Metroid Prime Federation Force Announced (Next Level, 3DS, 4 Player, Mission Based)

Nintendo can be weirdly but devastatingly out of touch sometimes. I have no idea what kind of reaction Nintendo would have expected from this game, with the IP attached to it and the place it's being announced. Like, mind-numbingly tone deaf.

Agreed... looks like a blast but obviously intended as a spinoff of the main series. Other than the HUD the use of Metroid seems very loose for this title.

Looks more like a Halo [theme/design] x Fantasy Life [art style] x Monster Hunter [4p] mission driven game. Won't outright dismiss it though. Just not the Metroid game I was hoping for.

It does look fun but the Metroid name is unneeded. The game release date is 2016 so the graphics could be upgraded.

Yeah, the reaction to this game wouldn't be even a quarter as bad had it not been five years since the last Metroid was released and said Metroid wasn't as... divisive... as Other M.

Again, I think they probably had some idea. I just don't think they care. Their delusion lies in thinking the audience for this will be large enough for it not to matter.

I don't get why people wouldn't be excited to playing a COOP game in the Metroid universe.

I could get the disappointment over it being only for the 3DS but it's still odd since most people own a 3DS over a Wii U.

Mario and luigi looks fun but didn't the 3ds get sticker star and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team already?

A grander Wii U version would have been great.

Are you blaming the Metroid fanbase for, after 5 years of absence, feeling disappointed with the return of their favourite series in the form of a low budget spin off of an already shitty spin off? Really?

Metroid <- Metroid Prime -> Metroid Prime Hunters, are all three very different types of games in the Metroid universe. The existence of one, does not cancel or replace the other. This game looked fun to me, and a nice break from the Mario, Mario, and more Mario sequence on the Direct. (PS, Mario Maker looks fun).

Metroid Prime Hunters 2 would be ages better than this

Metroid Prime Hunters was actually a good Multiplayer game
aside from the hella amount of action replay users online

OK this game does not look interesting to me.

Metroid Prime games are some of the best singleplayer games there are, if I want to play multiplayer shooters, I will play something else.

It was same when VUGames/Irrational Games decided to make a singleplayer Tribes game (Tribes: Vengeance). Tribes was a great multiplayer shooter with no singleplayer mode, and people did not want a singleplayer Tribes game. I doubt Metroid fans wanted multiplayer Metroid (with an expense of singleplayer game), even if it was running on Wii U.

The weirdest thing about this announcement is that if they didn't attach the Metroid name to it I think it would have been received pretty well. People seemed interested in it when it was teased on Sunday.

I really can't belive they thought it was a good idea to stick the Metroid name on it. It's baffling.

It's weird. The ideas are good, the visuals are not bad per se.. But the style is so offputting when you think of something Metroid you would never ever land on something like this.

It also probably didn't help to say something along the lines: 'A new Metroid is coming, but meanwhile: enjoy this Spin Off' or something along those lines.

I wasn't following the run-up to this, so I'm not sure I fully understand the backlash, but that looks incredibly rough for a new 2016 game on any platform. What's with the production quality there, or lack thereof?

This is frustratingly benign.

It clearly "cancels" it for now because this is all we're getting. And MPH is unequivocably worse than MP or mainline Metroids.

Also, what the fuck does Mario have to do with it? It's not another game announced in the consistently high quality yet common Mario titles, so whoopee?!

Metroid Prime was a very clear evolution of the 2D Metroids and we also recieved a 2D Metroid on the same day. Metroid Prime Hunters was after 2 and we didn't doubt that there would be a Metroid Prime 3.

It's a neat looking portable title, are my thoughts. It isn't replacing a console grand adventure or anything. No harm done with this release.

Game looks like shit.

Game looks boring

And is the biggest fuck you yet to Metroid fans.

Nintendo truly delivered this E3.

It's replacing a proper metrioid game on a portable. Instead of another Metroid Fusion on Zero Mission, we are getting this.

That's the point. Nintendo's remaining lineup consists of games based on already existing assets. These games are filler as their main teams gear up for NX.

Should've been a new IP. It would've been moderately hype in that place.
It really doesn't need the Metroid IP... The Metroid IP isn't even popular enough to warrant being used to help it sell. Sigh. There's probably no backstory, there's no Samus ... It's such a weird decision.

So can people tell me why they think it looks so bad other than it not being typical Metroid?

I don't think it looks bad pers se, just not interesting in anyway. Combat is boring lock on with simple enemies in small environments. The art style looks like some random phone game and technically it looks a DS game with better textures. At the very least it looks cleaner than something like MH4 but that's pretty much all it has on MH.

This looks like the kind of game EA would have in a mobile game line up in their press package.

Yeah, its not like they are heralding this as the next huge Metroid adventure or anything. Honestly, more exposure for the franchise can't hurt at all.

Metroid fans, welcome to the Zelda cycle.

"Zelda 2 isn't like Zelda 1? It'll never work!"
"Link's Awakening is a black & white Gameboy game? It'll never work!"
"Ocarina of Time is jumping to 3D? But Zelda is a top-down perspective game! Won't work!"
"Majora's Mask has a time limit? That won't work!"
"Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons have a convoluted password system? That's so stupid."
"Wind Waker's art style is for babies! Death of the series!"
"Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks only use the stylus? That'll never work!"
"Multiplayer Zelda? Four Swords will be a disaster!"
"Twilight Princess/Skyward Sword use motion controls? That'll never work!"
"A Link Between Worlds is just retreading the old game and is non-linear? Bad decision!"
"Hyrule Warriors? What's this Dynasty Warriors knock-off. Horrible!"

Is this the Metroid game I wanted? No.
... But I'm going to give it a try and I may end up LOVING it.

I was excited when my brother told me a new metroid was announced. I jumped on, watched the trailer and was greeted with this atrocity. I would have rather had nothing than this.
