Some quick thoughts.

The only Sony exclusive that still winds my crank is No Man's Sky. No release date? Damn it.

Last Guardian looks ancient and older than most of the 360 games people will be playing on their newly back compat Xbox Ones this year. It looked like a technical mess. Very nice animation, but the window for that game to sell in any quantity expired 8 years ago.

Shenmue 1 was one of the worst games I bought on my Dreamcast. Never understood the appeal of those games, except as a museum piece that foreshadowed the many times more brilliant GTA 3. Glad fans might be getting some closure, but I will forever remain mystified as to that series' appeal.

Any Witness mentions? Did I blank out on a mention? Getting sick of waiting for that one too.

FF7 remake. Does this mean the mainline FF games are even further away? And is the mass market still even interested in that series; it's been years since the last mainline entry. A remake of a 15+ year old game drawing this level of interest just shows how dead the traditional JRPG market really is.

Was not enthralled with Sony this year. Fallout 4 and Battlefront 3 are my only sure fire buys this holiday.

Now that GAF is functioning again, my thoughts on a Sony conference with huge ups and downs:

"That's an applause line”? "Games are the cultural zeitgeist”? "Full stop”? I have to admit, I thought I was in for a complete groaner from start to finish.

Then finally, The Last Guardian, with a release year, followed by Shuhei Yoshida saying "Fumito Ueda is great, don't believe what you hear about how we drove him to quit. Please don't leave us, Ueda! PLEASE?!” It just felt desperate giving him kudos now after everything that’s happened.

Then on to Horizon. It looks good, but it also looks like the vertical slice du jour of Sony’s conference. I will wait that one out.

Then Hitman with no gameplay, gab gab gab, digital release, blah blah blah, exclusive beta/DLC.

Street Fighter V comes on very VERY briefly and, oh BTW, another exclusive public beta. Public betas appear to be the new exclusive DLC at Sony’s conference.

No Man's Sky had a slog of a boring demo, bragging bullshit that will never materialize (All these stars are solar systems, for serious guys!). I started reading my book at that point.

Media Molecule comes on and starts philosophizing garbage, then shows us what appears to be user created “experiences”. Basically, not a game, but Mario Paint for the artsy poseur in the gaming crowd.

Destiny expansion... yawn. Another Ass Creed… yawn. Final Fantasy Chibi game because… yeah sure why not?

And then… Final Fantasy 7 remake. I’m of 3 different minds about this.
First, I am glad it exists just so people can shut the fuck up about it for the next 5 years before they start asking for it to be remade yet again.
Second, I’m glad that the remake will expose the younger generations to just how truly forgettable this game is without that wide-eyed nostalgia.
And third, I can’t believe they would announce something that cannibalizes FFXV. But then again, I don’t recall them giving a release date, which should worry people, since Square Enix isn’t great on their track record with games. If we don’t get firm release dates for KH3 and FFXV tomorrow, we should be concerned.

And then they followed it up with Shenmue III…. Kickstarter. It was just such a terrible contradiction. “We’re so excited to announce this game, but not excited enough to fucking fund it. Do it yourselves, gamers, we can’t be assed.” It’s just a terrible message when you actually break it down. It was literally just to take credit for something they aren’t even truly involved in, which is just stupid.
But at the end of it, at least we now have the "etherware trifecta" out of the way so people can stop fucking droning on about them. But being excited for a Kickstarter is like freaking out N64 Kid style before you’ve unwrapped your Christmas present.

And it looks like exclusive DLC is still a thing, thanks to Batman Arkham Knight. I started reading my book again.

And then Morpheus happened, right? Blink and you missed it, seriously. I’m guessing they didn’t want to sour their presser with bad news that it’s still not affordable to own. Save that for next year, I guess.

Blah blah Spotify blah blah PS Vue blah blah blah.

And now I guess it’s Sony’s turn to give CoD fans their annual handjob with Black Ops 3! I was able to still read my book, go have a whole cigarette and make a cocktail on the rocks from the kitchen and it still wasn't done when I got back. More DLC exclusive and exclusive beta nonsense to top off that shit sundae.

Then the video wrap-up. "OH YEAH, we need to show off Vita! Give it 10 seconds!!” Sony couldn’t make it clearer that their handheld aspirations are permanently dead.

A lot of time given to Disney Infinity and Star Wars. I still haven’t put my book down.

And lastly, a delayed boot up of Uncharted 4: Nathan Drake Standing Still. I really felt bad for whoever fucked that up so badly.

So aside from the etherware trifecta, there was nothing really amazing to report, and some of that is shit Sony can’t even take credit for but are going to try to anyways, which rubs me the absolute wrong way, and the rest of the conference was just a bore otherwise.

But still, those 3 games alone do put them above Microsoft this year.

Only 2 more of these conferences to go, let's see what other big guns are left to fire. But Sony is clearly leading the mindshare pack so far on the good graces of others.

Spot on. No date for FF7R seriously worries me.

Yep. I jumped out of my chair, touchdown danced and Predator "Dylan! you son of a bitch." super-dapped my cousin when Fallout 4 was confirmed for November, than had similar reactions for Last Guardian, FF7 and Shenmue 3. It was all OMFG WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!

Holy crap, this guy was weeping after the announcement.

And yes, best E3 I have ever seen. No contest.

And yes, I had the same reaction the whole conference.

This is what it's all about. Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Love these guys.

It's 06:40am here. The first half hour was legendary and I am glad I lived it with GAF. No words to describe. It's really sad some people could not get the shivers down their spines, due to another gaming history, age or whatever reason. This is some old school feelings guys, you don't live that often anymore.

For me:
Bethesda: A-
Microsoft: B-
EA: C
Ubisoft: B+
Sony: A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Not even fair to compare Sony to the other conferences lol. It was in a league of its own. Trounced even their 2009. God damn.

See, I'm into the whole...conference grading...thing. A lot of people get hung up on "pacing" or "OMG" moments, but the reality is...the games and when they come out on the only thing that truly matters. The best part of E3 aren't the conference, they're the showfloor demos, the interviews with the developers, getting a better understanding of the game and what they're selling you.

MS didn't have the OMG shock value moments, but if we're talking Fall 2015 libraries? Consoles I want to own right now, vs consoles you'll buy when Shenmue 3/TLG comes out in 2017 or when FF7 releases in 2020 or whenever? Personally it doesn't make me want to run out and buy your console like Halo 5 does for me and the Xbone, or even the return of Gears 1 with dedicated servers/60fps/updated mechanics and maps. Once you get past the hype a week from now, that's a concrete value I'll take over a frankly dull outdating lookin TLG demo, a vague promise of a remake, a vague promise of a game(whatever the hell No Man's Sky is and whenever that comes out on PC) and a Kickstarter campaign.

But that's just me. You're right, it got the internet talking, and they're gonna have plenty of CoD/AC/Star Wars Battlefront bundles to sell to people this holiday when people are making "Where are the PS4 games!?" threads later this year.
Why are you only focusing on that I wonder.....Why has MS had nothing so far this year? Fall will e dominated by third parties. When someone buys a console now they get to choose from the entire library they don't but what is just released at that time.

Incredible conference. Easily the best in years. My only disappointing were no GT7 (you'd think it would have been a given) and the Disney Infinity 3.0 stuff was a little too long. Other than that it was incredible, and you can count me in as one of many who will be dining on some tasty crow.

lol, this ended up being perfect.

I can't believe we finally saw TLG, it's like Duke Nukem all over again! 😍

And a trailer for a remake of a game that came out 20 years ago? AND a Kickstarter?! GoaT!

In my case I like Sony's exclusives better this year. But then I guess me never being a Halo or Gears fan is the reason why.

Early this year was amazing with the likes of Bloodborne. It's already been great, but I am talking about exclusives for the holidays. I just don't see anything that will top Halo 5, Forza 6 and Rise of the Tomb Raider (exclusive this year).

Features-wise, I have to give it to Microsoft as well with the likes of backwards compatibility and the new dashboard. They win on holiday 2015 announcements, but Sony wins huge on game announcements for the long run. Massively so.

I agree with the YouTube panel on the Sony conference.

It gets a A+ for hype, that is for sure. But once the dust settles, the big highlights for me were:

A kickstarter

FFVII remake (not console exclusive, like the port was) and a CG trailer with No release date

No Mans Sky no release date

The Last Guardian looking EXACTLY like it did 6 years ago

Sony have pulled a blinder on the hype side of things. But what strong titles do they have coming for this holiday that need a PS4?
Well you could get an X1 for this year, and come back to PS4 when you're ready.

The dust has settled for me, and I don't play 9-10 AAA games a year. That's like over $500 if you buy each one at launch. I buy PSN titles, older games, and stick with fighters like SF/MK for years and years. So yeah, I'm looking at it from a practical perspective, what I'm playing on PS4 this year, next year, what's on other consoles, and it was hands down an AMAZING conference.

Pshhh..all this exclusive talk is nonsense anyway, Battlefront, COD, and even Destiny all LOOKED INCREDIBLY FUN.

That conference was amazing. Loved The Last Guardian, FF7remake, Horizon, and Shenmue 3 reveals. Also, loved Uncharted 4 and it was funny they messed up again.

Who set up the poll? Insider information?

I looked at it and was like, TLG, FF VII remake AND Shenmue 3 all in one conference? Yeah, dream on. (Though I selected "All of the above).

And then Sony came out and announced all three. I am still stunned.

They probably sold a million consoles with this presentation, even though those games are 1-3years away (and Sony didn't announce anything for this holiday, well CoD maps are no Playstation first...).

Spot on. No date for FF7R seriously worries me.

I mean, people know it's going to be far off. It's the fact that:

I. It's being announced that it's finally happening (Sony scored by having this at their conference).

II. That they would have it on their console first.

This could be years off. I don't see it a big deal if that is the case. It was still a great moment for the conference. And it's not like it was being touted as something they would have this year to fill the gap, or next year.

Man this thread needs more GIFs.

I thought about making one using the scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark where they open the Ark, but I have no skills!! Someone do it!

Sony had the hype and brought it in full force. But the more I think about it...almost nothing even had release dates, one of their announcements was for a kickstarter, I can't remember a singe exclusive coming out this year, nobody even knows that that MM game is

Theres more on both sides but it seems sonys high points were higher were as Microsoft had more overall good points.

seems like they were missing a lot of games that were suppose to show this year in their conference and i really hope shenmue gets the 2 million on its first day instead of at the last minute.

This is how I feel. As well.

Besides uncharted (naughty dog never really disappoints), which had to reboot the demo? I was only impressed/surprised with Horizon. Curious to see what that materializes into.. Kind of felt like reverse Crysis to me (which may or not be a bad thing).

Lastly black ops 3 looked hilariously boring and old. They took advanced warfare, supped it up with titanfall mechanics and threw/added in some "magic palm" elements that stunned/killed enemies and that was it.

Guys I just can't take it. Street Fighter V, Horizon, Uncharted 4, The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy VII remake, Shenmue 3... I like that woman being cleansed by the pastor on that gif... Mother of God

If anything this seemed like Sony cashing in on the pedigree of their developers rather than waiting for compelling products to be ready. Loved LBP? Here's Media Molecule with some weird art thing. We won't show any discernible gameplay but trust us, MM is great. Team Ico made some kickass games back in the day, here's a game that's been stuck in development hell for 7 years and doesn't appear to have progressed at all. Don't worry about it, SotC was baller. Shenmue was a fan-favorite series, lots of nostalgia, here's a fucking Kickstarter for a new one since we can't be arsed to fund it ourselves. Only TRUE Shenmue fans will fund this game for us!!

Weak conference to me.

Objectively speaking, the best conference ever and will be for a long time. The conference was literally a fanboys dream made reality.

The theater experience was fun. We applauded after they fixed the UC4 demo. Shenmue was legit shock.

A full press conference with a crowd and all its imperfections will always be superior to Nintendo's way of presenting through an E3 Direct. IMO of course
