Getting into Halo

If you are really looking to jump into Halo cold in 2015 - you would be a fool not to get the MCC. Theres no going back to the og versions after playing them at 60 fps.

That's what divides the casual from the core. The disparity in opinion is much less varied amongst core fans.

No, they're really not.
:)

Guess not.

This is a joke post right? I mean I always heard how Halo has an awful fan base but I've never seen it in person.

Anyways I'm not a "core" fan seeing as I only played MCC and Halo 3 years ago, but I loved all 4 campaigns in their own way. I haven't played Reach, so I can't comment on that. I did start ODST recently and I like it a lot!

The multiplayer takes some getting used to if you're new to the series like I am, but it's a lot of fun. From what I've played, it works now, even when I was partied with 2 other people. I highly recommend playing with friends though because you actually need to have good teamwork.

I will say that I enjoyed the Halo 5 beta the most though. In fact, it was the most fun I've had in a mp shooter since the old school pc days.

So I definitely recommend MCC and all its campaigns (yes, even 4).

MCC and a One is all you need. It's all I have since I mostly play PC and I havn't regretted my purchase. Really hope they port Reach over to it next. ODST gives me hope they will.

If you have any intentions of entering the MP competitive scene then get MCC now (for Halo 2 and 3) and Halo 5 when it releases. MCC also allows you to play all of the campaigns at their best (except for minor issues here and there).

I don't get the love for Reach. It bored me.

Just the opposite. The newer games are tailored especially for narrow minds.

An objective mindset would be a good start. Once established, go through the Halo Canon in order of release. It's really that simple.
It's not that I don't respect your opinion it's just that you made it very clear anybody who likes Reach and 4 are not core fans. We may have a problem, though. You see I've beaten each game from the first and in order. Not only that I have every game on each platform available. I even have MCC unopened since I don't have an Xbone yet. I even enjoy the stories and the lore, too. Well this is awkward. Quite the predicament I'm in.

Might as well just sell it all and get invested in Killzone at this point, man.

I'm tired of this general consensus: core > casual
Really tired.

Pretty sure that's not the general consensus. There's always a few of those guys in the community who think like that though.

Or consider anyone who like certain entries in the series to be lesser fans. Just ignore them, makes discussing far less of a drag. The ignore list is always welcoming for new people.

But now I'm scared. I have all of those, too. But am I liking the right ones? Am I core fan? I wasn't a huge fan of Shadow Fall but I beat it anyway. I loved the rest and own them all. 2 is my favorite.

I was going to get an Xbone around the time Halo 5 came out, too. All my dreams are ruined.

With time the pain will fade, and maybe one day when you decide to rise up from the casual peasanthood where you currently reside and decide to git gud, you can join the ranks of the worthy.

I only play Halo for the campaign and really think you should buy MCC, as it's well worth the money for the SP alone. Halo 3 is the standout for me, but Halo 4 isn't far behind, as it really feels great to play, despite the more linear levels.

Buy MCC. You can make your way through all of the campaigns other than Reach and be ready to go for 5.

I will say though some of the "elitism" coming from "true Halo" fans in this thread is sickening seriously. I have been playing Halo since the day it released and guess what? I loved Reach and 4's campaign's. In fact I've liked pretty much every Halo campaign even if I have some nit picking with a few of them. I don't like every Halo games multiplayer just like most people, but I still consider them amazing Halo games.

What 343 are doing > Bungie by a mile in my opinion.

You mainly play the single player, yeah? Because that is almost absolutely correct. I think ODST was the best campaign, but H4 was good.

In terms of multiplayer, not even close. It's not even an opinion. Compare the Halo competitive scene from any other Halo game, Reach included just Barely, to Halo 4 and that's proof enough. I loved Reach, but I can understand that it wasn't all that appealing to some people. H2 and 3 had there competitive heyday. Hopefully Halo 5 brings that back. I miss seeing teams like Final Boss rise up and stomp the... Well. There wasn't much competition.

So I see folks here and there saying this, and I guess I don't really get it, what do you see in ODST's campaign? I'm not planning on jumping down your throat when you answer, I'm genuinely curious.

Fantastic atmosphere, nice change of pace, levels act almost as a "best of" series from the first 3 games. Also it has possibly the best soundtrack in the series.

It was a break from the all important battles of the chief. You got to see a minor battle with little impact and the soldiers involved. The city was a prime example of good atmosphere and the characters were charming where they lacked a lot of depth. Combat was fun and the city led to some interesting firefights with Jackals sniping from buildings and Brutes moving in to surround you. If I hadn't played the main line Halo games I might not have enjoyed it so much, but as it was I found the juxtaposition to be a good side story.

Just woke up, so I might not be overly coherent.

Don't stress it, you and jem actually gave me some things to watch out for when I run through the game again later one today, see if I can't appreciate it in a new light.

I was speaking more of 343 > what Bungie is doing now

Preach. I was admiring 60fps in my last session, really was a joy to play. H3 multi.

Some unpopular opinions:

- MCC is not at the same state at the release, it is now at a normal rate of "issues"
- Halo 4 has the best halo campaign but the MP is not the best (although it is better than most of the Shooters)
- Halo 5 MP looks really impressive and addictive
- 343i did an amazing job with the graphics. Halo 4 if definitely in the top five of last gen.

All of that except for Halo 4 having the best campaign seems pretty widely agreed upon.

I think it's fair to say widely agreed with, by loudly disagreed with, audience depending. The Halo 4 campaign being one of the best would probably have the most back-and-forth among those points. I think the story was among the best handled.

Having around 30 thousand daily players after 2 years, seems pretty good actually...

It's absolutely god awful compared to Halo 3 having around 200,000 player peaks up until Reach came out.

Even with how bad Reach was, it was still pulling near 100k until Halol 4...

I almost hope Halo 5 is bad so I don't have to buy an Xbox One when I already have a PS4.

Only kidding. Halo is a great series that I'd hate to see go down the toilet.

Actually the Halo 4 playlist is what I play the most now in MCC, solid hit detection, if you get into objective playlists or Legendary settings (no AA no perks no radar) it is really fun, even the Infinity setting isn't that bad despite having some imbalanced AAs but you get to play with Thruster before Halo 5 so I won't complain.

Campaign wise I wouldn't say Halo 4 is the best but it is definitely up there with the best now that in MCC it looks gorgeous and controls like a dream, the biggest issue is still how it lays out its story but that can be simply mitigated by watching the terminals first.

On the contrary, I hope it's really good so I could buy XBO now instead of waiting till Quantum Break.

There's really no use in creating this thread other than providing a ground for pissing contests between fanboys.

Just buy Halo: MCC. Enjoy!
