Aside from a few set pieces, Uncharted 2 is aweful

I can defintely see why some people don't like uncharted, but for me uncharted 2 was the best of the series. 3 being the absolute worst without a doubt.

Uncharted aside though, infamous sums up what's wrong with these new gen of consoles. Second son looks incredible but they forgot to actually focus on other aspects, repetitive side missions killed it for me. Infamous 2 was much more fun, and while it doesn't look anywhere near as good as second son, I have more fun playing it.

I'm a graphics whore, I love good graphics, but ultimately once the novelty of the graphics wears off the gameplay is the only thing that can keep you interested.

The order is a perfect example that graphics alone is not enough, but using sonys exclusives it seems the main focus is on graphics....maybe that's why I have more fun playing something like Mario kart 8, even high the jaggies look terrible most of the time I forget it as I'm having fun. I'd love the graphics to be better no doubt, but I'd rather play a game that's fun with worse graphics, than a game that looks incredible but has as much gameplay as the order.

Last gen it seems I got both graphics and gameplay e.g gears which looked incredible, had an enjoyable co op campaign and really fun multiplayer. This gen I'm getting the graphics (after numerous patches) but not the gameplay to keep me hooked.

Is it not worrying that the best games of this gen are remasters lol. I've had more fun with last of us, and gta v. I'm also looking forward to God of war 3 and gears of war more than anything else that's due to be released soon.

I am not trying to be dramatic when I say that I thought Fallout New Vegas was a bad game. I loved Fallout 3, and I practically got 100% in that game, so I was really excited for New Vegas.

I had several times in-game where I was walking for 5+ minutes without encountering any enemies or events. In F3, I felt that I was always running into something to do. The New Vegas landscape was just so damn drab to me. I thought about making a thread for this, but my close friend and I don't understand how one can like New Vegas more than 3. I played through the campaign, but I was disappointed most of the time. I finally started having fun near the end, with some of the crazy weapons, but then it ends and takes them away.

Is it the side quests that people loved? I didn't play any that seemed as awesome as the ones in 3. I really wanted to like it, but the drab environment, insane number of bugs (I played over a year after launch, too), and the quest I wasn't really into all made me so confused about the hype it had.

Have you played the original Fallout games? and if you have, did you enjoy them?

I ask because it seems from my experience that the people who enjoy Fallout 1 + 2 enjoy New Vegas a lot more than FO3. I prefer New Vegas because the dialogue and side quests and general "feel" of the game felt a lot more like the often hilarious fallout 1 + 2. The setting of the capitol wasteland wasn't really conducive to that type of atmosphere IMO because it was a lot more industrial and drab than the Mojave. I liked the exploration and faction stuff way better in NV and I thought on average the characters were a lot more colorful than in FO3. FO3 is a real good game that I love, but I don't think it's as good of a Fallout game as New Vegas is.

There hasn't been a reason to own a console over a PC or handheld for about four years now. How the PS4 is selling so well is baffling to me

Controversial opinions? I have plenty of those...

I guess the most innocuous opinion is that Sonic and the Secret Rings was super underrated and had the best platforming in any 3d Sonic. Hell, I'll go as far as to say the best platforming in any Sonic title ever. And I'm a day 1 Sonic fan. The game was difficult without being frustrating while also giving a good amount of variety for a solo Sonica title. If I were to make a new Sonic game. I'd make a sequel to Secret Rings.

The Black Knight was a travesty piece of shovelware. Not only was the level design absolutely terrible but they actually made it harder to control. Lets never speak of that game again.

I have a couple new one.

Bloodborne isn't as good as Dark Souls and Demon's Souls. The chalice dungeons completely kill the quality of the game.
That's good to hear as I am more and more warming up to the idea of never buying a PS4 (or any other current gen console). Bloodborne almost pushed me over the edge a few months ago, but I've read similar opinions that, while good, it isn't anything kind blowing

I agree wholeheartedly.

The boss fights in the Souls/Bloodborne games are generally pretty terrible in my opinion. So many of them boil down to tedious dodge/slash mechanics, oftentimes you're constantly fighting the camera, there's very little visual feedback when you land hits, the bosses often have cheap one hit kills and stunlocks with unclear "rules" as to how they can be avoided, the games force you to repeat previously played sections to encounter the boss again, the list goes on. I really enjoy the games themselves but the boss battles are almost never fun for me.

Good ol' confirmation bias.

Good ol' confirmation bias.
If I'm shelling out $500+ for a system just to play one game for the foreseeable future, it better be worth it. Hearing it's not even up to par with Demon's and Dark Souls makes me feel like it's not worth my time or monthly at this juncture.

Uncharted 1 was the best installment in the series. However U3 multiplayer was better than U2 MP.
Or I should rather say - Uncharted 2 and 3 are downright boring games.

I base my opinion on the fact, that U1 had the most "rich" gameplay along with the best puzzles - but both elements still had a lot of space for improvement.

Uncharted is neither a superb shooter nor a great adventure game, Gears of War does it better with the shooting and Tomb Raider does it better with the puzzles and adventure. However - Uncharted has the best story.

And therefore it had sooo much potential to be the perfect and superior to Tomb Raider adventure game with great puzzles.

I don't understand what's so great about God of War - I couldn't force myself to continue playing the game. After 2-3 hours I had enough. Tried it with the first and second installment. Brainless button smashing.

Thank you for this thread! What a relief! :D

I don't remember the encounter rate between the games. I think the biggest difference between F3 and NV was the story. Crazy things happen in both games but in NV things make more sense. This is the quest in F3 that made me quit the game for good. It just felt so lazy. The only explanation you get from one of the NPCs is, "It's ridiculous, I know."

Perhaps there rate of encounters was high in F3. But encounters were more rewarding in NV because they made sense.

- Every Final Fantasy sucks for me, besides FFX and FFXII.

- FFX is the best JRPG ever made

I'll give those two games credit where it's due. FFX is the least worst Final Fantasy game in the post Golden era of FF games and FFXII had an excellent world and voice acting.

Other than that they are mediocre and forgettable and only stand out thanks to their legacy or popularity. I'm glad you found a great deal of enjoyment in them, I just didn't share your experience.

I think all the Souls games and Bloodborne are boring because they are too easy.

This is not a troll I beat them quite easily and don't understand the hype around the difficulty...

I don't consider them difficult games, but I can understand why they would appear to be to unobservant or inpatient eyes.

Agreed.

Bosses in Souls almost never have one-hit kills because their damage somewhat scales to your level. It's one of the things that makes low-level runs tolerable.

Bloodborne has less damage scaling, so bosses will kill you in one hit a lot more, especially if you're hit while evading (which increases the damage). Increasing vitality is definitely necessary to avoid one-shots.

Even stun-locks aren't that much of an issue; if you want to see real obnoxious stun-locking, play Monster Hunter at G-rank where getting knocked down can be a death sentence.

Most bosses have very clear and predictable attack patterns with obvious wind-ups and cues. Even the harder to avoid attacks have subtle cues, like Ebrietas closing her mouth and lowering her head before a charge or the Bloodletting Beast roaring right before it releases a lightning-fast punch.

The only point you really have is that the camera can get dreadful. Knowing when to manually control it and when to lock-on helps, but the Bloodletting Beast will always have a shittacular camera with how it continuously walks up right in your face.

Final Fantasy VI could cut out a few chapters and missions, it falls apart in
The World of Ruin when you're recollecting your friends.
I never picked it back up out of boredom.

That's exactly what happened to me. The strange thing is that I really prefer open-world style over linearity, but this one made me stop playing that game. And I don't think that I can beat the final boss on lv. 30.

Playing (most) mobile games does not make you a gamer, and neither does playing Sudoku on your computer. Sorry Candy Crush Addicts! I hate those polls that come out every year saying "THIS % of [fill in a group of people here] ARE NOW GAMERS! IT'S LIKE A 300% INCREASE"

Also..Alpha Protocol is so terrible, people only like it because the cutscenes are interactive.

I was bored playing TLOU.

I enjoyed it but it wasn't as good as people would have you believe. The story is good for a game, but there's not much competition to be fair.

If they used the story as a tv show, or movie it wouldn't be anything that hadn't been done before.

And the gameplay on it's own isn't all that great.

While it sounds like I'm contradicting myself, I did enjoy it, and it's been one of the best games I've played on the ps4 so far (never played it on ps3) but that's down to not having much good to play on the ps4 rather than last of us being the greatest thing ever.

I find halo to be a bad game I played one and two and 3 just because every one was talking it up so much but I just can not get into halo and find it a bad game

Lol there I said it lol

Haha sorry

I couldn't get into Resident Evil 4. At all.

I didn't like the story, I didn't like the characters, I didn't like the gameplay mechanics, I didn't like the enemies, I didn't like the atmosphere of the game. Nothing at all. I think I had more fun playing Code Veronica X, and that was a game that felt like a chore from start to finish.

I guess I can see why people like it so much, but it did absolutely nothing for me. It's not even that I want zombies or the "old" RE formula. I played RE5 a bit and it seemed fine as an action game. I think my issue with RE4 is that it tries to be both old-school RE and a balls-out third person shooter, and, IMO, it's good at neither of those.

You have my shield friend. It also didn't help they showed that omg amazing trailer of a Re 1/2/3 style RE 4, damn that still haunts my dreams.

Aside from a few set pieces, Uncharted 2 is aweful

The last part of the game was certainly bad, supernatural bullshit, obnoxious bullet-sponge enemies coming out of the woodwork, and a terrible final boss fight capped with a hilariously bad "we're not so different" monologue from Naughty Dog's lame war criminal villain.

Also I am not sure why the writing in this game was praised when outside of some dialogue from a few cardboard characters it was just as inept as your usual videogame fare.

Great production values though.

Then you'll love RE6!

I think Skyrim and Fallout 3 are amazing games.

I think Skyrim lost that magic for me, but I still found it to be very enjoyable through all the content. Nowhere near as bad as one would believe in reading a lot of threads on them.
