great e3 day overall for everyone (except maybe EA)

last gaurdian looks like a great emotional adventure and i cant wait to play horizon.

Man the excitement around FFVII terrifies me for the future of this industry. Its a 20 year old game, getting new graphics and the internet is exploding. Why make new games when all anyone wants is literally the same games over and over with new graphics?

sounds like you need to take a look at the film industry.

Exactly.

Today feels like things moved backwards.

Xone backwards compatibility and FFVII remake are some the biggest pieces of news out of the show. Ugh.

I'm hoping Compilation of FFVII officially ends with the Remake and the fanbase of that singular entry in the series can settle down at last.
I'm way more excited for FFXIV's first expansion (which has early access this Friday) than I am for a remake of an 18 year-old game, myself, since it's something new to the series.

Speaking of something else new for the series:
Ok. Thanks for the clarification. Im still not holiding my breath though lol
I don't think you have to worry; the Powers That Be have said multiple times during Tabata's Active Reports on FFXV that GamesCom is the start of their heavy marketing campaign for the game until its eventual release.

Even if one ignores the 'weight' of the dream-come-true announcements, those were still content admirable of a good E3:

I mean, let's talk the big stuff, we've got:

First Party:
Horizon
TLG
Dreams
Rig (Morpheus)

Third-Party:
World of FF
FFVII:R (timed exclusive)
Shenmue 3 (console exclusive)

4 first-party announcements, 3 of them AAA-caliber announcements.
3 third-party announcements, 2 that aren't timed.

5 high-calibre announcements is pretty decent for an E3. There is no E3 where publishers announce a gazillion exclusives.

From what Kagari is saying FF VII:R might be a PS4 exclusive and might come out on PC sometime later. She mentioned the situation being very similar to SFV.

i'm exited by ff7 but it was CGI , no ?
Can i assume it will take some more take to come ?

The excitement is more so we know it's in development. We haven't gotten to the stage of being skeptical about real time vs CG (that happens if we get like, 2 or 3 more trailers that are just CG).

Unbelievable conference that will be remembered for years to come.

The sad part is that we probably won't get to play FFVII Ramake and Shenmue 3 for another 3 years.

I definitely see your point but I think Final Fantasy VII is more of the exception. After all there is a decent anount of negativity towards HD remakes (at least on Gaf).

Trust me I have enough fears with the future of the industry. The reaction to this remake doesn't add much for me.

An old game, a remake, and a kickstarter of a game not even in development? Doesn't excite me at all because it has no nostalgia to pull off of, I am too young to care about Shenmue even though I played them after the fact, and I stopped caring about FF after XIII killed my love of the franchise.

Horizon genuinely excited me, its a great looking, new IP. I want more of that.
It's an old game everyone's been clamouring and angrily screaming about since it seemed to be cancelled.

It's a remake of probably the majority of the Western World's first JRPG

And the last is the Kickstarter for a story that for 14 years never got an ending.

If it doesn't excite you sure, but to deny why they're exciting seems disingenuous. It may not be things you enjoy but simplifying it like that as an attempt to deflate hype is really curmdgeon-like. There's very easy reasons to understand why everyone is so excited about these things.

This gif still cracks me up

Yeah, nobody was excited for anything else this show. No way.

Please.

so we're getting a new chrono game announcement at tgs right? i don't know how else they top this.

did wish persona 5 got some rub...isn't that still supposed to be coming out this year?

The only thing that could have made this even more perfect was the announcement that Silent Hills was back in production.

I really don't understand why remakes are so desired by the gaming community. If a game like Final Fantasy 7 or Majora's Mask is so good that it needs to be remade, was it ever that great to begin with? Is Final Fantasy 7 just a mediocre game that had lots of potential but isn't fun to play today? If your biggest desire is for a company to remake your favorite game, then it's like you're admitting that the original kind of sucks.

Sony dropped what many would argue were the biggest bombs possible. But I feel like it was Guerrilla Games and Horizon that really stole the show. That game looked absolutely phenomenal.

This makes no sense.

Nah, it's admitting that it's so good, I'd like to continue playing it on modern hardware. Your post is silly.

They put on a fantastic show, obviously. Tons of great stuff. But a game that had an announce 8 years ago, a remake and a kickstarter and everyone goes nuts. I just... I dunno. This is just so weird. I don't understand it.

But rock on and enjoy it!

I don't get how you don't get that a message board comprised of enthusiast gamers would be excited to find out 3 beloved franchises were indeed still alive and kicking. I just... I dunno. This is just so weird. I don't understand it.

This is called a "super stretch".

Agreed. That and the new Final Fantasy game (not 7) were my favorite new games announced. Horizon isn't getting any headlines today but I can't wait to sink my teeth into it.

Can someone compile the reactions on the GT Twitch stream for all 3 Sony megatons? Sums up my reactions to the Sony presser. Such an amazing conference for the fans.

You really haven't thought this through have you? Lol. It generally implies a game is so good, gamers want to experience it all over again, but with improved tech and visuals, on modern hardware. Problem with the classics is that whilst many still play just as well, they also often look and run shit by today's standards, it's the latter people mostly want to see "Remastered".

Is this the greatest conference ever?

Seriously, I can't think of another time that 3 absolute MEGATONS, that were just this morning thought to be impossible for any one of them (let alone all three), were all announced ON TOP of insanely good looking first party reveals and new gameplay for AAA first party titles.

WHAT THE FUK!?!?

I just can't get over how hard Sony went. MS set the bar REALLY high and Sony blew them out of the goddamn water.

Cool. But until that clarification comes out, the language implies it could be timed, because we don't know the full details beyond the language used on-screen, unlike WoFF which was explicitly stated "console exclusive."

Anyway, regardless of VII's exclusivity status or not, this is at least a 'good E3.'

Trying to remain as unbiased as possible.

I feel like the fact that Shenmue needed a kickstarter is really dumb. I mean Sony will take all the glory of announcing the game but won't chip in 2m to fund it? Sony's thrown far more money at far less deserving titles, so why couldn't they help fund this one? Part of me thinks that the Kickstarter is a PR stunt, but part of me fears that Sony just wants to reap the rewards of the game without having to invest anything into it, and that this kind of thing will become the norm. For everyone's sake I hope that's not the case.

Not a FF fan (Haven't played any) but I can't think of a single game that I would say justifies the massive reaction to remaking FF got. Maybe I'm old-fashioned but remakes really don't excite me. I suppose that the FF7 remake was a long-time coming but with no release date it could still have quite a ways to go before it's actually out.

Last Guardian was practically a meme at this point. It's been in the incubator for 6 years and seeing it again it looks the exact same as it did 6 years ago. Sorry for being so negative, but what were they doing in those 6 years? They've been working on this game for 6 years since we last saw it, and very little has changed. Well at least it still looks as charming as it did back then. The trailer was far too slow-paced for my tastes though. Will have to see how the final game actually turns out.

The run time was a lot shorter then I expected, and it was fairly well-paced too, although I feel like it was extremely front-loaded as there wasn't much hype at the end besides the UC4 demo, which although definitely looks good, is still Uncharted so nothing really ground-breaking gameplay-wise there. It feels like Sony really got the better end of the Third-Party stick at this conference, with a fairly solid Battlefront gameplay trailer, and dare I say the most full-featured Cod reveal yet considering most E3 Cod reveals only show Single-Player and this featured Multiplayer. Unfortunately, it meant we also had to sit through thoroughly unexciting Destiny DLC and Disney Infinity reveals. Also I was gone for it but I heard there was an extremely snooze-worthy Playstation Netflix part too that no one seems to be bringing up.

Horizons actually looked pretty good, although the gameplay was losing me at the end. Of course, The Order 1886 LOOKED good as well, so you can never tell these days. No Man's Sky's greatness will be determined by how diverse each world is, in my opinion. The fact that there are pretty much infinite planets to explore doesn't mean much if they all look like the same 10 planets, which is what I fear. If every desert planet, every rainforest planet, and every grassy meadow planet feel the same, then it really kills the drive to explore if you know that no matter where you go it's going to feel exactly the same as someplace you've already been to. Of course, there's no way to know until the game is launched, so it's a bit early to ask these questions.

Overall the best conference so far IMO, but I could totally see Nintendo defending it's title this year if they can pull some big reveals. Nintendo already has a jump-start thanks to their hype as hell Nintendo World Championships they did yesterday. And if they have anything good to showcase, the Nintendo Treehouse stream should be amazing this year as well. That being said, I think Sony deserves a 8.5-9

It's a special case. For many people it was their first ever FF as PSOne brought them to the gaming fold, and they (and I) would love to see a proper remake with good detailed graphics, instead of the bad polygons and blocky characters the original game had.

Notice how no one is asking for other FF remakes, but specifically this one? Yeah.

Although personally I would absolutely love an FF9 remake, so it can be saved from its current predicament of being the best FF game but forever abandoned as a simple PS1 re-release. Maybe sometime in the future..

10/10 conference easily. Holy shit, I can't believe all that happened in the span of an hour and a half. It might just be the best E3 conference I've seen.

- The Last Guardian reintroduction and gameplay demo.
- Horizon looked incredible and the concept (both story and gameplay-wise) were really interesting.
- Final Fantasy VII Remake directed by Nomura and still written by Nojima.
- Shenmue III announced against all odds.
- That Uncharted 4 gameplay looked pretty damn good, was funny as hell and the whole sequence was masterfully done. They're getting much better at masking the scripted parts.
