was Hulk vs Hulkbuster

- some CGIs didn't look that great; the score was just okay

- some character banters were pretty good, but the one liners/jokes often felt flat

- the twin's power were very interesting (more so than Ultron himself) but their accents were pretty jarring and I don't usually mind this stuff

The whole movie to me felt hollow and directionless but I am someone who finds that only some of the MCU movies were great. Marvel or comic book fans might feel very differently since they might care more about all the characters.

But regardless of what I said, this is still feel like a comic movie spectacle and the general movie going audience will still lap it up, just like they did with the Transformers movies.

MCU tier list:

Great
Iron Man 1 / Winter Soldier

Good
Avengers / Iron Man 3 / Guardian of the Galaxy

Average
Captain American 1 / Thor 1 / Age of Ultron

Meh
Iron Man 2 / Thor 2

@xtrasauce: you're right, was trying to be more diplomatic; I've made it more clear

Haven't seen this yet, im just saying overall so far.
Iron Man 1's was amazing, 2 meh, 3 alright.
Cap 1 was great, WS was extremely generic imo(the one time they used his first theme is literally the only thing memorable).
Avengers 1 was decent/good, what I have heard of 2 didn't sound that memorable yet.
Even Shield had a perfect theme created for it in Avengers and it wasn't used for AoS(probably my favorite track on Avenger's Soundtrack)

Watched it last night. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Plenty of action and comedy.

However, I thought the pacing was off. Loads of action, which rarely stops. But the first film seemed to flow smoother, more organic. Age of Ultron just seemed to get too far ahead of itself at times, and the Thor side mission was far too brief.

I realise cuts have obviously been made. problem is, that detracts from the actual experience and the continuity.

But I did really enjoy it.

Paul Bettany as the Vision was a definite highlight, and James Spader's voice was superb.

Looking forward to seeing the next batch of films.

Oh, and on a seperate note, Daredevil is amazing. Great story, acting, pace. Agents of Shield, however, really isn't cutting the mustard for me. So disappointing.

Watched this movie tonight and loved it.

I was kind of disappointed with Ultron. He is very cool but ultimately don't think they did enough to show his scale or power. I don't follow the comics at all, but to be the headline villain I was expecting a lot more.

Hulk Buster fight was incredible - easily one of the best action scenes in any movie I've watched so far.

Also, Ant Man trailer before the movie had the cinema in stitches. I think it's going to do quite well if they can keep the humour element intact in the lead up to release.

Do the Avengers try fighting Ultron all at once? Can anyone who's seen the movie answer? Avengers vs one powerful bad dude was missing as a set piece for movie 1, and I'm wondering if that's being saved for IW if at all.

They don't all fight him at once. There's a scene where Iron Man, Vision, and Thor collectively use their lightning/repulsor/head beam against Ultron and he starts melting.

Otherwise, Ultron manages to keep most of them busy/distracted.

All of the Avengers are together for the main big battle where waves of Ultron bots are attacking. Epic action!

Cool, just popped my head in to see what early opinions were and spoiled by some daft junior fuck.

You can post within spoiler tags.

I don't mind the explanation but I know there are plenty of others who do. And your post just before that spoils a major plot point no one asked about.

Watched it. Good but nothing too special, on par with the first one. Still a few steps away from Marvel's better ones. Fun fights, pacing all other the fucking place.

I think Quicksilver is dead. However, there's no telling how Doc Strange's ability to traverse dimensions will affect the MCU. Does that mean previously dead characters could be brought back from other dimension where they're still alive? Sounds cheesy to me, and cliche.

Dude, come on - tag it for people who haven't seen the movie.

I think one of the inherent problems with Age of Ultron is the sheer number of people involved -- the size of the cast.

Trying to force all of that into a 2.5 hr film is problematic. No doubt Thor's side mission suffered as a result.

Come on man, spoiler tag that last bit bro.

Well, I've considered myself lucky that I clicked on the most recent post button, therefore totally skipping that spoiler entirely, but in any case, I'm fucking outta here then.

See you next week.

If you step into this thread, you is spoiled.

If we can quickly get onto next page we can save some maybe?
