What do you want from Sony's E3?

Sony's epic E3 conference will go down in the history books. My only gripe was the absence of Persona 5. Considering its only on PS3/PS4, Sony should have at least shown it in their game montage! I'm thinking they are saving P5 (and GT7, Level-5's game, etc.) for Gamescom/TGS.

Honestly, the only way Sony could have topped their own conference and made the internet explode... a collaboration with Konami to revive P.T.
(or at least let us download it again!).

Ah okay. I guess we'll have to wait and see. I just keep seeing people being critical of the game, because how can it be good on that budget etc. But this makes much more sense. Thanks for clarifying guys.

Is any of this really a bad thing? I mean, was this bad for Sony? Seemed like a big win for them.

EDIT: I see, you think they should have went for all Publishers and had them bid on it. I see.

Yup your edit nails it. Yu didn't need to launch his KS at E3. He could have done it at any point and the reaction would have been the same. One thing you never do is go exclusive when you have a hot property without shopping around. He may have already done that and ended up here, but we will never know.

In either case, I'm not sure how much the backend financing will be. This is launching on PS4 and PC, eventually, so who is the publisher?

From what I understand, they hit the $2 mil goal, Sony funds the rest. At least that's what other people are saying. Considering the first game is still one of the most expensive games of all time, he's not competing the trilogy on $2mil. Someone does need to do a HD collection though...

the ''sony will fund the rest'' is tales from the ass, there has been no indication of this, just fan dreams.Sony wouldn't bother funding the PC version would they.

I think he wants the team small and self funded so yu suzuki can retain control.

Its Yu suzuki's way or the high way
basically.

I can see this kickstarter ending at $5 million, enough to make a pretty decent shenmue sequal.

I still don't get why they won't accept funding from Sony? I can't believe Sony wouldn't fund $2 million. To have them out there on their stage....

There must be a reason they are going this route. Also don't certain games use KS as a base to show the fan interest is there, then get full funding later? If not, it feels like they are doing this method by choice and rejected further funding? I can't believe they weren't offered funding. It's too unbelievable. At $2 million, l can't believe Sony would make it a focus of their show, and at the same time wouldn't fund their $2 million budget?

Maybe I don't get how this works, or I underestimate what Sony would fund?

I'd assume Sony funded it somewhat, otherwise why would it be a console exclusive?

They've already shown off NMS and UC4. Horizon is the only new thing on that list. No, I don't own a PS4. But I WANT A REASON TO OWN ONE. Something new! Horizon? That looked cool man! Show me more, don't spend so much time on things that I've seen before and other old shit.

Uh what? Dreams, Fire Watch, Rigs, and Horizon are all brand new. It's an early demo and they've got limited room for announcements, they're not going to devote precious time after showing off a very well received gameplay section.

Also as to you incorrectly using the word pandering, it has one meaning regardless of whether you think others using it incorrectly means we're not allowed to call you out for it. It wasn't pandering, period. Even in the incorrect way it's sometimes used, it still didn't apply even in that incorrect definition.

There's absolutely no way they can make a real shenmue game for 5 million, that's the true tales from the ass. No one besides those in those companies know who will finance the rest, most likely it will be a multitude of sources.

Seriously you think Broken Age which got 3.5 mil of the original 400k asked and still wasn't even close to enough to fund the entire game (both halves) as confirmed by Schafer in interviews, and Shenmue is somehow going to make due with 5 mil? This game can easily cost north of 15 million when it's all said and done.

Yeah Sony would never fund a PC version of a game....wait ...wait, SF5....oh yeah......

Dylan Jobe referred to it in a tweet, that normally when a Kickstarter game is that low, $2 million dollars, there is other funding already secured if the goal is met. Its a test to gauge public interest. He isn't making it up, he is referring to the tweet. Speaking of Dylan Jobe, where is my damn Warhawk Remake, Remaster, Sequel damn it.

Just FYI for those wondering about the 'budget' and Kickstarter:

I was shocked by this too. It's such a weird sentiment to see in certain places. Sony showed nothing but games, most of which with direct gameplay along with 3 of the most wanted titles in gaming history and they get a B/tied with MS/Sony has no games/generic bullshit criticisms. On the other hand, MS got solid reviews for showing Halo/Gears/Forza for the 10th straight year along with a bunch of 3rd party titles that will look and perform the worst on Xbox. Besthesda showed like 4 games at their event and EA's was an absolute dumpster fire. It's ridiculous how little credit Sony is getting from some places for pulling off one of the best E3s of all time.

Yup.

But its to be expected by now, imo. Media is just like the rest of the 1% that waste no time in telling you how bad something is. Even when the majority loves that said product. Its all for the attention and reactions.

As I look back on things...

FFVII and Shenmue we likely wont see for 3-5 years. Thats a long ass time. Yu takes ages to make his games. FFVII probably wont even get going until after KH3. These are crazy early reveals.

Last Guardian - you cant disappear for 7 years and come back looking exactly the same. The only game that I can even remotely compare its situation to is Team Fortress 2. We all know what the disappearance act turned that game into.

The best game of this conf was probably Horizon. Really interesting combo of indians and technology - with what seemed like some deep shooting gameplay (shooting guns off of the enemies for example).

Agreed on the top two points. The hype train is covering up the reality of release dates for those games.

Horizon looks amazing though. Really like the fact that they went a completely new direction with what they do. I hope this is truly open world, because their FPS' have always felt weak to me. Horizon is currently my pick for game of the conference.

I don't think you know what objectively means if you're talking about "winning E3" lol

Alright Mr. No fun allowed

=) very clear of what the term means. Hence, why I've used it to emphasise how fucking batshit crazy this e3 has been.

... And yes "technically" it is subjective... And not objective.

But dude... Shenmue 3/FF7 Remake...

Was he thrilled when he found out who you were?

Lol I'm not a celebrity man, I'm more of a loser in clumsy dork in real life. There was a guy from GAF who was huge into bloodborne, and another guy who rarely posts on the gaming side. Both were mega cool.

....5 mil?

Are you fucking serious. Uncharted 2 costed 20 mil to make.

Exactly right.

Even I never played shenmue, probably won't get FF7 even though it's my GOAT because I spent hundreds of hours on it already and I'm not even into TLG really... But they just had a stream of games, somethings for everyone.
Straight up if you didn't like this conference you probably aren't really that into gaming

I guess E3 2015 will go down in history as the year that long-dead dreams came true.

It's nice to have an E3 with what is likely to be a universally positive legacy, at least, and the positivity is palpable. There are people out there who have reason to be excited and I will not stand in their way, despite what people think just because I have a contrary opinion on certain things.

A happy E3 is a good E3, no question.

It seems like NeoGAF has a strong love of the old PlayStation, whereas Reddit doesn't. It's like watching mirrors. One loves the confefence, the other hates it.

After the MS conf Sony really didn't need that much to have a better presentation and they went ahead and had one of the best ever.

Crazy crazy stuff. Horizons is better than I ever even imagined
