Does the XB1 upscale the old games? Will performance be better? If yes to either of those 2 questions, then yes, its a cool addition.
If it is just "Play 360 games on XB1" I don't see this as a big deal at all.
THIS SHIT IS EXACTLY LIKE THE 360 BC. THIS IS GOING TO BE A DISASTER. UGH.

I was excited at first but seeing the small list of titles and it being emulation based, I think it's very low chance to have many games available. If ikaruga, radiant silvergun, and guardian heroes pop up someday il! Be happy, but I'm keeping my 360 for now and not expecting much from the emulation.
I don't understand how they can say there is no work required for third parties?
Can every game just run on this without testing needed? Seems really weird how they worded it. If its an emulator there will be work involved.

Doubt it but, Kinect games? The only one in my collection I care about is Fable the Journey... just because I like complete collections.
Of course it is emulation based. Magic elves aren't going to come in the night and put 360 chips into your Xbox one.
"Small Arms" is on the compatibility list and I own it digitally but it's not showing up in my list to install. All the others did except that one.
Everything I know about emulation says this shouldn't be possible. Would love to know how this is being pulled off. Amazed.
Small Arms and Geo Wars 2 were the ones that didn't show up for me. Still aren't there.
It's not showing up for me either.
Not exactly, the games have been recompiled to work on Xbox One.
from what I understand there is still some minor emulation going on, though.
So what percentage of 360 games were based on the Direct X API? Did some use OpenGL? If so, I wonder if those will ever work?
I'm guessing the reliance on DirectX for the 360 is a big part of the magic.
The games are indicated as _x64_ in their descriptive titles (like most other Xbox One titles), which implies they've been recompiled. Either way Microsoft pulled off some software wizardry to get this running, especially if there is no effort/modification required from devs to enable it.It's an emulator. They've said this themselves. Where are you getting it from that they're being "recompiled"?
Havnt had time to read the previous posts, but can someone explain how running a 360 emulated game interacts with gamerscore/achievements? thanks.

Isn't it weird how different people can want different things?
Does How does this works for digital games? My 360 purchases are tied to my home xbone console and my profile? (As in, same as other xbone games?)
That's really cool. Like a 360 OS running right inside the One OS guide and everything. Hope they get to work on XBLA games as well.
Can't they add backwards compatibility to Xbox games that were backwards compatible with Xbox 360? Why limit your gaming vault, MS
What? If your console dies, can't you buy a used one, and download your digital games to it? Why would you need to hack it? =/Because in prior gens, all games were physical. If a console died...you just bought another at a garage sale. BC wasn't a big deal because used consoles are readily available.
In the last gen (PS3/360) people built up substantial digital libraries. If your console dies, you're boned (unless you hack a console to get around DRM).
BC means that your digital library is still playable w/o issue. If you have hundreds of digital games, that can be a big investment.
Joke post?
Great news! It already does.![]()
I don't think I've seen this mentioned, though this thread is 50 pages and as much as I would love to spend an hour going through them all, I can't. Both Phil and his lead hardware guy said it's native. That means the xbox games have direct hardware access. 360 doesn't run on x86(not to my knowledge) but that doesn't mean microsoft couldn't make it happen in some way, without an actual emulation. They may have just made an xbox 360 OS that runs on x86, so all the commands become compatible on an x86 system. They can then integrate this x86 360 OS through the excellent use of One's Hypervisor. For more information, there is a great explanation on this page:

Sony is going to have a tough time if it's even possible for them to match this.
YES. viva piñata, pdz, and kameo are downloading.
