The Dark Knight Rises felt like a bad pantomime to me, especially compared to the Dark Knight. I didn't like either of them, but I still thought the Dark Knight was the better film.

Man of Steel just felt thematically off, and it seems to me that Batman vs. Superman: Case of the Century is going to continue in that vein.

But they're all Elseworlds tales in my opinion, so there's nothing inherently wrong with their interpretations of the characters.

Man of Steel is the better movie, I actually like the film after mulling it over some, but I can't bring myself to like TDKR, they basically had inverse effects on my where Batman got worse as time went on and Superman got better as I learned to pick out the good and ignore the bad.

Man of Steel is the best Superman movie of all time, in my unbiased opinion. It's a 2015 Dell XPS with slim bezels compared to a Pentium desktop from years ago. Superman is all about action and this film gives you action.

Is there a color corrected version of Man of Steel available from a reputable retailer?

My vote goes to TDKR because of Bane and old Bruce. The potholes are so big in TDKR that you can fly the battleship galactica through them.

This makes me want to watch Man Of Steel. I'm not a Superman fan by any means and the movie didn't look too appealing to me

Does it have a good amount of action? I can handle an ok/mediocre movie if it does

You just saw the best part.

Batman shoots to death, in the face, the character that would become the mother of his child in the comics. And he doesn't bat a fucking eyelid.

Which means nothing to the movie.

Man of Steel is a typical CGI Zach Snyder crapfest made solely to make money. At least Dark Knight Rises had a satisfying story and an incredible performance by Tom Hardy.

Man of Steel is probably the better film just because of how hard TDKR misfires from a writing perspective, but it also manages to be a complete mismatch for the source material. I felt that TDKR understood Bruce better than MOS understood Superman
until Bruce faked his death to run away with catwoman looool

I think TDKR was an incompetent execution of a decent premise. I think MOS was flawed at its core.

You all have to be joking. Man of Steel sucked. DKR wasn't even a bad movie, it wasn't as good as its predecessors; but it wasn't bad. Man of Steel was awful.

I don't think either sucked. I think TDKR had more basic problems with its story. MoS was overly sentimental, had major pacing and thematic issues down the home stretch, but nevertheless entertained me more (and I think, overall, it was better shot). Both films had silly moments and stupid plots.

So I guess I think TDKR was was a slightly lesser film.

It's best to ignore GAF when discussions of either movie come up. Rational thought goes out the window when these films are discussed.

Robin being killed by the Joker didn't make Batman stop being Batman for 7 years.

It's a shit story, and it's the most un-Batman thing in that aboriton of a movie

I don't remember Joker killing Robin in the Nolan films. Throwing comic books storylines against Nolan's interpretation doesn't strengthen your argument either. There was a pretty solid reason why Nolan wrote he had stopped being Batman. The execution can be argued....but the reasoning behind it was pretty solid.

And in the comics she also bangs Bane.

So what happens in the comics storyline wise doesn't have to happen in the movies! Just like Joker influencing the creation of Two Face in The Dark Knight, that's totally not how his character is created in the comics.

And as for killing her, they were going to detonate a nuke, like Supes killing Zod it was a choice between killing or letting millions be killed... and also, from the comics.

Not to mention the film lifts entire frames from many Batman comics over the years and takes inspiration from classics like The Dark Knight Returns, Knightfall and No Man's Land.

It really was. My cousin and I rented it and were both asleep after 30 minutes. He politely asked me to not invite him over for anymore Nolan flicks.

Man Of Steel was pretty fun. It certainly had it's share of flaws, but the story had a much quicker pace and the action was exciting.

It's just an example of how shit it is regarding being true to the characters, which seems to be a common complaint levelled at Man of Steel.

That's only a complaint against man of Steel because man of steel has dumb shit like a grown man wearing a big S on his chest and bright red cape being played entirely straight despite it contrasting the tone.

The movie isn't sure whether he's comic superman or not. That's the problem.

Damien wasn't even a thing until, what, 10 years ago? Not every part of every character has to be included in the movie just because it was in the comics.

I'm not talking specifically about Damian. I'm talking about Batman's relationship to Talia.

I'll repeat, the only person in The Dark Knight Rises that acts anything like their comic book counterpart is Catwoman. The actions of most of the characters aren't even consistent with how they acted in the last film, and for little to no good reason.

The Dark Knight Rises is also a drab and boring film that somehow has a worst plot than Man of Steel.

Being a big Batman fan makes TDKR better to me than MoS. Plus I can get to say that I was in the stadium scene for TDKR. So TDKR is definitely the clear winner for me. Every time I watch MoS, I can enjoy it more than I originally did because I just think how awesome these fight scenes could be in a live action DBZ film.

I liked both, and consider them above average comic book movies. I think Man of Steel had bigger faults though

The hate they get compared to TASM 2/Iron Man 2+3/Thor 2 is pretty interesting, much more vitriol about it
It is pretty interesting. There has been more topics about MoS than all those movies combined, I'd wager. Maybe if DC started shoveling in quips and witty banter into every scene of their films they'd get less harsh a reception. Seems to work for Marvel.

the mother of his child

Okay.

I don't care THAT much about the first point (I know it's a cardinal sin for some, but the integrity of the movie itself is more important to me than its comic book faithfulness -- not that the two are mutually exclusive anyway) and disagree on the second.

TDKR is boring, overlong, has poorly executed subplots and themes w/ pacing issues, sidelines some of its best characters, and is disappointing compared to its predecessors. However, all of its individual sequences are well shot, have functioning dialogue, and are relatively grounded. TDKR is mediocre.

MoS is boring, overlong, has poorly executed themes, an awful plot with pacing issues the second you leave Krypton, has only a few characters worth caring about (Supes, Lois, Jor, Zod, and maybe Faora), heavyhanded dialogue throughout, and is supposed to be setting up a whole new cinematic universe. Granted, the film is fantastic visual spectacle, including the action sequences; however, the fights are often too long and lack dramatic weight because of all the crud that came before it. MoS is kinda bad.

I will watch individual scenes from either film, but I probably wouldn't elect to sit down and watch either film in its entirety any time soon. Maybe TDKR if I'm doing a trilogy run.

TLDR: MoS krypton sequences > TDKR > rest of MoS

Man of Steel is good for a Superman movie and TDKR is bad for a Nolan-Batman movie; in the end they are pretty close to each other.

dark knight rises was the bigger disappointment but at least it gave us bane posting

i already kinda knew there wasnt much to expect from a fucking superman movie so i came out of it feeling absolutely nothing.. its forgettable

so i gotta go with superman as the worse one

You mean, maybe if Man of Steel was a more tonally balanced film, it would have been better received? You might be on to something there...

Both movies are flawed but one happens to be really really boring all the way through and the other at least has some of the best action scenes in any superhero movie to date, but you still have to slog through some really boring/dumb stuff to get there.

I gotta go with Man Of Steel.

Going from TDK to TDRK felt like a huge decline, even Begins is leagues better

I thought both movies were enjoyable though flawed.

I'd say Man of Steel had less flaws. I've only watched Rises maybe 2 or 3 times since the theater. I've watched MoS 9 or 10 times and I really don't get tired of it.

I have yet to see Man O' Steele, but I was severely disappointed in the final battle with Batman and Bane. Utterly anti-climatic as fuck.

I find the backlash against DKR on this thread absolutely astounding. I haven't seen it anywhere else (not that I've been looking or anything).

Both are terrible movies, but at least Man of Steel had the potential to have been awesome if different people were in charge; TDKR was a disaster from the very start with it's premise, and simply added more dumb and baffling things on top of it.

Man of Steel did not have the entire city police force all go after Batman at the same time like a cartoon, and then have everyone get stuck underground like "gad zooks silly police offishers guh guh guh"

Principles including "ah fuck it I give up" and stops being Batman for seven years.

Of all the dumb shit Nolan has written, and there is a lot, that takes the cake.

That movie nearly lost me with that. A total betrayal of TDK's ending.

Both decent films for the DC universe and both had their ups and downs. Definitely not terrible movies like some people project, at least not Troll level bad.

TDKR thoroughly entertains me from beginning to end, while Man of Steel feels like it's going through the motions. I had low expectations for MoS to begin with though, so that might've colored my experience.

Also, I really enjoyed the theme of "fear of death" as a motivator in TDKR, while MoS' attempt to humanize Superman didn't strike a cord with me.
