nis japan's plans for the new year:
-keep making new intellectual properties
-witch and the hundred knight ps4
-start supporting steam
-develop for mobile

-expand more overseas
-improve/strengthen relationship with nisa
-improve/strengthen human resources and management

Start steam support ?!?!

steam's starting to become the home for niche JRPGs and bad final fantasy ports. Didn't think i'd see the day, but here we are

Cool stuff other than that mobile bit, to be expected I guess. Glad NISA is such a big arrow in their quivver. Interested to see what they come up with for Steam, and hopefully they start localizing closer to release!

Steam would hardly be my first choice of platforms but any expansion is sorely needed for them. Mobile is a no-brainer, especially for NIS they could be very competent at it since most of their games are simplistic with good grind mechanics.

Also, congrats NISA.

I'll believe they are ready to "support" steam when they do more than unceremoniously dump their games on there without any fanfare and never acknowledge them again.

Have they ever released a Steam product? Interested to know what they port first.

Has not been discounted/promoted since... ever?
Also, this is what the PC version looks like:

NIS have said just few weeks ago that all their games will be exclusively on PS4 and now " steam support " ? lol...

Disgaea 5 was a flop from what I hear. I don't know how big of one it was but, it seemed really big.

Now that you mention it. The game has never been discounted has it? I guess they thought it would just sell like mad because it was on Steam or something with no advertising.

Forgot to include "mobile" in the title, but they're going into that too, as Anihawk indicated was part of their plans.

The things I would do to get the Disgaea series on Steam...

I'd imagine they would be able to run on almost anything, too.

They would probably more CPU intensive than GPU intensive. There will probably be someone's PC out there that can't handle a billion numbers on screen lol.

"new games".
We can see an ASW situation here.

"If you want Disgaea 5 on PC we will need a million copies each of 1, 2, 3, and 4."

Reason why people asking for Guilty Gear XRD on Steam I call crazy btw. It can happen I just think it's anytime soon.

It sold ~23K opening week. Lasted 2 more weeks before falling out of the Media Create top 50.

Well Disgaea 5 didnt sell that well in Japan compared to the fourth entry. So its not a big suprise that they need to expand there market.

Disgaea 4 :The game sold 79,425 copies in its first week in Japan
Disgaea 5 :The game sold 22,725 physical retail copies within its first week of release in Japan.

People who didn't have a playstation should really play Disgaea 1 at the very least anyway, even if the stories are disconnected I wouldn't really recommend jumping off the deep end.

It's PC, and they're a small, Japanese publisher. I mean what are they supposed to do? Run superbowl ads?

It's a Japanese-focused company. Since Steam is only big in the rest of the world, they probably still regard their games as PlayStation exclusive, even if they get Steam ports for the overseas market.

1. eww mobile.
mobile gaming was a mistake, its nothing but trash.

2. OH JOY PC SUPPORT!! I really hope supporting steam increases their profits by a lot. Prinnies must not die, we must save NISA from bankruptcy.

Reminder that NIS was saying they needed it to hit 150k.

Tweet about it? Send out e-mails? Facebook posts? Steam Sales? Those things seems to work well for Falcom's Steam games.

NIS may be a small Japanese company, but they still have an american branch that is more than capable of drumming up some kind of social media recognition of their stuff.

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
Will be great to see some Disgaea on STEAM/mobile! Heck, maybe its time they translate that Danganronpa games on the ios!!

Lol.

What I was getting at though is that if they work like ASW or something they probably want X sales of one game you may have already played for another one.

I still have Phantom Brave on the PS2 that was my first real NIS game (There was Ateilir Iris 1 but I don't count that.) that I never finished. Mainly because out of all the games I picked to start with NIS back in 2005, I picked one of the harder games. Disgaea wouldn't be that bad I don't think to start with.

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Disgaea on Steam/iPad - No Brainer (you would think). Not even the latest one start porting the first games and they would sell decently on these system.

Niche devs should stop playing hard to get and make some money.

Releasing it exclusively on PS4 was nonsensical, but hopefully it will get some help from western sales at least. Happy to see another Japanese publisher double down on Steam. I'll be there with my money, of course.

Oh I know that too, I'm sure they'll want to get their money out of their backlog, but I think anyone who hasn't played Disgaea should start with Disgaea 1. Easily the best story, introduces everyone's favorite main characters, and though it lacks many niceties/grind reducers, it's also a bit simpler than later games as well. Disgaea 4 has all that pirate crap and super weird map-building thing for your created characters, 3 has the character world. D2 has the worst story but is otherwise pretty nice and streamlined.
