Final Fantasy XV Episode Duscae 2.0 |OT| This is a fantasy based on feedback.

The last time they talked about airships they made it sound like they mastered seamlessness on the ground ( most likely using clever level design to limit visibility). If I had to guess I'd say it will be seamless with pockets of open world areas connected by canyons, tunnels, and oceans. Even in the demo they show how they barricade certain areas with impassable trees/bushes, steep rocks, etc.

That said, for linear areas(like the behemoth's den and the dungeon) they'll probably continue to employ less subtle tricks like fully enclosing you in the area with high walls or entering a cave to limit outside visibility and "controllable cutscenes" to mask loads within the area.

I agree too.

I mean XBX has a massive world and all we are hearing is how it is "boring". Nothing wrong with Zones as long as they can make the traveling throughout these zones full of genuine fun stuff to do and explore, and not some boring ass quests =/

Tales of Zestiria suffered from the same problem.

yeah, this combat system still looks very half-baked (& not a whole lotta fun) to me. the words 'unnecessarily over-complicated' come to mind :) ...
????

1. I hope you realize that the post you quoted was a joke and not insulting the combat system

2. Have you actually played it yourself?

When you finish Gladio's tour, go back to the camp fire where you got his tour mission. Rest and another tour mission starts with Prompto and will have you fighting one.

Nope...not happening. Rested at each rest point at least once and no mission is popping up. I think after the gladio mission though I rested at another rest point, so not sure thats why its messed up?

What even was the side content in that game? I never heard a word about it (although I didn't read as much about that as I read about XCX).
Is it like Xenoblade? With a bunch of NPCs that give you fetch quest?

Either way, FFXV is at least going to have mini games and (hopefully) Chocobo Breeding, so even if there is fetching stuff they won't be as hard to ignore.

I beat the Catoblepas without Ramuh lol took 23 mins or so it was funny, uploading if anyone wants to see.

? This also happens in action games with great combat, DMC, Ninja Gaiden Black, etc. I also didn't use any of the lock-on systems in that gif. Don't knock it before you try it. :P

True but not much it seems. Wasn't the blood originally going to be like dark blue or purple?

Purple blood is still there. Hard to see when the camera is pulled back most of the time and how hectic fights get.

Hmm, I dunno. I rested both times at the campsite right next to the Behemoth and it triggered the tour quests.

Yeah, and the lighting quality and amount of detail they've put into the catoblepas is awesome. Can't imagine what Adamantoise is going to look like up close.
Tabata really needs to let us turn the whole HUD off...

Prompto's about to get his ass sucked into its nose.

That PBR.

It seems like so far they're doing the "look there's random filler content everywhere. Here are the quest markers where you have to go. Go nuts" open world design. At least the electrical towers aren't used to reveal the map :p

One of my biggest concerns is their side content when it launches. Outside of that cave, I wouldn't care if I never seen or have played those side missions again. They were utterly pointless.

Yeah I agree. They need to focus on meaningful side content not random MMO-style fetch filler that populates a lot of popular western games these days.

Yes, yes, yes. My main concern as of now.
Hope TW3 shook them off and take inspiration from it instead of Ubisoft's titles.

I love Chrono Trigger style side-content. Few, but extremely high in quality. However, that just doesn't sound realistic for an open-world game.

Ah awesome, thanks man! I'm sure I rested at the behemoth camp before, but just went again now (After pressing return to rest point if that made a difference then walking there), and it's appeared now. Phew! Was worried I'd have to start over! (Losing my lvl 99 characters and every side mission done I believe..)

Jesus, that catoblepas is amazing to look at up close. Seeing it move towards Prompto during the tour mission really put into perspective just how massive and detailed it was. I'm nowhere near ready to fight i after seeing it oneshot half of my party. What impressive detail they've put into this world.

Is this a subtle dig at the Ebony engine? lol

There is a coffee named Ebony also in the gas station

Downloaded and tried the demo

Pros are :

- Gameplay
- New dialogues

Cons are :

- Framerate is still an issue
- Oh gosh that camera against Deadeye...

Need to beat that Catoblepas but I lost my skills

Have any of you found it more difficult to force the Vanquish attack? It seems like if you use the same timing as in 1.0 (briefly stopping your attack, letting your ravage weapon disappear, and then attacking again) just restarts the whole attack chain. There were a few times when I was able to use Vanquish midway through a fight, but I'm not sure of the timing anymore. Anyone have a clearer idea?

I downloaded the update but I'm playing Duscae for the first time.

Does the update only change stuff from when you first finish the demo?

The complete game or the second demo that will be released later. Everyone knew that Episode Duscae would be largely incomplete
No one knew the "second" demo was going to happen so how do you wait for that. They should have just waited until now to release the demo as it is in 2.0 form because 1.0 was not a proper representation of the game.

Performance wise, Frame rate is a step up from 1.0 but there are still drops to sub-30 fps.

Not really a fan of the chain link attacks to be honest. They just break the flow of the combat for me and also have this weird yellowish indicator =/

Some of the lighting/PBR/global illumination together with the cloth physics/visible muscles is blowing me away and makes some frames feel CG to me. Am I out of the loop with today's standards or is this really good-looking on PS4/X1?

It is extremely good looking. I believe it is one of the best looking games on consoles right now.

No other game so far has done PBR + Real Time Global Illumination... so there is your answer :)

It will be interesting to see how big and "open" the world of FFXV is compared to, say, The Witcher 3. The Witcher 3 uses PBR but lacks real-time GI which often results in flat lighting indoor.

Did the resolution/performance improve at all? Downloading the update now.
Performance is better but don't expect stable 30 fps. Basically the frame rate still drops if there are all sorts of crazy particle effects going on due to the attacks, like the newly introduced chain links. But I am positive that the general performance is much better than the vanilla version of the demo.

Resolution is the same.

Fighting that Catoblepas gets me excited for the air combat still though.
You can practically stay in the air as long as you want as long as you build mp up by attacking things.

I was playing around with the fact that if I killed something in the air I could legit be falling for a second then warp to the next target in the air without hitting the ground and it felt a lot like

Resolution is the same.

I'd rather they prioritize the framerate(happy Tabata said so)

Witcher 3 offered 1080p/20something fps on PS4 ,but the performance isn't the best.900p/30 fps would be a much better choice for these kinds of long games.

I imagine when we get the car/chocobo and speed along these massive areas, things could even worse.

Performance first.Slight bump in resolution next.

Didn't that L Sprio guy on gamefaqs who is apparently working on the graphics say that the optimization for 1080p 30fps on the final game is already prepared, and none of that would be applied to the demo?

I think it was more the guasian blur that annoyed me more than the resolution. Things looked blurred 5 feet out from you.

Hard to describe, but anyone who played the demo should know what I mean.

Anyway, looking forward to trying out the changes.

He didn't say that specifically. He just said that some features were downgraded for the demo.

Basically, it's not optimized.

I'm still expecting zones, hidden by cutscenes and whatnot.

By the time this game releases, they might figure some streaming tech to make it open world :P

That's something they should have figured out from the start lol.

Open world is mainly defined by freedom of traversal, regardless if its all one piece of land or the streaming tech behind it.

I hope you guys don't consider witcher 3 to be not-open-world because it has some divisions.

Even Skyrim has some divisions and loading screens here and there. On the other hand,Dark Souls is all one piece of seamless land yet no one calls it open world.

Its a silly ,technical distinction.

no idea.

There is some cinematic blur/depth of field thing they added to the game.I like it though I understand if others don't.

I felt and thought that AA was applied in 2.0, although Tabata hadn't mentioned about it.
It may be just my imagination, but if the graphics really get better,it can be one of the reasons.

My response to the Updated Demo:

Dodge Rolling is a great addition, it's very limited but considering it costs no magic it's still nice to have, I haven't been able to dodge from attacks too much. I would love to see the range slightly extended or items that will allow an extended range for dodge rolling, but the way they have all the human like abilities they have been all very realistic to what a normal human can do and I appreciate the realism.

Noctis voice actor still has a too deep voice, but you can actually hear him this time. I'm a little confused because it sounds like they updates some files with his voice acting, and others are left the same. He still sounds like Bruce Wayne and it bothers the hell out of me, I really hope they just get a new voice actor because I'm sick of this deep voice it sounds like his testosterone level is through the roof.

The giant dinosaur thing is gorgeous up close, and offers a awesome combat for people who leveled up to 99. But he is a bullet sponge but a realistic bullet sponge, I love this take on reality, I'm just a little upset that he goes away for good after defeating him. :/

The Tour Quests are a great addition to the game, they clearly look like quests to be taken after you have done the Area's Main Quest. They have strong bond moments with the characters which I wish had voice acting, but doing these quests show that not only you unlock items but also you friends you left behind didn't slack around and provided items they gained during this time. (Seeing Glad and Prompto in the tent wrestling as hilarious.) And it seems one of the main points of these quests is to have to come back to the area later on in the game to unlock new monsters (like the giant dinosaur thing), new locations, new abilities, and or just nice bonding moments. This gets people to go back to old areas for the chance of unlocking new stuff, and maybe find things they missed.

Rock Teleporting is... I think it's broken, because I very rarely teleported ontop of a rock when using it. All this showed to me is that we need more things to teleport onto, and or have very little restriction and allow ourselves to freely teleport anywhere by throwing Noctis's sword onto something. The developers just need to get over the idea that people may explore other places they're not supposed to yet, this feature was be highly appreciated and useful.

Team Combos. I love them. I love everything about them. My teammates actually feel sort of useful now. And I can effective take things out much smoother without risking taking a hit that will drop my bonus exp %. It has it's limitations, but it's very nice. I do hope that there will be future combos that aren't just press [] square when the screen prompts up, like make us hit a wide variety of buttons for more complicated/powerful moves.

Abilities Cost Reduction is.. Okay. Honestly I know they have been reduced, but it really feels like that it has done nothing to the gameplay. I still spam Drain Attack because all the other moves are pretty much useless compared to Noctis's final break at max MP. I'm scared to see how Noctis will handle magic because the damage output of those abilities are awful, and if magic does a lot of damage abilities are pretty much obsolete, and if magic does hardly any damage that makes magic mostly obsolete. Not to mention it's still too easy to get hit when trying to preform these moves that all offer very little benefit in combat. There needs to be stunning, better knocked down effects, and other things added onto them like poison, sleep, death, or stone.

Overall:

Great tweaks but this update to the demo, and a nice look as for whats to come in the final game. But considering that I still have a million suggestions to make to help improve the game rather than a few or some, the game still has a long ways to go. I just hope if they do a new update they provide access to chocobo riding, or the car, let us try out the magic, and let us play as Glad, Prompto, or Ignis to critique on their characters/playstyle/balance.

Image quality is definitely improved on the PS4. Version 1.0 was such a blurry mess that I'd get a headache playing it. With Version 2.0, I no longer have that issue.
