Biggest Let-Downs Disappointments you've had with Gaming

After the Silent Hills news, I'm gutted-and I'm trying to think about to what other times bad news has hit to this degree.

I know I was really excited about Starcraft Ghost, and it's cancelation really bothered me, and for some reason I keep thinking Blizzard will eventually release something similar. Also, I loved the VMU feature on the Dreamcast and it's spiritual successor the Gamepad-neither of which caught on sadly.

Max Payne 3

Every article said how it was like MP1 and 2 with better Story and gameplay.

Played it and god damn those monologues were written by a 5 year old.

Also mentionable : Brutal Legend

Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway.
The difference between the E3 2005 trailer, and the release several years later was one of the first downgrades I have ever experienced.. I still get pissed off everytime I see that trailer or a bullshot they teased...

Resistance 2.
Resistance 1 was one of the best FPS i have ever played. It combined so many different franchises and had its own twist with some of the best FPS gameplay.. Then they released this garbage.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
The Order: 1886

This game had so much potential.

Hitman Absolution hit me hard.

I should have expected it, but I didn't. Even after all of the promotional material indicated what kind of game it was going to be I still believed and defended it. Willfully ignored the first reviews too.

I just wanted a new Hitman game so damn much.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2

I thought 1 was a good game that lacked polish. I was hoping 2 would make it amazing.

It didn't.

Metal Gear Solid 4. I haven't been more disappointed in anything gaming related than with his game. So sad to see the game end this way.

I'm still bitter about Valkyria Chronicles 3 being a PSP game, AGAIN and that the series died like that.

Star Wars Galaxies

the ideas surrounding the game prior to launch and in Beta were FANTASTIC. The Galactic War for Zones of Control within the various worlds. Owning a zone meant that faction would get boosts and such for its members. Becoming a Jedi was something that was supposed to be EXTREMELY rare. Only happening to a few people and those people, if they showed themselves publicly, would begin to be hunted by Darth Vader ( played by GM ) and the Empire. Death was Perma-death.

Sounded so epic and awesome. But, then the game launched and it was nothing like that and was basically a star wars social meeting spot. Especially when housing was introduced. Which was actually pretty cool no doubt. Being able to build your own towns and such.

It had its good points, but man the overall promise and potential was not at all taken advantage of.

Looking for meaning in GAF
Mass Effect 3 ending. Mass Effect 2 was one of my favorite games last generation, and then they went straight for the most ham-fisted, lowest effort shit possible with microtransactions thrown in just because they didn't give a shit anymore.

Starcraft 2. I was one of the people who was really hyped for the continuation of the story after Brood War, and then uhh... yay, standard Blizzard story template?

Valkyria Chronicles 2. I loved the first game and then the second game was such a far cry in every way that it felt kind of insulting.

yes. thank you. the incessant monologue made me quit 10 minutes into the game. there maybe a stellar game underneath it, but i'm not wading through verbal diarrhea to find out.

Brink, MCC, Sunset Overdrive, Halo 4, GOW Acension that I can riddle off the top of my head. Probably a good few more that will come to me.

- Buying Kinect believing it will be good and fun
- Buying Vita, then playing 3 games in 14 months (at least my 3yo is enjoying it now).
- GTA IV
- Resident Evil 6
- The Order

Destiny.

The beta seemed like a small slice of a bigger game.

Then you buy the game and realise the beta was actually 50% of the game,

The game has ruined hype for me. I cant trust any game developer / publisher now.

Xenoblade Chronicles. I know how much praise this games gets, but I fucking hated it. The combat was too limited with only the comboing being decent, and it has the worst questing and fame systems I have ever seen. This game gets the biggest disappointment from me because I love Xenosaga

Grand Theft Auto IV: Im not sure how this came after San Andreas...its like they forgot everything that made GTA fun. Luckily 5 was a redemption.

Mass Effect 3: All of it, not just the ending.

My expectations were way too high for the game. It's not terrible, but I was expecting to be blown away.

Resident Evil 4

I wanted this version of the game more than just about any other game. The part where the final RE4 marked the end of RE as survival horror only makes it sting even more. Because of that, the Silent Hills news isn't nearly as disappointing, but it's probably the biggest bummer since then.

Resistance 2 is a big one. Dropping the weapon wheel and losing the grittier WWII aesthetic (and at times even horror-ish elements... at least I thought so when I was 13) from Fall of Man really killed it for me.

Dead Space 3 was a disappointment from the perspective of it being a sequel, but it was a really fun co-op shooter with cool weapon customization... So that's nice at least.
