A Splatoon 3D platformer: you know you want it

I would definitely be down for a more fleshed out version of the single player campaign. I had a good time with what was there and I'd happily play a game with the same mechanics but more variety in environments and the like.

I want Splatoon everything.

3D Ratchet and Clank style game.
2D Contra style game with painting mechanics
Mobile/handheld Advance Wars style game.

I just love the universe and think it's ripe for gameplay mechanic exploration!

A good 5 or so hours of singleplayer content. The game should launch with 15 or so MP maps, several various modes and also a map maker so the community can built and share new Splatoon zones. These maps are then added to the Splatoon Testing Range and if they perform well, they get added to regular rotation.

Just what the Wii U needs...MORE platformers. No. Just fucking stop already. There's already a shit-ton available for that system...with more on the way.

I'd like to see Spla2n expand on the single player a bit, yes

I'd also like to see what we get out of Splatoon come August be there launch day for spla2n

I wouldn't mind a tad longer campaign in a sequel. But I doubt I'd buy a single player only game as I'm not that into platformers these days. The occasional Mario game is more than enough for me.

Soo....

Last night, I thought about having a Splatoon RPG.

This was mostly spurred on by the amazing hub station.

While this is sarcasm I think it would be cool if in the Splatoon sequel you can choose to be a Squid or an Octo and invade other players campaign sort of like Dark Souls.

Who made splatoon? It wasn't ead tokyo was it?

The original dev team was absorbed into EAD after they completed their prototype.

Just let me go beyond the walls of these constricted areas. I want to run around the city, spraying buildings and cars. Just looking at the background of Blackbelly Skatepark makes me feel like there's so much more out there.

I'm addicted by multiplayer, 10 hours in and still didn't tried single player XD

Anyway I'm gaining decent skills in multy and now I'm starting navigate the map in new ways, using walls, jumps and transformation, all is incredibly smooth, I think that a Splatoon 3D platform would be great. (And obviously I'll try single player soon)

It's not the next step when it's a part of the game already. :P

I'd be down for a more complex/longer campaign in a sequel though, but the focus is definitely multiplayer and I love it for that. Next game needs to have 4v4, 6v6 and 8v8 modes.

I would assume that the sequel (there has to be a sequel) will have a more fleshed out and longer SP mode on top of the MP. Kinda like how many have stated Smash 64 and then Melee

Don't get me wrong, the current single-player is great, it just feels more... low-budget... then I'd imagine a full-fledged single-player Nintendo game would.
That's because it is, it a sent meant to be this huge big budget game, it only is getting this marketing push because of the overwhelming positivity it's gotten

I think it was EAD 2, though it seems like they juggle a lot of people around the different EAD-teams depending on the scales of the projects they're working on (?) so what number it is may not matter so much. But it's definitely EAD Kyoto, not Tokyo.

I thought this exactly while playing the campaign. A fully fleshed out adventure like Ratchet and Clank would be perfect for this game.

Its already there, its right in the game.
Unless we're doing that "no i mean a REAL 3d platformer" bullshit nonsense just because its not like mario 64 or something

Why does it have to be a separate game?

I agree though, Splatoon's single player is fantastic. This is what Super Mario 3D World should have been.

Actually, I think combined with the multiplayer it is a fairly high budget title (within the context of Nintendo—they always seem to spend a bit less than most AAA game devs), especially when you consider how many maps are eventually going to be rolled out (to maintain interest over time).

I think the singleplayer is low budget because they spent a lot of budget on multiplayer. That's why I'd like to see a singleplayer-focused title.

I think maybe OP should have said "a fleshed out version of Splatoon's single player" instead to avoid responses like this. Because I'm pretty sure that's what they meant. It plays nothing like other platformers and I'm not even sure I'd call it one myself.

I just want a day, evening, and night cycle in multiplayer. The night stages in the campaign look great. Oh and some way for Nintendo to incorporate some of the campaign mechanics into multiplayer (sponges, ziplines, sqee-gs, turrets, etc). It would be so crazy.

I would rather have more levels just like the campaign. I love the smaller objective based Mario Galaxy style levels.

I'm down for DLC

If there would be a second platformer campaign in Splatoon, one thing they could "easily" do with the current system is an more open world platformer with different checkpoint in different directions. That way, the checkpoints could be superjumpable from the Gamepad, just as in the current single player hub.

I agree though, Splatoon's single player is fantastic. This is what Super Mario 3D World should have been.

It is an odd request. It's like asking for CoD campaign to be sold separately after previous entry bundled it in.

As I stated, current campaign was much more than I expected and is awesome in its' own right. But it still feels more like a mission/training mode to me than a full-on Galaxy-style adventure. I'm talking about something like Mario 64 or Banjo where you get to explore larger, more open worlds. Along with more traditional collectables and gaining different mechanics/weapons as you go. Essentially what Yooka Laylee is going for.

If love to play a game like that with Splatoon mechanics/characters. It would be like Nintendo's answer to Ratchet and Clank.
Fair enough, watch out for Spla2oon on NX coming 2019 with exactly what you are looking for.

And again, to be clear, not at the expense of MP. MP is the heart and soul of the game and should always be prominently featured. Don't forget classic 3D platformers like Banjo and Conker also featured incredible MP.

As for how the Splatoon adventure would work, I'm already seeing areas in the first few missions where you have to precisely splatter ink in one spot to pull off the perfect squid jump to a high ledge. Also, splattering walls and using them to traverse reminds me a lot if the excellent wall moving mechanic in A Link Between Worlds.

That's just two examples of how Splatoon's mechanics would work really well in a larger 3D platformer adventure. If they were applied to a larger open world with more collectible a and more environments (a la 3D Mario), then you could have something really cool and unique.

I do want it, but there's an awkwardness of scale, I think; the mobillity mechanic would be a bit tedious when applied over travelling a long distance, and a lot of visual progression as you traverse the environment could get somewhat lost when the floor is being relentlessly inked over.

There's a great potenital game in there, but I fear the joy of the ink/swim mechanic would become a problem without some very careful thought and redesign.

Anyway I'm pretty sure that we'll not see a Splatoon sequel until the next Nintendo console will be out, but they'll continue to update this like they do with Smash and Mario Kart.

I'd love more of what's in the singleplayer - if I had a complaint it's that there isn't enough there, and while multiplayer is fun it doesn't seem to be doing as much for me as everyone else.

I resent that the amiibo stuff is locked away (and no regular price figures anywhere to be found here), because I'd love to have even challenges based around existing levels.

Nah.

Let this game be this game, and not another platformer.

Just what the Wii U needs...MORE platformers. No. Just fucking stop already. There's already a shit-ton available for that system...with more on the way.
Pretty much. Nintendo already has several platforming franchises. They don't need to turn IPs that aren't platformers into platformers.

Next you'll be asking for Zelda platformers (Adventure of Link notwithstanding), F-Zero platformers, Fire Emblem platformers...

It wouldn't be "just another platformer."

The singleplayer in Splatoon plays VERY differently from your standard platformer.
That's because Splatoon is a third-person shooter, not a platformer. It has mild platforming elements from what I've seen, but it's hardly its forte.

As tempting as this sounds, I'd rather not. Nintendo comes up with unique gameplay and people want them to revert to a Mario-like experience? I don't want this new experience to be homogenized. Splatoon needs its own identity. Rather focus on the online and shooting mechanics.
You took the words right out of my mouth.
