Overrated? Fucking backwards compatibility is overrated?

Wow.

Sort of? I have yet to play a Wii game on my Wii U. Never played an Xbox game on my 360. I think I played Persona 4 on my PS3, but that was it. I guess I got some use out of the feature the first year of the PS2's release, but once quality PS2 games started hitting the pipeline, I promptly forgot all about it.

This is all anecdotal of course, but I have a feeling my experiences closely mirror those of the majority. Backwards compatibility is a nice feature, and given the option of having it or not, sure, I'll take it. But it's not a game-changer.

Yes of course it is overrated. The ps3 had it at the start and it didnt do much for sales. The Wiiu still has it and it doesnt do anything for sales. same goes for the vita...

The biggest megaton for you is that you can now play your old games one your One?
Seriously?

legacy platform number 2?

The conference isn't as impressive now that I start to look at release dates and time lines. The Last Guardian says 2016, but would anybody be surprised if it gets pushed another year? Shenmue 3 and and FFVII:R are almost guaranteed to be 2018 titles.

Sony did a hell of a job of making their lineup look good, I'll give them that. 2016, 2017 and 2018 look like they could be great years of exclusives. 2015... well I guess that's what third parties are for.

Backwards compatibility is the past im more concerned about the present and future
Hololens is cool and all but they didnt even hint at a release window or price point which means its not coming out till 2017 if not later and even then it will need games for it which will take another few years

I don't get how you can be so big for a release date on Hololens when Sony didn't date half the games they revealed. I mean yeah Last Guardian and FF7R hyped me more than anything for the conference, but we don't even know a release window for them, and you're knocking Microsoft for a lack of release date for Hololens?

What exactly do you mean flawlessly? Did they announce 100% backwards compatibility?

Nothing to pay for, works with disc and not just digital, a very strong showing for BC compared to PSNow.

I understand why everyone loved the Sony conference so much, but it didn't do a lot for me. I thought most of the games shown looked pretty boring, save for UC4 and I want to see how that whole sequence would play out with a normal person playing. The Shenmue III bit was great, but I wish Sony just announced they were making the game instead of a Kickstarter. It was leagues better than Microsoft's show, but that's not saying a lot.

I simply don't understand the excitement over being told that for the bargain price of 350$ you'll be able to play some 3+ year old games that you could instead play for 70$.

I get Backwards Compatibility being a care about at the time a console is launched.

But years later?

Horizon looked boring?

Okay.gif

BC is always a nice to have, but Megaton is overhyping it. It provides convenience, but nothing more.

I would love to have BC on my PS4 because my PS3 died and I am not happy to re-buy one, but most people have a PS3.

Catching up on E3 guys, I hope Nintendo has a nice showing.

I only saw TLG, Horizon, and Hitman, damn the first 2 looked insane.

Actually I am very glad Guerrilla is making something else, it looked Amazing!!!

Horizon looked everything but boring. Unique and amazing.

I think Sony took the right route with the E3 Conference. This is everything we've always wanted from an E3 conference - a hype promise of what is to come, not necessarily what is coming THIS YEAR. They showed future exclusives, polished deals for one of the biggest years for 3rd party franchises, and satisfied gaf dreams of legend.

There are quite a few smaller games and exclusives like Until Dawn that got no screen time. Remember that PGW will be around to solidify what exactly is coming this year for us, and it should be pretty good - not as strong as MS - but pretty damn good regardless

The three big "megatons" from Sony did absolutely nothing for me so I'd have to disagree with this.

Backwards Compatibility was the biggest megaton of E3 so far.

People really thought this was a megaton? I bought next get so i can play next gen games.
Also its only for like what 20 titles right now. Whoopie

Opinions are funny.

You can't have a wrong preference.. People thinking others are "fanboys" for preferring one thing to another are delusional. Sony and Microsoft had great showings. In my opinion Sony cleaned house. They gave the fans what they asked for. Yet Microsoft added a very, very important feature to the console. BC is huge. To some that will be the deciding feature. Also, I have complete faith that Gears 4 is gonna be awesome. They had a terrible demo of it, but it's still a great franchise with a decent history of quality.

It's a good time to be a gamer. If you want to argue over which is better, have at it. You'll get no where.

I'm not sure what difference is makes if a game isnt coming until 2016 or 2017 in terms of how good a conference is. Games get announced early at E3 all the time, it's nothing new. Just the fact that these games got announced at all is huge. Everyone had written off TLG as dead, FF7 remake and Shenmue III are enthusiast dream titles for 10+ years. These were legit megatons.

Well, I guess I'm one of the few that is love with Xbox One getting backwards compatibility. Really shocked that people don't care. I would've loved for it to be possible for the PS4, too. One less console to clutter under the TV.

Man alive, opinions!! How can people say if one is voted higher than the other you are delusional lol.

I care very little for the big 3 Sony announced but I do care about Uncharted/Horizon/Battlefront As I do Halo/Gears/TombRaider/Fallout. I feel Microsoft stepped up and Sony did too.

Backwards compatibility is a big deal and we would be better off if Sony had it also.

Yeah, it's weird how remasters have been getting so much backlash but suddenly a very limited selection of 360 games working on Xbone is a godsend.

Threads becoming a saltmine lol. Some people wouldn't admit to a great showing by their perceived console war opponent if their life depended on it. Keep on digging guys.

I dunno... all the games I wanted to play last gen are getting re-released so that they look and play better.

Why would I want 100% backwards compatibility when it seems like publishers are giving us the gems?

You don't know what vapor ware is obviously.
What they showed besides those Hella expensive . Unlike ms showings. Horizon and uncharted looked epic

Loved UC and Horizon is my GOTS.

Maybe I just don't understand the hype for a game that hasn't even started development (Shenmue) and a remake that just got started a few months ago in FF7. Maybe I'd rather focus on stuff that will be out before 2017 at the earliest?

no its not. it might have been during the initial software drought. Now there are over 100 new titles coming in one year's time. Aint nobody got time for the ugly old games..

It's called PS Now. It isn't very good, but it exists.

I didn't know that the PS3 games I own will work with PS Now...

Are you telling me its not a big deal to me? Nobody got time for RDR... And as phant0m just told me why is Sony investing in ugly old games....

I don't own a PS4 myself and don't plan on getting one, but I just wanted to say it blows my mind that Sony's conference was basically GAF's wishlist, lol. FF7 remake, TLG "revival" and Shenmue 3 in 2015, a "what do you do" video for No Man's Sky, Destiny's Comet expansion, etc.

Having never played ff7, never played a shenmue and never playing ico or sotc I wasn't as hyped for those announcements as everyone else, though I'm definitely interested in those games. But it was nice to see that Sony delivered on what people have been waiting for for a long time, it was a great conference. & Horizon and Uncharted looked amazing.

Who are you to say it's not? Maybe to you it's not. To someone with 40+ 360 games it may be the most important feature. You're not the end all be all decider of big dealness. It's an opinion. It's futile to argue with it.

I think a lot of people, if they have an XBO or PS4, just aren't interested in playing 360/PS3 games anymore. Christ, they've "remastered" most of the good ones anyway. Personally, I only have about a half dozen physical PS3 games left (traded the rest) and haven't booted my ps3 for non-media purposes in probably 6 months. Now that DLNA has finally arrived on PS4, I may even trade the PS3 for an XBO. I need that Rare collection something fierce.

Actually I think it is. People who like to keep their old library can get an xb1 a lot cheaper effectively and it is already cheap.

If this really will be a deciding factor in sale, dunno, but yes I wish I could sell my PS3 and use one HDMI input less (PS3 is the one input that I needed to buy a switch for).

I thought it was ok not to give dates. I mean 2015 is pretty much covered as far as big releases go, and upto spring 2016 is covered as well. Either way Sony had the strongest conference thus far in e3

Fair enough, but personally, I play a lot of niche titles that are probably never getting HD remakes, so BC would be absolutely awesome for me. My PS3 and 360 libraries of unplayed games are huge compared to my PS4 and Xbone libraries.
