Splatoon |OT| Squidstyler

This game is all about wasting the other team's time.

I start most matches by blazing a trail to the front line. I do this because nine out of 10 times, my teammates do the opposite and start painting our territory. If I can meet the enemies at the middle of the map (or ideally, while they're still at their end), and if I can spray at least a bit of paint and maybe throw a desperation grenade, it'll waste juuuuuust enough of their time that either 1) my teammates will have caught up and continue to distract them, and/or 2) my teammates will have painted in a good portion of the map behind me.

This is more or less my priority on every map except Saltspray Rig and Blackbelly Skatepark, where the objective instead becomes taking the high ground and muddying the ground near the enemy's side of the tower.

Arowana Mall is also interesting. You have the middle halfpipe with the two scaffoldings on either side. If you can take one of those scaffoldings and avoid snipers from the opposite and adjacent platforms, you can keep the halfpipe in your team's colors and repeatedly plant bombs in the blind spot on the other side of the enemy's ramp.

None of this is failproof, of course. I've still lost many matches doing this. But these seem to be good priorities during the first half of a match.

When it comes to the second half... I sometimes have success trying to push as far into enemy territory as possible, but I'm starting to think it's better to backup your teammates in the middle and push as a front toward the enemy.

Oh my god you're me.

Seriously I play mind games constantly, all the time. Get in their base to freak them out and make them waste time repainting it instead of moving to the front lines. Pop out of a hallway near their base and say "hi," hoping they will chase you back there where you can kill them with a strategic bomb.

I'm horrible at combat, that's why I use the jr. with its bubbler. But I'm awesome at paint coverage and mind games, and I'm getting pretty good at fancy footwork.

Everyone is so intent on killing other players when they encounter them that they just don't know what to do when the other player just starts dodging all over the place. Some of the best times I've had have been bouncing around like an asshole rabbit, seeing that enemy ink on my trail, painting and dashing as fast as I can just wasting their time by running in circles.

Yup.

Can't wait for Octolings to be playable. I mean, it is only a matter of time. Right?

I hope so, they're cool looking. While they're at it, I hope they give us gear that reflects the lookof the shopkeepers. Annie's & Spyke's "Hair" as hats, Sean's Tempura Jacket, Jelonzo's scarf & shirt (seriously can I have this please), etc.

Honestly, the visual design in this game is ace, but the characters themselves are just too good. The nautical theme really lends itself well to some visually interesting designs.

Having Annie's "anemone" hair with Moe (floating around it) would be so funny. And I love Jelonzo's outfit. So yes, please.

I need the Ninja Shirt, dammit!

If you ever play against someone who have it. After the match, return immediatly to the plaza and you should find the player avatar in front of the lobby tower so you can inspect him and order his gear.
That's a lame way to get your gear though :P

If octolings would be playable they'd have to mingle with the inklings in the main hub. Wouldn't that be awkward since they kind of hate each other? Unless they make a seperate hub for them which I doubt.

I like to think of it this way a lot too. Feels like time is one of the key resources in this game.

Painting the base is important too though, since those spots are much less likely to be re-taken.

I disagree about the importance of painting the base.

Covering enemy ink essentially counts double for you - erasing their progress, and adding to your own.

Many times I've seen the map with our base mostly unpainted, just lines straight toward the enemy base, vs. a fully colored in enemy base.

All of us in their base covering up their color, that counts double. If any of them get in our base? All those empty areas they have to paint are a less efficient use of their time. Plus, because it's our own base and spawn point, it's easy for us to cover it back up.

We may have to wait for a sequel to play as actual Octolings, but a version of the visor with an octopus wig might be a nice addition for now.

And include that swanky noir style jazz music. I think we're on to something.

Squid jazz would be amazing - I hope the game's continual support includes a constantly-expanding soundtrack. Splatoon's soundtrack might be the best thing Minegishi has ever done, and I'd love to see him cover more genres in its unique style.

Mods are gonna splat us soon ゚д゚
I do hope a mod steps in, like one did back in the early Smash 4 threads. Call me grumpy but I'd prefer to not see NSFW content being posted here.

Edit: Just to make this clear, my post isn't referring directly to pinkurocket's post. Their post wasn't the first containing NSFW content posted here.

>_> Uh... maybe they could add an epilogue to the hero mode where the octolings and inklings stop hating each other and become friends? lol

It wasn't so much the content, more the fact that it made it into inkopolis considering Miiverse is so strict on that kinda content.
My apologies again.
is my avatar also bad?

Can someone explain to me why the Ninja Suid ability is so good, and what weapons it tends to benefit? I tried utilizing it and it doesn't really work out for me, and I've had no problems flushing out anyone wearing it.

Post possible fresh scenarios and strats if you can.

I think your avatar is fine. :) And sorry if I sounded harsh.

By the way, is there a way to report that kind of miiverse post?

In typical Nintendo fashion Peach stops by and bakes everyone cake and they live happily ever after.

Oh that's fucking bullshit - if you get a communication error and disconnect from a match, you lose 10 points in Ranked every time it appears. I was just at 20 on B+, got two communication errors in a row and now I'm at 0!

when you get ambushed by a roller, see your entire team get trashed by the same guy alone in the killcam and then two respawned mates immediately run into the now activated kraken you might as well turn off the console

they can't see you when you hide in ink, so you can ambush them or escape a roller or kraken
it's pretty great for every weapon, splattershots and rollers specifically (I use it with a charger)

ok, a situation that happens pretty frequently - someone jumps you, you go into hiding, they know you are there but can't find you, you flank them and splatter them

I think there were some gaffers using it with rollers, popping out and OHKOing my ass.

I really dislike the mall level with the halfpipe in the middle. I always get stuck in the geometry up there. Never fails.

Ohh that explains the dynamo roller hiding in the ink besides a capture point in a ranked match, only to pop out when someone was near and take them down instantly. :I

Don't they only hate each other because it was a forced land dispute? They might be able to figure something out eventually.

Well, the credit sequences have doodle where we can see Inkling and Octoling being friendly with each other. And the scroll reveal they were friend once so they don't have to hate each other. And seriously, seeing the tone of the game, they can make any excuse to make thing work if they want.

I must be blind because I never find the report button there. Will check it out again later.

I believe it's on the right side of the user's post.

I remember I reported one picture someone had posted yesterday.

He inked an swastika on the ground of the practice level and shared the picture in miiverse

Quite facepalmic

I'm actually considering to use ninja squid as I've noticed alot of people have become really good at both spotting me while swimming and read where I'm heading towards.

If we duel each other in an open space and there are two possible ink paths I could take while swimming using the ability, that means it's more likely I will have my crosshair placed on you as I know your position while you don't, or well, there's a 50/50 shot you guessed my actual path. So yeah I feel it gives me a substantial advantage. You're pretty much dead if I have my crosshair on you and you don't have it on me.
