Your opinion. You're being needlessly negative about this movie.

It's a great fun action movie. Everyone I know that's seen it has enjoyed it immensely.

That doesn't contradict anything he says.

Ultron was dumb as fuck, and there was like 0 tension or pay off in the final battle, it was more like 'oh okay I guess it's done'.

I had fun with it and I think I did enjoy it more than the first one but that doesn't change that.

Hulk vs Iron man was by far the best battle as well.

They have to kill endless weak robots and ultron himself doesn't do anything beyond stupid oneliners. There is no payoff or good final battle. The only fun battle is in the middle of the movie between hulk and ironman. Also ultron is the most dumb "superior" AI villain ever on film. He was dumb and dull as bricks.

This sounds atrocious. And people are wondering why I would be against Joss doing a Star Wars movie. He barely, or maybe not at all, seems to grasp the concept between good vs. evil and why people long for conflict in stories like this.

Have you been losing HS games again? I've only seen you this negative in that thread.

It's alright to be negative though. There are some positives about the film, but he isn't wrong about the final battle, which is what that particular post is a reply to.

edit: And a search for zoukka posts shows (s)he's only had two posts in the thread recently anyway. Come on.

This is probably how I'll feel overall. The first one was a lot of fun and I'm sure I will enjoy this. That being said, it's a sequel about a bunch of badass superheroes and I expected there to be some actual stakes and tension but as usual it sounds like Whedon is treating it as comedy hour fluff. It will probably be enjoyable but I have a feeling Infinity War is where it'll be.

I noticed one thing in the theatre - not a whole lot of laughs despite the movie having a lot of jokes.

I feel like half the reason is that the jokes were all very... on the nose. There was never really anything you couldn't see coming.
Versus the much more well thought out visual/audio comedy in Guardians of the Galaxy, it couldn't match up.

I would watch it before drawing conclusions from reading impressions, specially because you are giving more weigh to reactions that match your expectations. I went in without absolutely no hype or expectation and enjoyed the movie for what it was.

Man quick silver really cannot catch a break can he?

Only gets like 5 mins of screen time the DotFP, and dies in this.

I really don't think he is dead. They mention early on how he has Enhanced metabolism which is basically MCU saying Healing Factor I think and we know how strong some Healing Factors are. Wolverine comes back from headshots in the x-men movies.

Taking his body and not having a burial scene really makes me think he is going to be around in the future.

I really liked his character in both DotFP and AoU. DotFP has that really great kitchen/sprinkler scene but the character was better in AoU. Hopefully they can focus on him and give him something akin to the kitchen scene in later titles.

I didn't like Iron Man 3 for the same reasons I didn't like this. There are cool moments, its entertaining, I'd even go so far as to say I enjoyed it for the most part... but its just bombast. Lots of metal shit flying around and special effects all over the screen, too much time devoted to action on screen and not enough development and fun. I can't mistake lines of snappy dialogue for wit and narrative progression.

As the ensemble of characters grows (they brought back Maria Hill, Rhodes / Iron Patriot, Selvig, Peggy Carter, Heimdall, Falcon, and many more) its too messy. Adding Scarlett Witch and Quicksilver to that just seems ill advised, they don't get the narrative attention they deserved after their great Winter Soldier stinger -- they come off as useless tools of the villain and cannon fodder for the third act, there for some semblance of drama and sacrifice. Only I didn't care about them. They seemed out of place. We didn't get a sense of their history with hydra or their motivation outside of a boo hoo my parents are dead story. Everybody's got dead people as Rocket said..

At times it felt too much like a cartoon. You expect it to be somewhat like that. But with the flying truck, family in the bathtub and Hawkeye's "none of this makes sense" speech, I actually questioned whether Whedon was taking the piss.

I'm disappointed most with missed opportunities. They could have sewn better seeds for the Civil War setup. They wasted so much time on Ultron's failing schemes and daddy issues. They should have devoted more time to the infinity stones reveal than a few shitty, edgy dream scenes that culminated in Thor and Selvig reaching a pool we've heard fuck all about. This should have been the Avengers Empire Strikes Back to their Return of the Jedi. It feels like there's compromise and heavy editing all over this and if that's the case, great - directors cut please! Otherwise...

I'm disappointed.

GotG, Iron Man 1, Thor, First Avenger, Winter Soldier - all great.

Thor 2, IM2/3, Age of Ultron - not so much.

Absolutely. I also mostly disagree with super negative opinions I read. That being said, I'm a more traditional kind of guy, and I like for movies like this to be very centric toward hero and villain conflicts. I think Whedon's approach is usually highly anti-climactic. It leaves me feeling very cold. I'm sure I'll have fun with it, but these things usually disappoint me in the third act climax.

He's dead until SW or Strange pulls his ass out of another dimension/reality. Clint even (middle) named his kid after him.

Besides that, literally every marvel film since Avengers (except iron man 3) had a fakeout death that either just straight up didn't happen, or has since been retconned.

Avengers had coulson, Thor 2 had Loki, Winter solider had Nick Fury, Rumlow, GotG had Groot.

Maybe even earlier if you want to be picky. Loki sorta looked dead at the end of Thor 1 and Captain america attempted something suicidal in First Avenger.

So it's no surprise when I assume that Quicksilver isn't actaully dead at all. ESpecially not when they were messing around with a machine earlier in the film which can magically heal wounds.

Just got back, I enjoyed it. Ultron wasn't as fearsome as the trailer made out but it was a fun movie.

Although I shook my head at that Quicksilver death scene are you fucking kidding me!? What a waste of an interesting character.

Also dumb civilians made me roll my eyes numerous times, you have Hulk running amok lets stand and watch him,or sit in my car for some reason. Haha

Complete opposite here, think pretty much all the jokes got laughs.

Yep a lot of laughs in my audience as well.

I'm really curious as to what they were laughing at? "Beep, beep"? "Running out things to say". "Language"?

All three of those got laughs, especially all the repeated Cap language jokes, and the thor running out of things to say. Beep beep had noticeable laughter but not as much.

I don't remember the zucchini joke, remind me please.

Stark says Hulk and Widow better not be playing Hide the Zucchini.

It's because hulk is green and hung

Just saw it. Fun movie but not as much as the first. Ultron really was a bad choice of villain for this.

Am I right in thinking that that's it for Jeremy Renner in these movies?

IMO, the Hulk vs. Iron Man battle is the weakest. It's all cgi dust with Tony Stark making jokes about it.

All the other battles where the team gets to act in coordination are infinitely better. It's the type of thing I hope to see one day see in a X-Men movie and that has not been done in any other comic book movie so far.

And random comment, but people keep talking about Hawkeye having more presence in this movie, which was nice, but I didn't like how they decided to make him completely useless during fights. He was way more competent in the first movie. I'm still waiting for that unbelievable arrow shot that never happened.

Oh, and can we talk about how silly it was Thor having bruises in the Avengers Academy? Maybe I didn't pay attention, but I think not even Scarlet Witch had any more bruises from that battle.

She's seen flying in the end.

Yes, I like this costume.

Also, I really enjoyed the final Ultron drones vs Avengers battle. I thought it was really cool. And when it showed up in the form of a statue towards the end, I have to admit that I was drooling the idea of owning such statue. It'd have to be awesome quality though.

My problem with the film is mostly with the somewhat confusing middle parts where they tried to shove in too many subplots. But the action scenes were fun for me.

... Thor ... - all great.

...Thor 2 ... - not so much.

While I kinda see the point in your discussion, you totally got this opposite, and perhaps you should rewatch Thor 1, actually no, it's impossible to have a positive opinion about that movie even on the first watch.

Sorry for the derailing, just got back from the cinema, well, I do see some wasted potential here and there, but this movie was solid.
The only thing that plainly felt wrong were the nightmare sections, which had very weird cut/editing and too long screen time, but then we had the hulk buster thing that was awesome, so yeah.

I felt the movie clicked for most the viewers too, all the jokes responded with the room laughing; liked the Ultron/british humor thing, but that kind of villain gets old fast (it felt forced already with Loki in the first Avengers) but overall people seemed more concerned about his lips moving.

I'm not familiar with The Vision character, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, but I guess I could not ask more than a little plain introduction for them, perhaps making a better job on them could've lead to focus less on the main plot.

Anyway I find it super funny how both the Marvel and the DC movies universe are with the "Super heroes are bad for the planet" thing, but that's something that puts his roots in Iron Man 1.

After seeing AoU twice now in Theaters I completely understand why the next one will be 2 parts. 2 and a half hours isnt enough time to tell a really epic story and also include ways to tie into the next phase of movies. I thought the movie was good but not better than the first in alot of ways. The bad guy didnt seem as threatening or there wasnt enough tension that made you think he could actually beat the Avengers. Aslo i feel like they killed off Quicksilver because Fox is using him also and they didnt see that coming when writing the script.

Were there any really good Easter Eggs that I might have missed while watching?

Civil war is going to be a challenge as well since the comic uses alot of characters and Spider-man also was a huge focal point for that story. Is Iron man even going to be in it?

Iron Man, Black Panther, Falcon, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch are all confirmed to be in Civil War. Basically nearly everyone is in it except for the people that can't be found like Thor and Hulk. Avengers 2.5 pretty much.

And I would expect a Spider-Man cameo too, but not him to be the focal point. I think that's a good thing since you'll want the whole thing to mainly be about Cap vs Iron Man.

lol, exactly what I thought then. Ultron was such a downgrade from Loki. I don`t know how he`s portrayed in the comics but shouldn`t he be more logical and methodical? He just had his face melted then got wrecked by Hulk, and his reaction to all that was to drive-by with a weakass jet? Take your lost and go home for chrissakes. And whats the purpose of having teeth? or moving lips?

Also, I have two nitpicks. With Loki`s scepter couldn`t Ultron just brainwash the dude with the vibranium, or pretty much anyone with the authority to nuke themselves? Second, wouldn`t it be easier to dodge carry Hawkeye out of the way instead of setting up a barrier? If Pietro can move a car, he surely can shove two people. Anyway, overall I really liked the movie, felt much more action packed than the first one. I suppose that`s the benefit of being a sequel. All the avengers had similar screen time, with nice cameos of Sam, Iron Patriot and Heimdall.

I saw the movie on Friday, and have only just thought about something today.

Thanos deliberately leaves the sceptre on Earth as a means of eliminating The Avengers. When you think about it, The Other gave Loki the sceptre from Thanos during the first movie and it contains an Infinity Stone, why would he leave it there when he is collecting them. Then the sceptre becomes a sort of seed for what would become Ultron, which tries to eliminate the Avengers and fails. Then at the end he even says, I guess "I will have to it myself" which seems to suggest he wants the avengers dead.

Well Loki was supposed to win.
Had he won, Thanos would have two gems, the Mind gem(scepter) and the Space Gem(tesseract).
The collector was supposed to have the Aether and the Power gem(Orb).

If things went according to plan he would already have 4 of the six stones.

He might have his death-fetish which means he basically plans to fail as so to embrace death...but so far in the MCU his plans have always been to get the gems but these damn meddling heroes keep stopping his plans.....which is why he is now gonna just do it himself.

What if you put the hammer on top of a tree?
Itll just sit there, the same way it did when Thor put the Hammer on Lokis chest.

As in most powerful in the new team or even more powerful than Hulk and Thor?
Her abilities are a different league to Hulk and Thor.
I would rate her above because her abilities are like just hacking reality...i dont think we will ever see the limits of her powers.
Chances are the MCU will only use telekinesis and mind fuckery, but we have already seen that her hexes can essentially disintegrate matter(scream wave during Quick Silver death)

So she's an omega class mutant in the marvel comic universe...
Was actually expecting her to help blast Ultron in the scene where the other three come out and melt his face.

She isnt officially an Omega Class Mutant, but she probably is.

She did get to "kill" Ultron prime by literally ripping out his heart....another show of her strength though is that it was right through his Vibranium Armor.....Caps shield is nothing to her.

You're skipping a movie because a costume on screen for about 3-4 seconds at the end of the movie has extremely mild cleavage?

Why so serious?

Complete opposite here, think pretty much all the jokes got laughs.
Same thing at my theater. I think the only moment that didn't get a single laugh was the first time Ultron starts quipping while talking with the twins, but I felt like that was because it didn't even register as a joke to people.

Pretty much every other funny line and moment got laughs. Also, Vision lifting the hammer was met with a collective "ooohh", Pietro dying with an "awww...", and so on. Great atmosphere during the whole movie, everyone having a good time. A dude even tried to start clapping at the end but stopped when no one else did it, lol.

Did anyone else find Ultron more easy to sympathise with than Loki?
Like if you remove the Tom Hiddleston puppy dog factor from Loki and compare them both, I find Ultron much more likeable and easier to sympathise with
he's definitely much less of a sexist twit

He even shows empathy and sadness when mortal people die/get hurt/abandon him.

Even though he was kinda shit-fight wise I really did like him as a villain, much more than Loki.
Is it bad I want a brainiac 5 redeemed version of ultron

Rather than Civil War I would like to see Marvel move towards the World War Hulk storyline, it seems like they are really setting up something along those lines

We're talking about a franchise where every solo film has a 'male hero is topless' scene and people are genuinely upset because Scarlet Witch's costume shows less breast than a tank top?

Jesus Christ people, it's only the human body.

I honestly thought during the end battle that they would launch the city up into space with Hulk still on it and he would have met the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Whedon's thing is he humanizes the main villains, so they will stumble, facepalm, make up things as they go along and drop down to proud broken shells when beaten. A bit like real life bad guys.

Though I agree Star Wars might not do grey well, hence why JJ Abrams is a safe choice.

They would have to do Planet Hulk, and implicate Marvel's important characters (Iron Man, Dr. Strange, etc) in some Illuminati conspiracy. Ugh.
