Massive goodwill announcement yeah.

But announcing a kickstarter campaign is so lame in hindsight.

A multi-billion corporation asking the fans to fund some of the game lol.

Why couldn't you just fund it full stop?

It was a bad look, for sure. It says a lot about how plugged in they are to what would move the needle for enthusiasts, or more accurately, how much pull the people at Sony who are plugged in have when it comes to the E3 conference.

I don't know what to do....

Persona 5
Nier 2
FFVII
Shenmue
TLG

Uncharted 4
Horizon
Street Fighter V

Metal Gear Solid V

Jesus. What is happening?

Myself and other disagree. Obviously this is only anecdotal but I know multiple people who are buying an X1 now and selling their 360s. Having a library of playable games when you first buy a console is pretty appealing, even if they're only last gen games.

It's hilarious how backwards compat has suddenly become "super niche" now that MS has announced it.

It woulda be nice, if they announced it 2 years ago when the system actually launched. Its a nice feature, not some monster megaton. If they wanted to move consoles and show backwards compatibility was important, shit shoulda been there day 1 to influence people. People have moved on.

I'm glad it's there, it is really nice they did this and I'm sure people will use it. The xbox team has done a fantastic job fixing all the damage mattrick left behind.

Possibly one - or some - of the grounds:

a) Sony not being the legal IP holder, aside from financially operating their own WWS, can't directly get involved
b) Sega hesitant on funding the project given it's less than succesful sales history
c) Mr. Suzuki has to provide empirical evidence that there exists a substantial demand for the software

And it's hilarious that non-native BC with Xbox 360 games is what is getting some people to buy a Xbox One.

They're not even guaranteed all of the games from the Xbox 360's library; it's more like the non-native backwards compatibility with original Xbox games on Xbox 360.

I think even without the three megatons Sony had a really solid conference. They really proved that they are this generation's console of preference, considering all the 3rd party support and partnerships.

One thing that could've made it even better was the order of the reveals, i would've started with the Uncharted 4 demo and closed with the triple heart attack... just imagine ending on such a high ass note.

shots. shots everywhere!

Really surprised that people didn't expect them to show TLG here. I thought it was fairly obvious with them just re-regostering the name and coming out and saying it wasnt cancelled. They had to say something. It would've been weird if they didn't.

They are going to be pissed off when a huge chunk of their 360 libraries aren't compatible with it. Tuck it under a bed or shove it in a closet if you must, but don't get rid of your 360 unless you have no intention of ever playing a 360 game ever again.

I was disappointed that Sony - known for their hardware design - have left PS4 owners with the current controller's poorly made thumb sticks. Although an improvement over the DS3 (whom many here swore by), it is a generation behind the ergonomics of the XB1 controller. Microsoft's introduction of the Elite controller - though ridiculously priced - demonstrates a mindset that is garnered to actual gamers; they are willing to make significant changes to improve the design.

I think you need to lower your expectation for Horizon: Zero Dawn, yes the game looks very pretty and runs smooth, most Guerrilla games are. However their core gameplay mechanic in past games(ie. Killzone) leave a lot to be desired.

And I think you are a bit overcritical of other games... I get the expectation, but let's be real here... Uncharted is always Uncharted, they can't really just make huge changes in one game.(you want it to evolve, some series fans want it to stay the same)

No their story writing was up for debate before, Noone who played kz said the gameplay was bad it's butter smooth... Only twitch shooter junkies who played cod all day thought this " cuz no 360 quikskopes, too much weight, etc"

Are games like FF7, Shenmue, No Man's Sky exclusive to PS4 + PC?

Are they coming to Xbox at all, are they timed?

I was reading some reactions post mortem, and a lot of them were critical of Sony being so focused on multiplats and not showing exclusives. Though they did show 3 big ones. I was pretty surprised, but could understand the logic if those PC/PS4 games were also slated for Xbox. Lots of criticism for showing COD and Destiny too lol

It was "super niche" last gen when it did absolutely nothing for PS3. And it's "super niche" this gen as it's done nothing for WiiU.

Definitely is super niche. Its great for the Hardest of Hardcore gamers, its a nice to have but for less hardcore people they are more interested in new games imo.

Yeah, it's insane. I'll admit when I thought it was actual backwards compatability I thought about buying an Xbone again, but once it became clear exactly how limited it was going to be in practice that thought was obviously out the window. Given their track record on this front, I don't know how anyone could trust MS to cover any significant portion of the 360 library here. People are quick to forget what happened to OG Xbox BC on 360 it seems.

If you're unsure about it I wouldn't give it a second thought. I bought a phat ps3 and probably one ps2 game ever went into it... San Andreas probably just to tie you over till the new games come out.... Which was a year ago

Good move by Sony. They have not much coming out this year (except some DLC deals with Destiny and CoD, arguably the two most important games for the US market) but showing those 2016 and beyond games probably sold a million PS4s this year (which is funny, the original TLG announcement sold PS3s back in the day and now it is officially dead on PS3, never a good idea to buy a console for an announced game). And Sony got these pretty cheap, I am not sure what Sony is chipping in for Shenmue 3, but it seems that it is not even a console exclusive. FF7 is also only a timed exclusive (though I doubt SE will release it for other consoles than the PS4 in Japan).

Thanks for tuning in & I'm glad some of you enjoyed the show ;)

Congrats on the show, that was pretty memorable.

It is pretty hard for me to believe that he could make a modern Shenmue for just $2 million. There is more here than meets the eye. I don't know if Sega (or someone) said, "We will give you the money but you need to demonstrate that people 'really' want this game." Setting a $2 million Kickstarter makes people put their money where their mouth is and provides confidence to the publisher that backing it is worthwhile.

While it was hokey to have Sony pushing for people to Kickstart it, I appreciate that they took time out of a packed show to push it. I would not be surprised if Sony promised some extra monies for some level of exclusivity on top of Kickstarter and whatever the publisher (assuming Sega) is putting in.

Huh? It always was, and MS BC is limitid as fuck, hardly a big deal 2 years into the gen. Who is going to buy a x1 2 years in to play select 360 titles? Ask sony how important BC was with PS3.

yes, Sony could kill dog puppies and we gamers wouldn't mind, they have so much goodwill now from the community that after yesterday they can get away with everything.

This is nonsense, they had all kinds of goodwill with ps2 how did that work for ps3? you have a short memory.

I feel out of the loop, what exactly are you saying here? How is it limited? I thought they made a big deal about how there was "no work required", just as long as the publisher approved.

I actually thought that Shadowfall was extremely solid, mechanically.

For a subset of the enthusiast gaming audience perhaps. But I find it very hard to believe that the mass market audience or total group of console owners have these games at the top of their wish lists.

Except these announcements did dominate major media outlets and, although I hate these kind of things myself, did also dominate conversations and trends on social media...for a fact! The only place where people seem to try and refute the notion that these announcements were some of the biggest talking points of E3 among the gaming community, are a portion of Youtube commentators and select members of this forum?

No work required on the publisher's end, I assume that MS would be doing work and testing to ensure it works.

So pretty much nothing for Vita was announced outside of that lame World of Final Fantasy game, eh?

It looks like it's just indies and pervy anime games from here on out.

Then I'm afraid you've severely underestimated NeoGAF
Oh I'm not saying they wont, just that anyone that does is basically on the same level as Mattrick was in 2013 as far as the gamer pulse goes.

These were the HOLY GRAILS of game announcements regardless of your interests in any individual game.

Any Gaffer knows that.

With all the excitement of the announcements I almost missed that a 20 anniversary PS4 controller is coming out. Looks great!

"We know you want this, we know you'll pay for this...

But we have NO FAITH in this...so...

You pay for it!!!!"

**excited insane cheering** **fanboy squeals**

Saving GT7 for Gamescom?
They aren't doing a conference at Gamescom, and I can't see them announcing a title like GT outside of a proper conference.

Their Paris show? Perhaps. It makes more sense to show it on European soil, than E3.

It was always super niche. I can only think of one example ever that I have replayed one of my old disc based games on a new system.

I was super glad for the X360 compatiblity thing because I thought it was as easy as puttin an X360 disc into my Xbone and then I could download the game digitally. Any title. Any time.

When I understood how it actually was, I was first angry and the mega dissapointed.

No Man's Sky, definitely not. Their relationship is solid that even if Sony told Hello Games to make it for Xbone, they will just say no lol.

Shenmue doesn't have Xbone listed in their Kickstarter rewards, so I doubt it.

FF7 Remake is a possibility, but I'm pretty sure Sony has stake in the original IP. Also, even thought FF15 and KH3 are slated for Xbone, all their recent announcements were absent of Xbone.
