So, regarding side/fetch quests (very slight spoilers):
VanOrd said early in the game, there is a quest that you may or may not encounter where
a girl may end up chained to a post on an island, sentenced to starve to death.
Hours later, as he was sailing around, lo and behold he found a random island with a dead body chained to a post, and Geralt goes into an internal monologue on death, God, etc.
BUT--there was never any mission assigned to "go to island and pay respects" or anything like that. It felt like a natural occurence in the game world, and stuff like that happens all the time.
For the record, he had two crashes in 100 hours of playtime.
That IGN review doesn't match the score they gave it. It's just i as I thought, 100 hours with loads of padding and meaningless fetch quests, exactly the same as dragon Age Inquisition. The first paragraph was about how huge the open world was.. Same as da:I. Combine this with the shitty UI and inventory system means it's not a purchase for me.
The talk about fetch quests has me worried, but the rest seems positive. Then again I don't put much stock in prerelease reviews as the more often then not for big games like this they are pretty much big sloppy blowjobs in written form. I am still skeptical CDPR can make and open world game and avoid the pitfalls that have ruined so many others.
I don't know anything about Assassin's Creed, so this doesn't tell me anything. Regardless, your definition of "pointless" probably isn't dependent on that knowledge.
(I'm not setting up a snarky rebuttal or anything, I'm genuinely curious. Pointless for some people is different for others, depending on how invested they are in the game world)
The discussion on fetch quests has already happened. These aren't context-less side-quest that DA:I was so abundant with. There are stories around the side-quests that give them meaning.
But if you don't like concept at its core of "fetching" something or "killing x monster", then, well, I don't know what to tell ya, but stuff like that makes up the majority of quest objectives in most RPGs.

That's pretty cool. I really hope stuff like that does actually happen often as he says. I wish more games did this. That's the kind of thing that makes for a more immersive/living world imo and let's you know the game is something special.

Yep, I'm gonna be playing on PC but seeing how good the game looks on console makes me happy since everyone is gonna be able to enjoy the great visuals.

Love how hard people are trying to say this game looks bad. Meanwhile, I'm over here on the edge of my seat waiting to get my hands on it. It looks great and can't wait to get back to Temeria.
One week left to finish my third playthrough of Witcher 2.
DA:I was awesome. We got a real problem with the very vocal minority being given far too much credibility and importance nowadays.
They're armchair critics, being super cynical is the new thing, and most people don't want to look stupid or feel like they got fooled out of $60 so more and more people are listening to these cynics, without ever having played the game themselves. It's ridiculous. The only way you can know if a game vibes with you is to personally pick up a controller (or KB/mouse) and give it a shot.
I didn't read all the reviews so I was just guessing. That IGN review was the only one I saw too. It's just that some people seemed to be taking the IGN review as gospel on that point and ignoring all the others.

I got DAI as a gift and it was awful from start to finish. With differing opinions like "it was awesome" you shouldn't wonder why people are skeptical about so many games.
Wow seems like a massive critical hit so far. I'm happy for everyone who has been waiting for this game so long. Never got really warm with The Witcher games. Maybe I should give it another try
My pleasure .. some reviews have great shots, some have uninteresting and some are using press shots in their reviews, I try only to pick some really nice ones - I don't know why, but the best ones are in german reviews
After some thinking about this, I'm going to post this screen - looks great and CD Projekt RED even posted one official shot from this area

Anybody have an idea how well this will run on an 860m? I'm getting hyped, but starting to question if I should preorder another copy for the PS4 in the case it doesn't run well on my PC.
