Call me salty over bounty gate but this was my reaction as well. That was billed as salary cap circumvention and we lost our HC, DC, GM, AHC, 500K, and 2nd round draft picks in two consecutive years, and on top of that we had 4 players suspended from 3 games to the entire coming season. This was straight up fucking cheating coupled with a total refusal to cooperate on Brady's part and it's just a 4 game suspension, 1 mil, and a single 1st round pick. Pats fans should count themselves damn lucky they have the commish in their pockets.

I'm not sure if this is standard trolling or not but those abnormal fumble rates have been proven to be not as ridiculous as they first appeared.

I mean, I do bring up deer antler spray when talking about the '13 Ravens, but that's just because I'm a bitter Niners fan. I didn't bring up PEDs for the Seahawks or Spygate because, well, I guess I didn't care enough. It's easy to bring up the Pats titles without mentioning that stuff. Does anyone say "Oh yeah, well the '95 Niners circumvented the cap!"
 
Has the NFL ever asterisk'd or vacated any kind of title? Whether personal or team?

NCAA does it as punishment, but never heard of NFL doing it.

They need to do it. And this needs to be the one to do it on.

This is hilarious coming from a Broncos fan. Better asterisk your 98 and 99 titles too for cheating the salary cap.
 
The realistic and reasonable punishment would be for Brady and the staff members involved to have their Superbowl rings (and claim to winning it) taken away.

The overall team penalties are fine. The whole team doesn't need to lose the title, just the players and staff proven to be involved.

Because right now, the NFL is telling us that cheating to win a Superbowl has a price, but you still get to win the Superbowl.

Yeah. The Saints instituted bounties for injuring opposing players. The defensive coordinator was recorded telling his players to "kill the head."

The Pats, in the worst case, intentionally deflated footballs a slight amount to give themselves an edge.

There are videos showing the pressure difference could have been affected by the weather too. NFL is the one dealing with iffy science.


Precisely measuring the balls and getting wildly different results between two gauges.

I don't see how PEDs are at all comparable, shy of a team sanctioned program concealed by said team. Perhaps that has happened, however it has never been rooted out. Spygate was a trickle down operation that originated with the coach, and despite being exonerated of wrongdoing it is highly unlikely Belichick had no knowledge of the deflating.
 
Nobody has touched on this, but I'll say it again.

If the league knew about this before the game and allowed the balls to be deflated and destroy the integrity of the game, why didn't they prevent the Pats before the game started?

False equivalency.

Read up on what happened there:

The Denver Broncos were on the hook for approximately 100 million of the 401 million dollar cost for the construction of Sports Authority Field (at that time the new stadium or Invesco Field). This was a financial struggle for the team at the time so individuals on the back end of the financial operations made agreements with "Broncos players" (John Elway and Terrell Davis) to defer payments on their contracts to the future and in return promised to pay interest on the deferred amounts. Another player was promised that they wouldn't be waived prior to a certain date.

In other words, these were isolated infractions created by bean-counters in accounting. The team was not able to create more cap space illegally, the team was not able to sign star players because of the actions. Other than receiving immediate relief on cashflow issues directly related to the financing of the new stadium, nothing was gained---certainly not a competitive advantage gained via videotaping another team's signals or practices....nor was there a blatant breach of any NFL rule having to do with the competitive nature of the game like we see in "DeflateGate."

Bountygate is pretty much the worst conspiracy in modern sporting. But that doesn't make the Pats angels.

Its not and the NFL rules dont even think it is, but with it being big media attention all the NFL scandals this year and Pats being repeat offenders made it a bigger deal then it really is, so they went down hard on them, but some people think it was too light lol

This. The damage is done and can not be undone.

Best thing Brady can do is shut up take his medicine and keep his nose clean from now on. He should be happy with his wife and his millions but his legacy is fucked.

The hammer didn't come down hard enough, and there's no way that Tommy will be suspended four games after the appeal. As a Saints fan who lost his head coach for an entire season (of course the bounty system was inexcusable), a repeat offender of a franchise like the Patriots deserves so much worse. Fuck the Patriots.

Funny part is that honing in on sideline signals and changing the pressure of footballs probably had an extremely minimal impact on the Patriots success. Mindblowing to me that they thought they needed to gain an unfair advantage to win when they obviously are the model franchise of the NFL for the last 15 years. A cheater is a cheater, and the Patriots are owned by a cheater, coached by a cheater, and quarterbacked by a cheater. Bright side, at least the Patriots didn't murder anybody.
 
This is a blessing in disguise for the patriots. Force them to use garpollo for the first 4 games - they will know very quickly if is Brady's successor.
