Fallout 4 - Multiple E3 Gameplay Demos, Releasing November 10th, 2015

Oh come on, man.

I do agree that NV is the superior experience of the ones you listed, but they are so much alike in every aspect, especially NV and FO3 that this comes across as completely illogical to me.

Did the better story, quests and dialogue do so much for you in FNV then? It's kind of hard to believe.

The story, quests and dialogue are the only reason I played through FNV.

What you are asking for is a gay or lesbian character. "LGBT character" means nothing. LGBT is a group of people, not one individual.

Besides, who says he is not bisexual. Just because he is married doesn't mean he is straight.

Doesn't "LGBT character" really just mean a character who belongs to the LGBT community? As a member of the community I think LGBT is a perfectly acceptable adjective.

blown away. just got around to finally seeing the videos.

I can't believe anyone is disappointed, it looks so, so fucking good. there's just.. so much of it.

thought the new voice/dialog stuff would throw me off but I love that too. I love it all.

People need to get over what they think these games should be at this point.

It's Todd Howard's game. You either like what he builds or you don't, but he ain't making a linear story focused RPG. And by the way, every game he's made has been more successful then the one before it, so he doesn't need to change his focus.

Thank goodness. Because I don't want a linear story focused RPG. I want a crazy ass Todd Howard sandbox, and I'm getting what I want.

Looks absolutely brilliant, although the dialogue system was really disappointing. Using the face buttons of a controller just means there'll never be more than 4 choices. Aside from that it looks great.

The story in bethesdas games are as linear as it gets but no one is saying they want a linear game.

That's kind of important in a game like this. I didn't enjoy FO3 but loved NV, which is why it's hard for me to get excited about this. I'm really hoping for the best though.

More or less happy with everything I've seen so far. The only thing that concerns me is the possibility of bethesda.net and its impact on the modding community if it in fact has anything to do with mod loading.

Some people do not like bethesda games and crave a more polished focused experience. Nothing wrong with that but always confusing how the same complaints pop up for every game they release. Not withstanding the justifiable ones like terrible PC UI or the bug riddled games they often release.

The story, quests and dialogue are the only reason I played through FNV.

Does make sense then!

I don't know about you, but those three are the qualities I judge my RPGs on.

Those are indeed 3 very important qualities for an RPG, but not the only ones I judge any game on (and yes, those are more important in RPG's) Fallout is so much more to me.

I find those 3 pillars in FNV to be better than FO3 as well, but not to the same level as a lot of you guys here. I did quite enjoy FO3's dialogue, quests and story.

The hyperbole.

This looks very fun. Looking forward to this game.

Not even a little. The gameplay itself looks basically indistinguishable from Fallout 3, where it was terrible and repetitive already. There's a reliance on the iconography of Fallout (Super Mutants again, Brotherhood of Steel again) with no thought for how that applies in the world. Role-playing has been completely stripped out in favour of a generico-protagonist. From what we've seen of the story, it looks like maudlin crap, calculated to hit at the lowest common denominator of emotional resonance. Which is a bit heartbreaking given that New Vegas was one of the most complicated and thoughful pieces of worldbuilding ever created.

It's a game that's clearly trying to be a wacky post-apocalyptic themepark simulator with a story that assumes the player is an idiot and treats them as such. It's fine if you think the game looks fun, but nothing about the game looks fresh, smart or interesting. I am really curious what value anyone sees in these trailers that hasn't been done exactly like this by Bethesda on multiple prior games.

I always feel like a strange outlier in which I enjoyed FO3 more than NV. I couldn't even finish New Vegas. I was just "gripped" more by FO3 and that wasn't evident during my time in NV.

Maybe it's a Bethesda thing? Maybe a product of it's time?

Serious post? It's an RPG. Of course those things matter a lot, in fact, they're the most important aspects for many people when it comes to RPGs

Seriously, barring any massive surprises in the next 24 hours, how anybody couldn't think that this is the most interesting game of this year is completely beyond me.

It looks like it will be absolutely spectacular and is among the few games that could actually justify a $60 price tag.

You say it yourself, E3 just began : why jumping to conclusion (Fallout 4 is the most interesting game of the year!) and not wait to see more games ? :P

A lot of people in this thread is forgetting what is an RPG and that Fallout serie root (1 & 2) was heavely Role play like Witcher 3 is.

Nothing wrong with it. I enjoyed Fallout 3 over New Vegas too.

Absolutely brilliant demo, loved everything I saw.

Beautiful.

Thats the problem. Peoples thoughts are instantly thrown up onto the internet. Nobody processes anything anymore.

Just watch the giant bomb guys talking over the Bethesda conference. Negativity, snide mocking jokes, more negativity then once its over they're like.... well that was cool.

It comes with the 'marketing' game.
Bethesda's job to sell it is to make the game as good as possible, overselling some things and conveniently ignoring others.

Once your familiar with that and the pedigree of the people making the presentation some things instantly become harder to swallow, even if you enjoy what they are showing.

I mean, without even being too sarcastic or anything, their 'no sliders' thing for the character creation is bullshit, they just don't show on screen and you can modify the values using another method, but the values are there and sliders will pop-out as fast as mods will.

So is the 'command system' for the dog, it's nothing new, Skyrim's Followers used it already, it seems to work the same way in FO4 and overall it was shitty and impractical to use.
But y'know the dog brings the item back, .... it's cuuuuuute ......

This proper Fallout 4 feature etc. reveal reminded my why I should upgrade my PC in 2015 and not hold off.

Not sure I will personally get into whole base building too much, but all that weapon and power armor crafting/customization just hit right buttons with me. Graphically it's not anything mind blowing, but still looked very nice and hopefully animations get tad better.

#hype

Pretty excited, because I really loved FO3. I think I may be one of the only people who liked FO3 more than NV, but for some reason I did.

I do think graphically it's not really anything special at all, but that doesn't really bother me.

I'll pick this up for PC, no doubt. Unless people think the consoles will run at 60FPS? Has a bethesda game on consoles ever ran at 60fps though?

I'm a convinced supporter of equality but this just doesn't add up. I provided an explanation, others stated similar points and a dude said that his voice sounds like that caricature of a white guy even though he isn't white, so why are you ignoring all of this? Those "black", " Asian", etc voices are a social construct to generalise how certain minorities "speak" and to mock them. White people established them through movies, books, etc. but there are no real differences in your voice linked to your skin colour, it's just false. As I said in my previous post: you would find differences among different African countries even though the population is black.
What you do is pretending that there is a certain kind of voice among different minorities and ignore the variety of them.
Well said. Anyone who thinks otherwise is either racist or tricked by racist Hollywood.

Okay, I can put the crafting behind me but let's talk about the dialogue wheel.

Kinda crazy how they have not 1 but 4 low INT answers for you to pick. I wonder how many there are for high INT characters, possibly more than you have buttons on the controller!

No wait, it's the same exact problem that this implementation always has: you pick a word and then your character says or might not say something in lines of the word or two you chose. I am playing Witcher 3 right now and it's bothering me to no end: sometimes what the character says is even exactly as long as the description text but just said differently. Wow much dynamic interaction. At least in Life Is Strange you can rewind back when the option doesn't do anything you expected it to do, unlike in Telltale games.

Good to hear you know the story of the game, and how well it plays out. When did you play it?

The game looks way better than I expected in the gameplay videos, love the artstyle and the colors are vibrant and nice to look at. No more green puke filters! But the animations killed me lol, they are so awful when they talk. But oh well, I do like how the game looks so that's something. Cute dog too

You've seen nine minutes of the game and a trailer.
This is a particularly bad post in a thread full of bad, kneejerk, poorly considered posts.

Just watched the Bethesda conference trailer, not a fan of Fallout 3 but this looks good. The intro had me interested, crafting/making your own home sounds sweet and the graphics look quite nice even if they aren't the best on a technical level (PBR, volumetric lights and the beautiful palette help a lot though). If i like New Vegas maybe i'll buy it, limited with the pipboy because that thing is super hype lol.

PS: is it just me or Todd Howard trolled Nintendo with that "second screens are fucking stupid gimmicks"? rotfl

Yeah, it's just.. Goddamn it. I'm not sure if it's obvious to native speakers, but I have no idea what kind of reaction something like "you're a mutt" could be, for example. Is it pitying the dog? Angry at the dog? What the fuck

Like I said, I expect I'm gonna have to quick save before every conversation. Not because of the idiotic percentage-based speech checks this time around, but because of ambiguous bullshit like this.

Of course it's serious.

See my response a couple of posts above.

I'm surprised why it's so hard for you to see how the writing could make or break a game for others, then

Not even a little. The gameplay itself looks basically indistinguishable from Fallout 3, where it was terrible and repetitive already.
Sure, I remember being able to give commands to my companions in Fallout 3.
I also remember VATS slowing down the action instead of completely pausing it.
I also remember Jetpacks (addition of vertical traversal), flying vehicles (hell, all types of vehicles in Fallout 3!), crafting, etc.
Should I go on?
There's a reliance on the iconography of Fallout (Super Mutants again, Brotherhood of Steel again) with no thought for how that applies in the world.
This is a Fallout game, those things will be there for a reason. Do you have access to a story trailer or something where it was explained that Deathclaws, Super Mutants and BoS are there just because? The canon ending for Fallout 1 states that the remaining army of Super Mutants fled to the East. There, that's your reason for them existing. Did you also call Fallout 2 dogshit because it had Super Mutants?
Role-playing has been completely stripped out in favour of a generico-protagonist.
What does this even mean? In the original Fallout you could choose from three different pre-defined characters or create one from scratch. Isn't that kind of the same here? You can choose to play as whatever family background is available from either a male or female protagonist, or you can play the character however you like. Did you miss the SPECIAL interface?
From what we've seen of the story, it looks like maudlin crap, calculated to hit at the lowest common denominator of emotional resonance. Which is a bit heartbreaking given that New Vegas was one of the most complicated and thoughful pieces of worldbuilding ever created.
I can't believe you're jumping to conclusions. We know nothing about the story. We know *a bit* about the characters and setting, but nothing as to why things are happening, motivations, goals, etc.
It's a game that's clearly trying to be a wacky post-apocalyptic themepark simulator with a story that assumes the player is an idiot and treats them as such.
How? Please explain HOW it is doing that.
It's fine if you think the game looks fun,
I do, thanks for giving me permission to think.
but nothing about the game looks fresh, smart or interesting.
I never said any of those things.
I am really curious what value anyone sees in these trailers that hasn't been done exactly like this by Bethesda on multiple prior games.
Google Fallout 3 reveal trailer and come back and tell me it looks "exactly like this".

Also, for the record: the only reason your original comment caught my eye was because you called the game "dogshit". Had you been as articulate as you were with the post I am now replying to, I would have read it and dismissed it as wrong, but at least respected that you were able to string a few coherent sentences into a misguided yet thoughtful post.

I didn't like Fallout 3 that much and got bored of it. I wonder if I would like Fallout 4. I just watched a recap of their conference and so much of it is quite amazing.

I loved the look of pretty much everything except the dialogue wheel. I really don't like that dialogue system.

The number of times I've selected an option expecting my character to say one thing, only for them to say almost the exact opposite is far too many. It's an infuriating system.

Completely blown away. They could have just stuck to what made Fallout 3 great and I woulda been fine. But the customization, dwelling and crafting options are outta bounds. This will be all I play until Uncharted 4 hits. Hell, Battlefront will take a seat to this. Incredible.
