Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain to feature microtransactions

There is a reason I only buy complete retail games.

It's to discourage this shit!
...at least it's one of the reasons.

By default, it's bad practice because it messes with the game design. Even the developer cannot claim otherwise, your whole game design is now tainted because of it. What was the original intended research speed? How can we be sure if it's not padded now?

Where have you read that the microtransactions are related to research?

The only previewer mentioning them found them with Outer Ops, not with other functions of Mother Base.

Yeah, this really is the last straw for me, Konami doesn't deserve any money from me, will play MGS V when it drops to like 25-30 secondhand.

This. I am fucking done with this crap.

Setting up deliberate timers that block game progress and put a price tag on them is like holding content for ransom. This shit should be illegal.

If I was at home right now, I'd make a nice Dungeon Keeper iOS Photoshop crossover...

Disappointed but if its only on completing things time wise I wont care, but i know weapons and character customization are probably effected too.

Konami has gone full "no fucks given" and is expecting fans to pony up their hard earned money anyway, despite pissing on the fans and the content creators that just want MGS V to be the best possible game it can be.

But noo.. why?

I don't like where this concept is headed. Seems out of place for a MGS. But, I suspect it's connected to the online portion. Hopefully, mainly, simple cosmetic microtransactions. Likely going to be where Konami wants to generate their additional profit.

Maybe you have to be connected to your clan (what ever it's called in MGO) to speed up research development for multiplayer equipment as an option to help them out even while you play single player ?

I like that idea. Would be cool, just as much as speeding up dev time by paying real money would be horrible.
Either way, it's anyone's guess what's gonna happen. I'm not getting angry because of some speculation.

Wait and see.

I hope its just a rumor or misread information and its only DLCs it meant, cause fucking hell...

And all those countless mobile threads ask the same question "Why do you dislike mobile games? Its on mobile, it doesn't affect traditional games that still exists."

Un-fucking-believable. To use to classic expression of outrage, "pre-order cancelled".

But seriously, I will not buy the game at full price if there are microtrans in it. Completely refuse.

The question is whether Kojima OK'd this or whether it was forced on him by Konami.

And to anyone who can't see how the presence of such things would affect the natural game design, there are thousands of posts on GAF and elsewhere explaining it again and again. But it comes down to the fact that if they didn't adjust the waiting times to be a nuisance, there would be no point to introducing microtrans in the first place. As such, the effort required to put in microtrans almost guarantees that the upgrade times involved in the gameplay will be tweaked to make it less enjoyable for non-paying players.

Fuck, devastating news if true. Tumbling down, tumbling down etc. And this is just one day after I played Pokemon Shuffle by Nintendo and nearly wept at the shit they've stooped to there.

Gaming... has changed...

Holy shit, I think you've nailed it. I've had a sudden epiphany here... MGSV is going to be horrible, just like Peace Walker, isn't it? I never even considered this... Ground Zeroes was so incredibly good, after all.

There really is nothing to add to this. I refuse to pay full price for any games with micro-transactions - most of the time I avoid them competely. Now if only everyone else would do the same, this scourge of gamig would be gone tomorrow.

Can't wait for the day when the our lawmakers start treating micro-transactions like gambling (=no public advertising that can be seen by minors, extremely high taxes, etc).

from an italian friend: "can someone tell the guys holding hope that it is the SPECIFIC way in which micros are listed over here and that DLC is listes always as "contenuti aggiuntivi" (additional content)"

How important is building mother base to beating and enjoying the game?
It just seems uninteresting to me, like a sort of tower defense mini game. Don't know too many exact details tho.

Greg Miller stated they had access to the entire game. Not a preview build of it

Do you not remember what happened with Unity? Reviewers with early copies of the (full) game were locked out of micro transactions. They couldn't see what they were or what they costs. Then the game releases with a day 1 patch to activate said micro transactions. You're not understanding what everyone else was saying, it doesn't matter if they had access to the 'full game', Konami could have very easily lowered the amount of time it takes to build things, then bump that time up on release with a day one patch to make these micro transactions seem more appealing.

Not saying that they have/did, but it is possible. The fact that previewers didn't complain about the length of time it took to build bases in the game means nothing, as that could easily be changed between now and release with a simple patch.

Wow. This is pretty much the limit for me. I may still pick up the game on day one, but I'm sure going to hate myself for doing it. Not that I want to damage the work of Kojima and his team, but it appears that KONAMI is pulling a fast one on all of us. I really, really don't want to have them thinking that I support this, ugh. Maybe I'll be able to pick up a second-hand copy or something.

As a huge MGS fan since I was five, this is agonizing.

So much outrage in this thread and usual hyperbole with people getting done with the series over speculation about the feature we don't know implementation of.
I don't advocate the microtransactions, I'm against them as mush as the next guy, but there was similar about outrage about them in Dead Space 3, for example, but it ended up having no consequence on playthrough.

We all know what's gonna happen with all the people in this thread who is "outraged" and "canceled their preorders" come September 1st

Well even if this is true, I hope people don't blame Kojima for it.
Its probably the new CEOs fault or whoever the guys is, who started trying to get rid of KojiPro.
Everything started with that

Almost all modern AAA open world games feature some form of micro transactions (GTA V, AC Unity, Watchdogs, Batman etch) in the form of game progression or paid DLCs.

As long as they are not essential for progressing in the game I have no problem with micro transactions but probably lots of people use them (spend money on them) as a progression mechanism (or buying a costume/weapon for their character for example).

That’s why companies are implementing them and to bass just konami for the use of micro transactions in MGS V when (almost) everyone in the industry is doing it has no point.

They probably won't reveal how important, or how much of a grind it will be til after release.

God damn it. So not only are the main missions ranked, but now this? Gotta say, my hype is diminishing.
Still gonna play it though

Let us all be honest here, we all would do the same thing in if we were in their position. These micro transactions are there for people who are willing to put the money out for shortcuts. It is for those who work, have families, and well let us be clear here, have actual lives.

These used to be called "cheat codes".

This is sad news. Hopefully the microtransactions are are not noticable and can be ignored (alot like the battlepacks in BF4) but if its to speed up game grind then Im not touching this game out of principle.

Its a horrible money grabbing tactic if true.

And Im a massive fan of the series. Im gonna wait to see how this pans out after launch.

Konami has single-handedly made MGS V a guaranteed day one purchase go to an await-and- see-what-happens situation . I'm suspicious of shady entities in general, and Konami is one shady company.

I'll get it somehow though, for sure.
