Steam Summer Sale 2015 thread of refunding everything you buy (June 11-21)

Westerado is fantastic, but that price is steep. I'm a massive Western fan and I only got about 7 hours out of it, as although it's kinda randomly generated, once you've played through it, it's not really that interesting to keep going through, as there aren't enough quests to keep things fresh.

Very clever idea though. Oh and I think the flash game is still available, so you can play a more basic version of it for nothing. Soundtrack kicks ass though.

Looking at DCS: Flaming Cliffs 3. Anyone have any experience with this? I have a HOTAS so I'm not too worried about it being a sim but according to Enhanced Steam it uses 3rd-party DRM: StarForce ProActive with a 10 machine activation limit. Uh, Starforce is still a thing? Any idea how badly that going to fuck with my system?

Is there some sort of probationary period when refunding a game? I bought a few games, refunded one and tried to refund another from the same purchase but I couldn't find the option. The first game didn't disappear from my library yet and the refunding is pending, will I be able to refund another game after the first fully goes through?

I have it installed and my PC has no problems with Starforce. DCS World should be getting upgraded to the new engine that they have in development which is an added bonus of purchasing the dlc.

What's your opinion of ys: ark?

Ys 6 is the first game to use the engine that Oath and Origin use.
Ys 6 isn't that bad, but once you beat it you will find various elements that are frustrating or wonky.
It's still a fun romp though.

Generally you want to play Ys games on Normal difficulty, but for 1st timers on Ys 6, I recommend playing on Easy =X

This might only be useful to UK GAF members, but Ebay/Paypal are doing a 20% off code (CTWENTY) today, so if you buy a Steam Wallet code off there, you can save a few quid. Every penny counts!

Only games I'm thinking of buying today are Far Cry 3 and Alien: Isolation.

Not sure I want to buy FC4 right now until I see what FC3 is like. Also not really interested in the FC3 DLC (Blood Dragon or something?). However, should I buy the Alien: Isolation season pass?

just a heads up for those that bought The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. The game is being ported over to Unreal Engine 4 and it will be a free update.

Looking at the prices for these GOTY editions of games, I'm not sure how much longer I can justify buying games at launch. I want to buy the dlc for Borderlands 2 and Dishonored but it's cheaper to buy the GOTY version. But I already bought the game, so I don't really want to buy it again. Why can't the dlc receive a discount similar to that of the GOTY edition?

So basically:

Buy at launch = Pay more for some of the game

Buy a year later = Pay significantly less for more of the game

I know this is common knowledge these days but I guess I was just venting.

Whoa any details on this? Huge difference in visuals? Release date?

Current owners of the game will get an UE4 version for free so it should make no difference. Also, the problem cannot be really fixed in UE3 because this engine was never designed with open worlds in mind, and a slight stutter when you pass through the mini loading screen areas is the cost.

Regarding your questions, it is difficult to answer them all at the moment. We will probably go for DirectX 12 and we have not decided on Mantle API yet.

Is Alice Madness Return fun? I am curious about this game.

Killer is Dead is already in the cart.

Alice Madness Returns is good but is sadly too long for its own good.
Make sure to use the 60 FPS Fix for Killer is Dead (Check Steam Guides) and experience dat Suda 51 greatness.

Which YS should I grab? I loved Ark of Naphistim back on PS2. What do you guys recommend?

Ys 6 on PC is a better ver. of the game so get that if you want.
Alt. get all of them, but if you can only get 1 Ys game, Get Oath in Felghana (Ys 3).
All Ys games can be enjoyed without worrying about the story.

The whole The Dark Eye Universe Bundle seems great to me.
I want to buy Memoria but I think I'll end up buying this bundle.Any opinions on this bundle?

I'd say so, go grab one of the Greatest Games of All Time and you'll have another GOAT waiting for your enjoyment still ;3

I'd love to grab both but money is an issue for me here. If I buy Ys Oath I'll have 6,22€ left and the lowest Resi 4 was discounted is 7,99€. What's the chance of it coming in the price range that's still in my budget?

Don't forget that 90% of the time the later version of the game is also patched and vastly improved compared to the launch version.

Literally the only reasons to buy day 1 are 1) to be part of the launch event and 2) (for graphics intensive games) the earlier you experience the graphics, the bigger their impact.

Does anyone think Bulletstorm will drop any lower than £7.49 (50%) on Steam? Origin have it for £4.49.

It's a distinct possibility, but at the end of the day, nobody can say for sure.

I assume GFWL is still in too...

Yes. The game was actually pulled from sale until Microsoft extended GFWL's sunset date.

Not sure how Steam works in this specific regard, but don't you get an extra copy of the base game that you can gift? At least that sounds like it would make sense.

Anyway, I suppose that's unfortunately just the way it is, has been and will be. I'd say only buy games at launch if you're very excited about it and can't wait (and thus having no issue with relatively speaking spending more on it in the long run), while buying everything else when you feel the price is right.

This is a self fixing problem as you fill out your library. Give it another year or two and you can reminisce the sales years of yore like the rest of us.

I wouldn't say that with such certainty. I sit at 2405 games and I have spent 137$ on this sale already, with some more to buy yet. A filled up library doesn't reduce the amount of games coming out each day and the amount of games we want to obtain (to never play).
