Koji Igarashi Kickstarts Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2.5D, backdash, 2018)

Look at the costumes. It looks like the same overdesigned crap you see in most JRPGs. If you want to make it look gothic, then at least make it more subdued.

The costumes would be just as complex if Kojima did the art. The only real complaint I can levy might be the rose tattoos look a bit weird but otherwise these designs are just as Castlevania-esque as most other designs in the series (at least since SOTN).

Am I the only one who likes the fact, that it's 2,5D? 2D is fucking expensive and severly limits developers on a budget, I think people don't get that.

Backed at $100.

2.5D doesn't need to be a bad thing. Hopefully it'll be more Guilty Gear Xrd in style rather than Mighty No. 9. I choose to stay positive, and believe that IGA will deliver.

I have yet to see a 2.5D game as beautiful as the best 2D games in the history of gaming.

Whatever budget this game winds up with will probably be too low to compete on a pixel art level with the best-looking 2D games. They'll get the best results for their budget with polygons.

The exact moment he seduced a community of gamers' credit cards into putting out, myself included.

I am so thrilled about this but NOT SO MUCH about the characters in the game.... Might not be getting this, the characters look like something straight out of sailor moon o.O
The guy with the silver hair and part flower mask, in black cap, NO just .. no lol.

I know i'm gona get drilled by yall in here for saying that but i mean cmon!

When Blazblue Calamity Trigger was announced a few people said it was a "Cheap game" because it didn't use 3D models.

This shit doesn't surprise me anymore.

"WHAT ABOUT NINTENDO?

Our budget left us with two options: Build the biggest, most beautiful game we can, or make sure it runs everywhere from the start. As things stand today, we can't afford to create the two separate versions of this game that would be necessary to make it run on every console. That said, we've heard legends about a remarkable treasure hidden in the castle basement..."

What is that last part about

If it's being built on Unreal Engine... i don't think a Wii U version is possible.

Looking what IC achieved with MN9 I disagree.

so you're putting 2.5D games at the top of your "best looking 2D games" list? because those games are 2.5D.

Because they had a couple of 3D elements in the 2% of the backgrounds dosn't mean they are 2.5D.

Since I don't follow MN9: Has everybody turned on it? What's so bad about it? Just the visuals?

Worst case scenario: You have to cancel the 100$ tier and pledge again for the 300$ one. I'm pretty sure there is an upgrade option though, but I can guarantee it

Repost from the closed double thread:

I certainly like my games to look good, but to be quite honest, when I'm playing an Igavania/Metroidvania game, the dead last thing I care about is the art style. Gameplay/music/world/systems are all way more important to me.

I still play SOTN and the GBA titles to this day. Like once a year.

If you wanted a new Igavania and don't back this, I will come to your house and beat you with a whip.

Correction: Beat you with the Vampire Killer.

Let's be real here.

While the Iga-vania titles had good sprite work, they recycled so much of that work over the course 15 years worth of Castlevania titles. They weren't perfect, and they showed their age significantly.

2D sprite/art work takes so much time and resources to produce, which explains why they reused so much of them.

It seems they're hinting at 1,000,000+ for Nintendo console support. I'm sure they'll hit it but I can't donate without that. Really odd to say that considering the money they're pissing away on a backer-only retail version.

Did you know that you can remove your pledge anytime?

Awesome concept art !!! :D

Inti Creates ??? :)

2.5D ??? : |

Unreal Engine ??? : /

Come on, we have seen how Mighty Nine ended, and this is exactly the same conditions.

Not going to back this. Will buy if it eventually looks good when released.

Have you looked at the rest of that?
These are just fun little goals for spreading the word. Nothing really substantial.

Edit: Can't link the image, bleh. Just scroll down a little further and it shows what the "achievements" will unlock.

Market our game to unlock new stretch goals!

Backed it at the $28 tier but I'll probably go higher. I'd love if 2 Player Productions could make a documentary for this like they did with Double Fine.

Looking at the concept art and I instantly though of Vanillaware. Would have seemed a much more logical/fitting choice for development.

I've turned a complete 180 on the 2D/2.5D stuff. 2.5D will look soooooooooooooooooooo much better in higher resolutions than 2D ever could. It's future proofing your game essentially, if they say they're gonna use UE4 and some special shaders to make it look as good as possible, I believe them. I doubt IGA would let it turn out looking like doodoo.

It's the hud right? It screams Vanillaware to me :P

Sorry, I learned my lesson with the Mighty No 9 kickstarter and I'm not going to back this until I see something more substantial than "Iga's back! Please fund his mystery game!".

Kojima designed the Aria of Sorrow characters and they were not loaded with Sailor Moon makeup.

In SOTN they did it because of the gothic theme and still the art direction made it elegant and classy. This looks ugly.

Someone talked aboyt Dust an Elysian tale. Hope this is not like that at all. What a boring and annoying game.
