SHENMUE 3 kickstarter (PC/PS4) - FINAL DAY - NEW KS RECORD GO GO GO!

Easily the most overrate games ever. Forklift simulator 1999 got boring fast, and the Yakuza games do the concept better than Shenmue ever did.

Still, smart idea to put it on Kickstarter, was a commercial no-go otherwise

Please troll somewhere else, you're not impressing anyone with this.

AMEN lightning

Is it me, or is the Lan-Di render on the kickstarter page taken from Shenmue Online, and the Niao Sun render from old Shenmue 3 footage?

Someone should get confirmation if the Ryo and Shenhua models are placeholders or not.

It's a real shame if they have to rebuild these models from scratch.

God damn they were pretty. Still some of my favorite video game character designs ever. Actually ethnic and accurate to locales, the colors, clothing, variety, and specificity. Those passport discs..

This is a bit weird how this happened.

Haven't followed the thread but have there been any ideas yet on why Sony didn't just fund the game themselves? It's $2m ffs... that's chump change to them.
If you think Shenmue 3 can be made with 2 million dollars, you've got a lot to learn about modern game development. :D

I'll give this troll a 2/10.

Given how far hardware has come since the original it probably wouldn't be hard to use the passport character models in the full game.

Shit why did I never buy a copy of Shenmue II? Crazy expensive for the DC version already and it's only going to get worse. Glad I still have a copy of the first game.

I only read Gizmodo UK for Gary's stories. Manages to make even the most mundane story hilarious, although he's wasted on that site.

Didn't know he wrote there, might have to check it out.

So what do people expect is needed to make this the "full Sheamus experience" and get all locations from the video?

Will it even be possible for a publisher other than Sega (or Sony) to take this on as we've seen with other kickstarter projects?

This is what you get for being a non-believer. You were able to buy both PAL games for 40 quid a few years back mint

Sony were willing to support the development, no way they are going to hand over the game to their biggest rival.

Sorry, I've missed a lot of the details on this reveal. So there is a kickstarter, that was announced during the sony conference, that wants $2 million from invested gamers. Is that when sony steps in and funds the rest?

The rewards and stretch goals are not better than Iga's, but it managed to get 1.75m in a couple of hours. It took Iga 24hs to get 1m. Now it's time to see if it will have long term legs and surpass igarashi's 5.5m

Someone mentioned earlier that the game probably has investors ready to commit, but a lot of time kickstarters are used to show these investors that there is interest in a game.

Or something like that. This is likely the case. Can't imagine the game is only 2 million or yeah, Sony would have funded it.

Glorified pre-order basically. Brian Fargo on Twitter thinks that Sony being successful here will open the flood gates for more of these

I'm so in awe of how instantly successful this campaign has been.

After all the naysayers deftly dismissing it just cause they didn't have the vision for it themselves. It's so nice to see it take the first steps towards actually happening.

This E3 is the epitome of "never say never."

Ah, okay. Thanks :)

Has there been any reason given why there isn't an Xbox One version been announced?
None given, but looking at the market and the situation with Shenmue III, it's very easy to piece it together.

PC is where the Kickstarter crowd primarily lives. Sony obviously has some involvement with them giving it a spot on their E3 stage and Suzuki being seen numerous times with Sony execs in the past (Yoshida, Cerny).

Note that there's also no WiiU version announced.

Havent played any Shenmue game before, but it sounds cool. Not sure if I'm gonna pledge yet though. They probably wont get it done by 2017, but only $29 for a digital copy sounds tempting. Prolly gonna wait for the last week to see how far this project will go and what the other stretch goals are.

Nobody knows the details. We're assuming that Sony has a deal. Otherwise there would be talk of an X1 version.

Someone lemme know when/if a physical PS4 version is added to the Kickstarter, cause I'm sorry to say that without one I'm not backing. I'm not interested in a $25 digital version. Sorry if that comes across as me being a dick, I'm not trying to be. I just either want a physical PS4 version or I need to known that it's only going to be digital on PS4. If we aren't getting a physical edition at all then of course I'll drop $25 for the digital, but I'm not doing that IF a physical release will happen.

So what's SEGA's involvement with all this? No mention at all as far as I can see. Are they just letting Yu do whatever he likes with the IP?

Also does this mean we can have new Jet Set Radio now? :D

In the pdf it states "licensed from sega" so Yu has likely paid to use the IP
