Metroid Prime Federation Force Announced (Next Level, 3DS, 4 Player, Mission Based)

I thought it looked like a lot of fun actually after catching a few minutes of it on the Treehouse. I'll have to keep my eye on it.

Would people still be as upset with this if it didn't have the Metroid Prime moniker (simply titled Federation Force), yet still took place in the Metroid universe?

Yes. The only way I wouldn't be upset is if they scrubbed everything related to Metroid from the game.

The hate is real

How would people feel if they went the Four Swords route and the characters were different colored Samus?

Would that be less insulting?

Worse.

Again, it'd be like having a Captain Falcon brawler spin-off after so many years of not having F-Zero. People want what made the series memorable, not a half-assed spinoff.

The game looks fun. The whole concept is really not bad at all. But, we're waiting for a Metroid game for many years. A proper one. And we're getting this. A game that no matter how fun it may be, looks horrible. A game that essentially is a co-op missions mode. Not a full game. Of course it's disappointing, even after the initial shock. Plus, the Blastball part seems awful and boring.

They could have made this it's own IP and I would've been much happier even if it meant no metroid acknowledgement,
This.

I really liked what I saw, especially if its online. It looks really good, and I'll likely get it day one.

But calling it Metroid, which is a series about isolation, is total disrespect to the Metroid franchise. Not even Other M was that bad. You don't even play as Samus in this. E3 08 and 12 were bad and boring, but never a total lack of what they did show being totally dissed. 2D mario in 12? Yeah its 2D Mario. Maybe another bland one but cool for those that wanted it. Metroid now? It ain't Metroid. So far both Other M and now this are basically not Metroid games. Its astounding that that they have two games in a row that completely go against what Metroid is about.

Its being made by NLG so I am sure I'll enjoy it alot. But for the love of all that is good don't name it fucking Metroid. (I know its too late but damn.)

Samus and her story are about isolation

Metroid can be more than just samus and her story. I think the galactic federation are a fine choice to expand upon, my only holdup is the player model.

give it a chance and look at the treahouse it looks quite good

It still looks like a worse version of Destiny or Warframe to me. I seriously don't know what you guys are seeing. Trapping monsters seems kinda neat but that's not nearly enough to justify its existence.

Really wish it had more in-depth character building like Monster Hunter. I'm really not that excited to have "on-the-fly" customization. That makes it feel less engrossing to me.

I can see this being fun; but it's looking rough right now.

EDIT: Here's hoping they can really pump it up. I'm fine with a softer look for the art, but there's plenty of room for improvement. The UI needs to be touched up a lot, too.

I don't even get what this shit has to with Metroid in ANY capacity at all gameplay-wise. Looks utterly baffling for a Metroid game. Is there any insight into why Nintendo seems to refuse an actual new Metroid game?

There are some Metroid enemies and uhhh nothing else.

People's reaction when Other M came out was they wanted a chibified hunters spin-off?

Well, I for one always thought Metroid might enjoy a little more success if it had a bit more light-heartedness to it...without abandoning its sense of isolation, of course.

Like a slightly cuter style, maybe more subtle visual gags, etc.

Don't worry guys, it's a Prime game so it doesn't impact the sanctity of Metroid's oh so precious lore.
The trailer specifically says that it takes place in the "Metroid Prime universe," just in case there was any doubt left that Nintendo considers the continuities to be separate now for some reason.

Meh, it looks okay to me. The graphics need improving.

I think it would have been better received if it wasn't the only new Metroid for five/six years though.

it'd be more like playing as the guys who build the tracks in a simulator game and slapping F-Zero on it

Because it's a spinoff. This is like the Mario-themed Puzzle and Dragons or Link's Crossbow Training or whatever.

I forgot Prime series is non canon now so the title more hilarious to think about.

It's not non-canon. I'm not defending what Sakamoto did with Other M but people always misinterpret what he said about Prime - he said they were a sidestory that doesn't impact what he sees to be the core storyline of the Metroid universe much, not that they didn't happen.

I was under the impression that prime was a different universe.

Oh god, I almost shed tears because of sadness after watching the trailer of this game. Really, I feel like all I have left is to play the same great Metroid games over and over (which I already do).

Fuck.

Son, you might want to use an example that doesn't sound so FUCKING AWESOME.

Thanks to smash, people would welcome this hypothetical game into their hearts.

Oh wow, I had no idea it was nearly a decade since the last good Mario game when Treasure Tracker came out. Wait a second...

It's a spinoff. It's nice that Metroid Prime's world is getting expanded. They will still make real Metroid games.

The suffering continues. They have no idea what to do with Metroid, just throwing random ideas at the wall to see what sticks at this point.

Nintendo should just pay some talented Indie developer like the Shovel Knight or Guacamelee guys in peanuts to make a 2D Metroid. It'd be a bare minimum effort on their part and would probably end up awesome.
They already have all the talent they need, including Next Level Games. It's not the issue.

Also, hated Guacamelee, so...

Wait, people like Other M now?
Give it time and a new game to hate.

Wow, can't believe the negative response to this.

This was actually my second favorite game of the digital event. I thought it looked super fun and I can't wait to see if it lives up to the Metroid Prime name.

I mean, are Animal Crossing fans really getting fucked?

They got a pretty substantial 3DS installment just a couple years back, they're getting a cool little spin-off, another that's kind of lame admittedly but seems like it's just meant to expand the franchise a bit, and had a lot of neat playable content in Smash and Kart.
