DRK, no question.

Man of Steel felt like an alternate version of Supes and it wasn't that bad (or at least I didn't feel offended by it). DKR on the other hand, shat on the goodwill the two previous movies had created. And this is coming from a guy that doesn't think Spider-man 3 is the worst thing ever.

GAF acts like every superhero movie should be a cinematic masterpiece. I enjoyed both.

i think they basically need to not suck. Why do I need to lower my standards when there are plenty of movies out there that don't suck? Thinking a superhero movie sucks does not mean you desire a cinematic masterpiece. I loved Dark Knight and Batman Begins; I did not enjoy Dark Knight Rises and Man of Steel. None are "cinematic masterpieces", but only two of these suck in my view.

I don't think I could sit through either again.

Both are over-indulgent, dreary messes, devoid of emotion and logic.

I wonder everyday what the movie would have been like if Heath Ledger didn't pass. Because I think I read an interview where Nolan said they had a story planned where he returned.

The problem is...Nolan treated his Batman universe like it should be thought of as a cinematic masterpiece. Snyder didn't treat MOS like that...and most of the other superhero films don't take themselves so seriously.

People actually clapped at the end of MoS when I watched it in theaters. I really wish I had seen the same movie as them. Personally, I enjoyed TDKR A LOT more.

This makes me want to watch Man Of Steel. I'm not a Superman fan by any means and the movie didn't look too appealing to me

Does it have a good amount of action? I can handle an ok/mediocre movie if it does

It has the best action in a superhero film this side of The Avengers.

TDKR had it's problems, but Tom Hardy's Bane and Anne Hathaway's Catwoman were good.

There was just too much wrong with Man of Steel. I've tried so many times to enjoy it but I just can't.

Very difficult question. I am going to say TDKR. Nothing beats the stupidity of that street fight.

+1

TDKR had so many silly plotholes and ideas like sending the entire police force underground? Why wouldn't you bring in the national guard and FBI etc. if it required that amount of force. Or the idea of a prison in the middle of nowhere with no guards, yet still have caged cells that are left open with a huge way of getting out. Where we have in the past seen many prisoners work together to achieve escape, here they're happy to be left alone. With no real sewage system possible, no food/water distribution... they didn't think it through at all. Then magically transports back to his city at the exact right moment required after months, spending what would take days to paint a giant bat symbol on a bridge with flammable liquid. With the big plan being to blow up the city, something they could have rigged in weeks rather than months and not require a fucking nuke.

Man of Steel has issues with dialogue, pacing and a lack of a good story but it functions. I really didn't like their take on it, but it was vaguely cohesive at least. The fucking dog/dad scene and bus crash put to one side among other stupid decisions.

TDKR is the second best Batman movie made. Hm, but now that I'm thinking about it, Man of Steel is the second best Superman movie made.

My god...I think...both are...good movies. It's as if I can find something disappointing without thinking it's the "worst" or even thinking it sucks.

I'm sorry GAF, I have failed you.

There's probably 20 minutes of The Dark Knight Rises that I think could even resemble good film-making.

So much of it is fuckingnothing.gif

I don't think that either of them suck.

It has a good amount of action yeah. The finale is a bit overwhelming though and could've done with some trimming.

At the very least it would have provided some much needed cohesion for the plot.
DKR just wanted to cover too many characters and arcs for it to work.

dark knight rises was so boring. the fights were slow and weak.

Man of Steel had some insane action scenes so i enjoyed it way more.

TDKR feels like everyone not giving a shit, it's all over the place, and it has one of the worst/most hilarious onscreen deaths I've ever seen in a movie.

MOS is bloated as hell and stupid in parts but somehow I am willing to sit through that again over TDKR.

TDKR, because of the movies that it followed.

MoS is actually more entertaining though, I can rewatch that thing. Last time I attempted a TDKR rewatch I quit about an hour in. A slog of a movie.

MoS could be considered more mediocre and I think that's why people hate it so much, but it's more consistent both visually, with characterization, and with the narrative.

TDKR has more uniqueness in it's presentation, so people probably think it hits higher highs but I think it fails mostly where it's attempting to be deep or menacing or creative. Either way, it's way less consistent and more hit or miss but what I think makes it a worse movie is that the lows are much lower.

People complain about Superman killing or the destruction in MoS but honestly it feels much more like nitpicking when put up against Talia/Bane's bait and switch/lack of cohesive characterization or the shoehorned sociopolitical messages that were added to give depth or the Bat voice or Alfred's flip flopping charization from the previous films or Batman's miraculous recovery from debilitating injuries, not once but twice, to service the plot or more Nolan-esque twists for the sake of keeping the audience guessing rather than being consistent with the world or how Batman is somehow able to travel hundreds (probably thousands) of miles from a hole in the middle of nowhere to Gotham....etc. etc. etc. you get the point.

TDKR is hands down a worse movie and that's before even getting into things I personally thought were bad like Bane's voice or the whole ending.

Dat hyperbole.

I fell asleep in the theater watching MoS, but I still wouldn't say it's bad movie, maybe a bit boring. I liked TDKR better and even though I agree with a lot of the complaints here is still not bad movie either.

If you want to see crazy superpowered gods fighting each other unlike anything in film, watch Man of Steel. The action is great.

I dont think i could watch Man of Steel ever again, what a piece of shit

I could stomach DKR, there are a few decent performances at least

DKR was a better film (had a few memorable scenes), but was a greater disappointment than MoS.

EDIT: Dammit, beaten.

I hated both, but having superman snap the neck of the villain and just the amount of destruction caused in the city made it much worse than the crap pile that TDKR is.

People actually clapped at the end of MoS when I watched it in theaters. I really wish I had seen the same movie as them. Personally, I enjoyed TDKR A LOT more.
Is this like some variation of the Americans clapping meme?
Why would you applaud in a cinema?

Batman shoots the driver of a bomb truck and Talia to death in TDKR because he's like "Fuck it, I can't get the bomb otherwise".

He's worse than Superman.

I had more fun watching MoS, TDKR was a huge disappointment but I agree that both plots sucked pretty hard with some unbelievable moments. The action in MoS puts it on top, wouldn't even consider watching TDKR again.

TDKR is a shit. Shits on the premise of the previous movies ending, movies own climax shits on its own promise. Action sucks, movie looks like crap aside from the opening, magic mystery detective Mary sue JGL

Its a shit.

Man of Steel is better in every way.

I can't watch TDKR anymore...especially because you know what Bane really is. That reveal neutered him significantly to the point he hardly feels like a villain. That's not even touching the other inconsistencies in the movie.

I can still watch MOS.

He's the exact opposite of batman though. Ras protege vs talia protege.

Never have understood the vitriol both of these movies get. They both have issues -- The Dark Knight Rises moreso. But Christ, some here act like they're the worst experiences on film. Man of Steel, to me, is the better movie. Saw it three times in the theater and numerous times on Blu ray and absolutely love it. TDKR has that stupid twist at the end that absolutely ruins an otherwise great villain.
