Giant Bomb @ E3 2015 | L.A. on Lockdown

This makes me really miss the old 1up E3 days :(. Theres always the right amount of joy/hype as well as concern and cynicism. Giantbomb is just depressing to watch. Why would I want to watch a bunch of guys looking bored and shitting on everything in a medium that I love? Thats like only watching movies with people who always just points out flaws in movies and tells everyone how bad it is and how much they hate it. I don't need GT level reactions but some joy every now and then would be nice.

You want them to cry tears of joy for a remake or for a kickstarter?

had a ton of fun watching giant bomb cover e3 again

i wouldn't be losing my mind over the Sony conference either - just like I didn't lose my mind over the MS conference.

I find the GT reactions super embarrassing.

1) I love Ueda's games honestly. ICO and SOTC are really up there for me, but who are we kidding TLG is fucking long over due. I'm talking nearly 10 years. Them having a gameplay demo was nice, but I'd honestly not accept anything less at this point. I was happy to see it, but like the bombcrew I found it a very tame and predictable demo -- there's a lot more to be seen for my interest to really kick up a notch after waiting for this long.

2) I have the same sentiment towards the FF7 remake announcement. Great, it's here, finally, but come on, nearly ten years for this as well (FF7 tech demo on PS3) and now that they finally announce/confirm it all they show is a CGI trailer? Great, neat, what ever. Who gives a shit? I gave up caring about this years ago and the declining interest in the Final Fantasy series isn't some isolated phenomenon so lets be real. Wake me up when I can see a semblance of action.

3) I love Shenmue, I am excited for another Shenmue. That said - It's been so long (like the titles above) does what worked back then continue to work today? It's hard to be convinced with no footage, but it's even harder to swallow when you see that they need funding to move forward with it. I'm sure they'll get it, but that reads to me like this game is a long ways away.

Call me cynical or jaded all you want, but of course there is counting for differing tastes. I love the "let's cut the bullshit, this isn't our first rodeo" approach that Giant Bomb gives. If you want grown men screaming and jumping over marketing PR there are a ton of outlets for that.

It makes their actual excitement over certain announcements more genuine and real.

Which brings us back to the part where it strikes me like some of them act as though they are prisoners in their careers. How do you go years and years without being excited over the medium you've chosen to dedicate your career to? It defies logic.

I think one thing that defies logic is how you've been commenting for most of the day about your dislike for the people on GB yet you haven't left and gone and watched it elsewhere. They liked plenty of stuff, all day.

As someone that loved FF7 when it came out, why would I want it again over a full-fledged, new Final Fantasy?

We've already played through that experience. But, I haven't bought a single remaster, so maybe I'm just not the type of person that is being pandered to. If people want to buy the same game again, more power to them, but as someone that adored FF 7-10, this makes me actively dislike Square's direction.

But, seeing the positive praise and how much it will likely sell, it's no wonder they are doing it. Especially with how lack-luster the last few games in the series have been. Why try to build a new experience when you can take a smaller workload and probably see a bigger profit margin?
Answered your own question here... Not to mention the fact that it felt like we were teased about the existence of this game at the PS3 reveal... add a decade and this is the reaction.

I'm stoked to hear that they're actually attempting it. Really curious to see what it ends up being... Or I guess since this is a GB thread, I'll phrase it accordingly: I'm curious to see in just how many ways it will be blasphemous to the original

Until Dawn in August

Tearaway Unfolded In september

Uncharted Collection in October

Dragon Quest Heroes also in October

Helldivers was in March

So was BloodBorne

MLB:THE SHOW

Microsoft has Tomb Raider, Ori Blind Forest, Halo 5, Forza 6, Gears of war ultimate.

One of those games has been released, the rest are this Holiday.

If your into those type of releases, more power to you, the same is for Sony. People who say they don't have anything are fooling themselves.

Next year, Xbox doesn't look so hot, and if you ask me IMHO the first half of 2015 goes to Sony.
Given the crowd for third party content this fall on both platforms but IPs could Sony have that survive the fall without being forgotten. I can only think of three, God of War, Uncharted, and Last of Us. Uncharted coming in the spring will do well in spite of itself.
To me this argument is a product of the console war mentality; Sony needs to have something to go against Microsoft or they will lose out. I don't think that is the case, Sony is riding on a real strong layer of loyalty and excitement. Microsoft has not been able to match right now and may never be able to. Plus just to add to it Sony has built a strong foundation with big brands in gaming so even though these brand aren't exclusives people will think of the Playstation name.

here's my question

how much dlc can they cram in there

Advent Children Skins for all the characters

I must have missed this. Summation please?

Saying the game doesn't matter, waste of resources, everyone played it already, questioning who wants it where Dan brought up the point of remaking it for the generation that didn't play it (thus negating the everyone has played it line) and possibly would want to because of what they heard.

It was an interesting point from Dan but i think if they were gonna really go for that angle then stuff would have to be changed and that is a whole fucking can of worms being opened (As Austin correctly pointed out, though not verbatim as my comment lol).

Also it was funny that Dan of all people (due to not being a fan of jrpgs) had to defend the game.

I am fine with GiantBomb's cynicism because it can often be totally hilarious.

I am fine with GameTrailers' enthusiasm because it is sincere and totally infectious.

Watching the sony conference. Man, Vinny and Jeff together are freaking hilarious. They need to move to the same coast damnit!

I thought you were talking about the GT stream?

1) i thought the gb stream was boring, where someone would say something in a monotonous voice and a couple people would shake their head and agree

2) i don't think people should shit on gametrailers because they're not upholding the same "integrity" or "professionalism" as gb

I'm pretty sure he is viewing it as someone who had his fill of FF7 18 years ago and would rather that money be allocated to new projects. Which is completely reasonable.

That is not a waste of resources though, that is selfishly wanting something for himself. There is obvious demand for this, and that is why it exists. Besides, like it matters anyways. Brad doesn't want to see any Final Fantasy game be made, so any resource Square has is wasted on him.

I think one thing that defies logic is how you've been commenting for most of the day about your dislike for the people on GB yet you haven't left and gone and watched it elsewhere. They liked plenty of stuff, all day.

Because people responded with posts and brought up points which I felt I could respond to. What's wrong with discussing it in a healthy manner?

Yeah, hopefully it turns out well. Pretty odd to not see anything about it in Sony's conference, unless I just missed it.

Square Enix a few weeks ago, I think, said that FFXV flat out won't be at E3 this year, Not sure if the same was said about KH3 but I wouldn't be surprised

But at the same time it makes me wonder what's gonna happen at their press conference and what their general plan is. Like, will everything be planned around FFXV and FFVIIRE? Or will those games even come out anytime soon.

They're definitely getting better though. I'm still kinda surprised they updated the FFXV Episode Duscae. It's not like they live in a vacuum, they fucking know these games have to come out eventually and they can't dick around like before

Vinny's comment about how the FF7 reveal was the new TLG had me laughing.

The only points you use in reply are how they hate everything and are insufferable. Jeff has said so many times if he hated what he does he wouldn't be doing it. Leave it at that. You can keep trying to convince people that they hate what they do because you don't care for them but I don't see the point of it nor do I understand how that is "healthy" in any way.

Yeah. It's like he gave his opinion, from his own personal feelings on the situation. Pretty weird.

Exactly. The GT guys can be as hyped as they want and cry over Shenmue 3 being announced as if it was a cure for cancer. That's completely fine and I'm not going to persecute him for it. Good on him for being so happy.

But imagining Jeff and the rest of the crew doing that.... I can't see it. I've been watching them for 7 years now, I know how they react to things. So when people come here and act all outraged that they aren't bouncing out of their seats, yeah that ain't Giant Bomb and I wouldn't want them to be any other way.

Agree.

But in years past they would have visitors (developers, industry employees) on, and the visitors would generally lighten the mood. (Like Geoff from IGN...didn't he take off his shirt?) Also, beer and drinking was the norm...and it would be evening discussions and the guys would be way more relaxed.

This year they just seemed bored. Maybe it was the early starts.

Gotta say I'm not big on Giantbomb other than during E3, and this year I found them less enjoyable to listen to.

They just get excited about different things. I'm not that excited over Shenmue or FF7. The Last Guardian looks interesting but I wanted to see more. My reaction is the same as theirs. Outside of a handful of games, I don't think there was a ton of stuff to go crazy for.

They thought Horizon looked cool (me too). There were other games they thought were interesting throughout the day. They still care about games. Look at their Top Ten end of year lists.

Sadly, I do think the series isn't for me anymore. At least we have Persona coming soon, the Golden gave me the same joy as my favorite Final Fantasies.

A kickstarter to a game whose story I never thought in a million years I was going to see the conclusion of.

So a major publisher asking for crowdfunding is okay now, so long as its a game you really like.

What if Rockstar does a kickstarter for a new Bully. That'd be okay?

People are criticizing (not "shitting on") gametrailers for acting like children at a giant corporate marketing conference. If it doesn't bother you that's fine but no one was being unreasonable.

This is usually during the after hours streams, which start tomorrow after the Square conference (I believe). There will be plenty of ruckus to be had then.

Yeah. It's like he gave his opinion, from his own personal feelings on the situation. Pretty weird.

Then just say that's not for me or no thanks. Waste of resources is both hyperbolic and untrue. He can not like it, but that doesn't make it waste of resources. It would be like calling Call of Duty a waste of resources, do you realize how ridiculous that would sound?

You people shitting on the hosts of comedic talk shows on GameTrailers because they were acting in character are being absolutely childish and embarrassing.

well ok

sure. i wouldn't back it. but sure.

How about really enthusiastic about ANYTHING that is announced by anyone? Like others have said (and I certainly agree) there were positive comments made, but it was just a monotone remark and a bunch of head nods. At this point HL3 could be announced, and its free and comes with a free working gravity gun and these guys will be like "looks cool" *nods* "yeah but that gravity gun will probably be gimmicky" Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on these guys because they don't agree with me, its just that I just want them to be excited about something in this medium, the cynicism is overwhelming.

I feel like part of the reason the gt gif looks hilarious is because of the setting, it's like if a bunch of stock investors got up and started lighting their booth on fire on MSNBC or something. lol. that sick set, all them suits, and then they're just leapfrogging over one another in excitement.

good on 'em

well ok
.
I haven't been following every single post made so perhaps so people were being silly. Either way, doesn't really matter. If you dig that form of reaction, rather real or acted than it's available to you.

What do you actually want to see? It's a reaction stream made in the moment, one wouldn't expect all that much to actually be happening. If they see a game they really like(such as Horizon) how should they as professional paid adults act instead?

It's really hard to have a meaningful discussion about it when people are completely and intentionally mischaracterizing how the guys react to the press conferences today. I'm bowing out of this.

I'm just stating what it appears to be to me.

Saying it's been years and years since they last got excited isn't healthy discussion, it's a load.

Like I said, it sure appears like that to me. Every time I come back to to GB to see what's new I get reminded of it.

You want them to cry tears of joy for a remake or for a kickstarter?

It would have been nice to finish watching the show thinking "oh gaming is great" instead of "meh games".

Gametrailers have just been such a stark reenergizing contrast to that.
I mean I don't care about Shenmue but it's nice to see people display that passion for their favorite games something I used to do because games are an awesome hobby.

And no I don't need GB to be that, like I said I still like them but I'm not going to lie about how I felt after watching the show, it felt just weird that I had 0 excitement about anything after such a good conference especially because I still remember the old days of people presenting sales and stats.

I was at least hoping for GB PAX panel vibes that's a good amount of positivity and fun vibes to have.

I'm pretty sure I've heard the GB crew talk about their disdain for game journalists who go to these events and lap up the PR and the freebies like a bunch of squealing fanboys. You could practically see it on their faces when the crowds at those events cheered for things.

They've been in this for a long time now. Jeff has been doing this longer than E3 has been around. This isn't the first time that major announcements like this come out. It's the critical eye of people who know what they're looking at, not exactly "cynicism".

For what it's worth, I saw a fair amount of positive remarks from them for the things they liked (as well as remarks about things they wanted to see)
