I'm in the older bracket (39), and I am way more excited for Fallout 4 and Doom than I am for TLG. I really liked SoTC and ICO though, so I am def interested in playing it when it drops

FF7 and Shenmue have no impact on me at all. I think it is because when these games were popular, I was heavily into PC gaming (I am a relative newbie to console gaming)

The collective reaction to the 3 games is def more intensified here than other places.

I'm with you. I'm interested in TLG and FF7, looking forward to playing them. But yeah, was far more interested in Doom and Fallout.

Different strokes, but I'm legit shocked about the praise for a kickstarter at an E3 conference and for a remake.

Then again, I was also shocked when people applauded multiplayer going behind the PS+ paywall.

Damn Sony is good at press conferences. Get people to applaud and cheer things they'd have pitchforks over at other shows.

Kyle Bosman: "That was a show of legends"

Agree! I'm still legit shocked.

Agreed, think of all the possibilities now.

After this E3 goddamn near anything is possible now. This is a brave new world we're entering here folks. A world of dreams coming true. The future's never been more uncertain yet full of so much hope.

All I cared about was Gran Turismo and Morpheus yet this conference still left me satisfied. Probably the GOAT. That opening 20 minutes just killed everything. We'll never see megatons in succession like that again.

But the lack of Morpheus still hurts. I'm hoping the lack of NMS release date means it's coincides with the launch of Morpheus.

Best E3 show ever...this was the Twilight Princess moment for Sony...Tripled....3 games...3 of the most dead games...not supposed to happen...I have seen dreams come true tonight Gaf....I've cried tears...I thought KH3 made me spaz...this right here? New levels...I'm still pondering reality...best show ever...

This still looks like an April Fools joke.

How was it historic? Just announcements for games coming out in the next few years. One for a project that seemed dead and buried, another for a franchise that was buried, and a remake of a classic game. What here is historic? Maybe TLG will become one of the great games, but we won't know until it's, you know, released. An announcement is historic?

Hey, if the conference didn't do anything for you personally then that's fine, but there are a lot of people going apeshit right now and for good reason. It's rare that you get what are widely considered three megaton announcements in the span of one hour, but it happened, and Sony's show this year will go down in history as one of the all time great E3 events.

the ''sony will fund the rest'' is tales from the ass, there has been no indication of this, just fan dreams.Sony wouldn't bother funding the PC version would they.

I think he wants the team small and self funded so yu suzuki can retain control.

Its Yu suzuki's way or the high way
basically.

I can see this kickstarter ending at $5 million, enough to make a pretty decent shenmue sequal.
No friend. It is very likely that an investment group (that very likely includes Sony), has approved X amount of funding based on stepped raises; Starting at 2M. This happens in the non-gaming world all the time. Trust me ...I'm a mini expert.

Pro-tip: Get a dictionary. When you say something is lacklustre then yes you are talking about the quality, if you're talking about new IP's then perhaps make that clear by using useful phrases such as "new" or "IP". If you use the word pandering then you are talking about something immoral or distasteful because that is what the word means. I'm sure I could go online and find tens of thousands of examples of people incorrectly using words they dont fully understand, it still wouldnt make that usage correct (just like context isnt a magic trick that makes it correct either).

Pandering can just mean to appease. It doesn't necessarily mean that it appeals to your immoral or distasteful sensibilities. You can pander to a crowd. It doesn't necessarily say anything about their character.

Lackluster: lacking in vitality, force, or conviction; uninspired or uninspiring.
Not quality.

This is a strange argument over semantics. This is the end on my part because that's the only thing you seem to be interested in and not actually discussing the event.

Edit: If you're happy about this event then by all means know that I'm genuinely happy that you're happy. I don't want to end this reply with some weird passive aggressive sentence. If you're getting the game that you want then more power to you.

I think there's a very good chance all three of these games end up sucking, given that one is a remake of a bad game by a studio that's been off its game for years, another is a sequel to two bad games, and the other has been in development hell for eternity/seems like it's retreading Ico pretty hard which is disappointing both because its a retread and because Ico is a much weaker game than SotC.

...all that said, the hype is pretty undeniable.

I'll probably end up enjoying the Taken King more than any other game from the conference. I really hope TLG can excel, though.

Not kidding, after Shenmue 3, we actually had to open a champagne bottle... holy shit.

Very excited about everything of couse, but Game of The Show was Horizon to me.

Never expected Guerrilla to make somethinf THAT unique and exciting.

Best E3 show ever...this was the Twilight Princess moment for Sony...Tripled...

This actually brings up an interesting point. Nintendo is still dogged to this day by never being able to outdo the Twilight Princess hype from that conference, with the exception of the original Wii conference in 2006, which corresponded with a Twilight Princess port, anyways. It still gets mentioned as this major defining moment and everything after it was a downward slide.

Could this actually make Sony's future efforts at E3 suffer the same sort of accidental backlash when it can't ever hope to reach the same pinnacle in the eyes of many gamers?

This conference was seriously fast paced compared to other Sony conference, it really didn't linger that much like years past.

We have people wonder why Sony had these long conferences just recently, and if anything it seems this conference was really too short for so much content, didn't touch on the Uncharted Collection, Bloodborne DLC, the next Gran Turismo, etc, they amazingly just touched on Morpheus for a few minutes, this was true for everything, even the PS Vue thing was only a few quick minutes, everything just slammed one right after another.

Unless this is your first E3, I'm not sure why you're under the impression you are the sole person capable of comparing a presentation to a game's final release. What's your secret?

Reading comprehension. Gie it a try rather than project nonsense. Part of my secret is not being passive aggressive.

I just find the excitement in reaction to a show with little new to show a tad unhealthy and I will and can call these events out if I want to. I see no reason to get excited for things i saw last year and especially for things that are in process of being funded. this excitement tends to lead to massive disappointment. The industry is hardly running on any efficiency right now to negate fears of rushed and poorly optimized products with little to no new ideas to demonstrate. It amazes me how short term gamers' memories are.

But i should settle because, lol, every year, right? How is this any different than any other E3?

Wow

They put on a fantastic show, obviously. Tons of great stuff. But a game that had an announce 8 years ago, a remake and a kickstarter and everyone goes nuts. I just... I dunno. This is just so weird. I don't understand it.

But rock on and enjoy it!

I get that this was an amazing conference for a lot of GAF which has an older demographic, but the three megatons...

FF7 remake
Shenmue 3
TLG

I don't really care for any of the them and I'm sure a lot of people in my age group would agree (20 and younger). Which is I think why you see the relatively muted reception on places like Reddit.

I'm in the same age group. I'm not excited for the games themselves (none of them interest me), I'm more excited that people have been asking for these games for YEARS and it's finally being announced. Plus the reactions are priceless and it's hard not to get excited from those reactions.

Agreed. Legendary for years to come. Seriously looks like a repeated April Fools joke used for the past couple of years. Except for this one hour, it happened. All at once. I still can't believe it actually happened. Unbelievable!

Sony apparently talks about useles things for too long, people complain how bad it is and moan.

Sony drops three megatons? People still moan about it. lel

Nostalgia, smoke and mirrors.

I'm a Nintendo fan, I've seen this before. :P But this risk-aversion kickstarter part... that's total bullshit. I'll buy all the chargerless 3DSs, but this really worries me.

I just finished watching the conference since I had class. Between FF 7, Sheume, and TLG I cannly imagine how Gaf handled things.

Overall I feel like Sony had an excellent. Most of those games interested me so I can't wait to try them out. the Guerilla Games game looked very interesting. The new Final Fantasy game felt like a Crystal Chroicles game but I'm sure it is going somewhere different. No news on FF 15 makes we wonder if we will see it next year (unless S-E is saving it for tommorrow). All of these upcoming games makes me excited as a PS4 owner. I have had a Nintendo/Sony combo for a long time and that combo continues to work perfecly for me.

If Playstation Vue just picked up the ESPN channels I would be all over that and drop Sling TV. They already have my CSN Chicago which is huge.

On a final note, is it time to confirm the Vita as an afterthought on our side of the Pacific?

There's also the older demographic (40+) which could be in the same boat as the young people you're talking about.

This particular conference just hit a bullseye with a certain slice of the population bursting with nostalgia for things like FF7.

On the other hand, people 40 and up were probably far more excited by the Doom announce than something like TLG.

Good points you bring up.

I'm almost 40 (holy shit I'm getting old) played doom when it first came out.

To me another Doom is meh. FF7 was my 1st JRPG, can't wait to replay it with my kids. Ueda is amazing, ICO and shadow of the colossus are freaking masterpieces. Shenmue was an Interesting game. In many ways it was before its time and esablished many modern conventions that games like GTA use today.

there is definitely some nostalgia at play but these series were at some pivotal points in gaming history, I would be much more excited for a new doom if carmack had anything to do with it (he doesn't afaik?)

Inevitable in this community. A fair amount of people have a weird obsession with evaluating things from the companys perspective rather than a consumer perspective, stemming from a desire to frame everything as platform wars. When Sony/MS/Nintendo do something good for them as a company but bad for consumers its glossed over, because in their mind its good their platform of choice has more ammo for the 'war'.

Man the excitement around FFVII terrifies me for the future of this industry. Its a 20 year old game, getting new graphics and the internet is exploding. Why make new games when all anyone wants is literally the same games over and over with new graphics?

That's a rather over-simplistic way to look at things I think and it doesn't even try to take into account WHY people would be excited.

An old game, a remake, and a kickstarter of a game not even in development? Doesn't excite me at all because it has no nostalgia to pull off of, I am too young to care about Shenmue even though I played them after the fact, and I stopped caring about FF after XIII killed my love of the franchise. Heck, I am actually probably too young to even care about FFVII, really.

Horizon genuinely excited me, its a great looking, new IP. I want more of that, and I might buy a PS4 for it.
