Metroid Prime Federation Force Announced (Next Level, 3DS, 4 Player, Mission Based)

People keep ignoring the context. Metroid Prime, Metroid Fusion, Metroid Prime Pinball, Metroid Zero Mission, Metroid Prime 2, Metroid Prime Hunters and Metroid Prime 3 were all out within years of each other. Fusion and Prime came out pretty close to each other, within days (?) if I'm remembering correctly (and they could interact - remember getting the Fusion armor in Metroid Prime and being able to play through the game while wearing it?).

I wouldn't even care about this game enough to be angry about it if new, yet more conventional Metroid games were revealed, just like I didn't care much about Hunters or Pinball. Pinball was a nice time when I did play it though.

It was nearly impossible to be too mad about Metroid during that time. There was literally something for everyone.

"Zelda 2 isn't like Zelda 1? It'll never work!"
"Link's Awakening is a black & white Gameboy game? It'll never work!"
"Ocarina of Time is jumping to 3D? But Zelda is a top-down perspective game! Won't work!"
"Majora's Mask has a time limit? That won't work!"
"Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons have a convoluted password system? That's so stupid."
"A Link Between Worlds is just retreading the old game and is non-linear? Bad decision!"

Citation Needed.

I don't get why people wouldn't be excited to playing a COOP game in the Metroid universe.

I could get the disappointment over it being only for the 3DS but it's still odd since most people own a 3DS over a Wii U.

I dunno get the hate either. I'm gonna enjoy the hell out of it. Can't wait to see more

because it lets me know that nintendo actually cares about it in some way

Showing that they're willing to use the brand to sell something radically different to what the fan demand is doesn't tell me they care about Metroid any more than Metroid Blast or Samus Amiibos do. It just makes me feel like the chances of the Metroid I want being currently developed are even slimmer than they were before. But hey, can't talk for everyone

Metroid fans, welcome to the Zelda cycle.

Is this the Metroid game I wanted? No.

You made up 75% of these.

lmao what a reach. The saddest part is that you don't even get paid to do this kind of PR.

Nintendo just isn't for me anymore, they don't seem to care about fans and this game is a god damn kick to the balls for us metroid fans, could be fun, but really? after 5 years and us patiently waiting this is what you show us? This company clearly isn't trying to appeal to me anymore and Im done waiting.

Come on, were you even around for half of those games being announced? The response to ALBW was the exact opposite of that from most people.

Fusion and Prime came out pretty close to each other, within days

You fail as a metroid fan.

On the holy day of November 17th, 2002, we were blessed with the double-header known as Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion. After what was a very, very long hiatus of no new Metroid games since 1994's Super Metroid, we were granted the anticipated sequel to Super AND a brand new experience for the series, which while it left fans a little skeptical, ended up delivering on all fronts and put then-newly formed developer Retro Studios on the map. They would go on to release Metroid Prime 2: Echoes in 2004 and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption in 2007, with Nintendo releasing Metroid: Zero Mission in early 2004, it being one of the best remakes of all time, taking an NES game that aged very badly turning it into a modern masterpiece.

2002-2007 was the best half decade ever conceived for Metroid fans, even with weak points like... well, the entire DS output. Then 2010 came and Metroid: Other M was released... to very mixed response, and somehow killed the franchise. Then, after a 5 year hiatus we get... a spiritual successor to Metroid Prime: Hunters, which in and of itself was a spiritual successor to the multiplayer component of Prime 2. When considering the history of the series, surely people can understand why we, the true fans of Metroid, are very disappointed in Nintendo-sama.

People were actually tentatively interested in the Dynasty Warriors spin off and I think part of the reason is that it was on the Wii U.

If Nintendo offered split screen Federation Force on the Wii U with the potential depth of Super Mario 3D World you guys wouldn't be complaining as much is what I'm suspecting.

You mean you weren't on GAF in 1987 to participate in that heated 40 page Zelda II announcement thread?

That was about the same time they revealed that the sequel to Bubble Bobble was some strange shit with rainbows? Good times, there were loads of bans for the Sega Master System fans for port begging. They got a port anyway, if I remember in the end.

Hey everybody, there's a new Metroid title! It's a Samus-less co-op shooter/soccer game! Hey where are you all going? And why are you crying?

Dissapointed about no Wii U Metroid Prime announcement but if this is any similar to the Nintendo Land Metroid game then it will be loads of fun, thats for sure.

thanks! and no YOU fail! im cursed with this avatar for a year but you have a choice! wheres samus? :P

It's the twist of the knife with the name that makes this so upsetting. Honestly the game seems totally competent for what it is, but fuck, calling it Metroid and not even hinting that Metroid will be back in a more substantial form in the future just makes this super fucking disappointing. The Treehouse stream makes me just go "yeah that's a thing. Okay. I'll try it once maybe."

And for a lot of people the stylus control for PH/ST was just awful.

It's not a matter of opinion. It's a fact that the controls of both The Legend Of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and The Legend Of Zelda: Spirit Tracks are among the least intuitive control schemes in the entire series. Even Skyward Sword's control scheme received SOME positive response amongst the negative reception, but there was little to no positive reception for the DS control schemes.

You control Toon Link with the stylus... not even D-Pad movement. People complained about this with Phantom Hourglass, and they still made a sequel that used the same exact control scheme. Thankfully, the Zelda developers wised up for The Legend Of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, which is already going down as one of the best handheld Zelda games of all time. Thank God.

Similarly, the control scheme of Metroid Prime: Hunters was also terrible, though maybe slightly more intuitive than the DS Zelda control scheme... forgive, but it has been ages since I played that atrocity. Meanwhile, I recently completed a playthrough of Phantom Hourglass and am STILL working on a playthrough of Spirit Tracks, with my first playthrough of it somehow taking half a decade to finish, and my current one is almost a year and a half. Meanwhile I managed to beat more enjoyable Zelda games like The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask and The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker in roughly a week a piece.

I don't agree with this at all and Kid Icarus is many, many years old at this point.

You're right to be critical of how dated the graphics look because of how old Kid Icarus is but the games are definitely comparable techwise. It's the art direction which sucks especially when compared to previous art work in the Prime series.

I haven't followed this discussion or anything, but I thought the controls and style of those games were fantastic.

No, not really. I mean obviously people want a traditional Metroid or Metroid Prime, but this still looks cool and fun.

Then why call it Metroid when it has absolutely nothing in common with the series outside some universe ties and the fact it plays like that one side-series of Metroid.

I mean arguably brand name recognition is why we haven't got 3 more standard Metroids since Fusion so they can't even argue that.

3 years is considered "many, many" now? Please forgive my assumption, but surely you must be a child, to think that? Or possible someone who is overly obsessed with tech?

I assure you, you're in a very small minority. Also, it's mostly bad compared to other Zelda control schemes. I used to think Skyward Sword was the worst, but I managed to get used to it after a while. I've beaten the DS games a couple times, and I STILL cannot consider it decent, let alone "fantastic".

People in this thread itself says Metroid sells poorly, so why use the name?

I am boycotting the new Metroid game.

I can't believe I am typing this.

Let me try it again and see if it feels nature.

I am boycotting the new Metroid game.

Nope, still feels terrible.
